Andor´s PERFECT Scene...But You Missed It

Ойын-сауық

Star Wars Andor is show filled with fantastic scenes. However, the best scene in the entire series is not, in my humble opinion, any of the most popular answers. Instead it happens in the closing minutes of the second to last episode...

Hey jazz, you know whats funny and ironic. Is that the one show that everyone sorta wasn’t looking for or hyped about turned out to be the good one. But the show that people were excited and hyped about. (Kenobi, mandalorian, boba fett acolyte) turned out to be bad. Well maybe first two seasons of mando was good but third one was lackluster. 🤷

This show is a masterpiece amongst a bunch of cinematic trash that Disney is hell bent on producing. This fact makes Andor all the more precious to me because in my opinion it’s the last true slice of the essence that George Lucas created. The concept, the directing, the message.❤

@@reconpuffen7715There wasn't a big marketing campaign behind Andor, because Disney anticipated the Kenobi series to be a bigger hit, which was released just a few months before Andor. Therefore they focused their resources on Kenobi. The other part why Andor didn't generate big numbers was that some people simply didn't have the patience to watch it. They might have expected something lighter, something that doesn't require attention.

I would say the animated Star Wars series are mostly as good, not the same, but really well thought through and developed. I've seen people criticise the show for how much Cassian often melts into the background and lets other characters take center stage, but that's the point!! The whole point of the first season is how the people around him spur him towards a decision we always knew was coming, a decision he even knows himself that he's running from. The people he meets and knows inspire him, and we see him internalise these experiences until he makes the final decision: to fight back. Also, on a meta level, you don't want a resistance member who is too obvious. You want someone who can disappear in a crowd. Great video, every time I watch a video essay on this show I discover a dimension of it that makes me love it even more

This scene is such a beautiful callback/foreshadowing to the end of Rogue One. On a beach, facing the orange-red sky at the end of the world after doing everything he can to free others. Cassian says on the phone to tell Marva that she would be proud of him, and he tells Jyn at the end that her father would be proud of her. In the words of George Lucas, "It's like poetry, it rhymes."

One thing missing from the Original Trilogy was a detailed exploration of what life was like in the Empire. You had the death of Luke's foster parents, the destruction of Alderaan, Vader's seizure of Cloud City and multiple instances of captured Rebels being mistreated or even killed. But it wasn't until Rogue One, Solo and Andor that you saw the misery of the civilian population.

Andor shows that if Disney wanted to, they could actually make high quality tv shows that have great characters, well written dialogue and many memorable moments. People reacted positively to Andor for a reason and it blows my mind that they continue to ignore that for shows like Ahsoka, Obi Wan and now Acolyte. I didn’t know Andor would be the Star Wars show I’ve always wanted but it became just that. It felt like a breath of fresh air and it was nice to see a Star Wars show being handled with care and attention to detail.

The reason we don't get more Andor-style show is more then one ... first of all, you need a "Tony Gilroy", a "Denis Villeneuve" or another genious like that to make something that really surpasses the lots of mediocrity that standard writers and directors produce. The other reason ... people still watch the other show. Even I did. Ok, I watched Andor alone more often then all other shows combined, but still ... they feel its "good enough" for people to keep subscribing. Still, I have the hope that in case Andor season 2 becomes the initial success this show deserves, we could really get more of that.

Andor was an outrageous exception I'm still perplexed how this show got 2 x 12 1 hour episodes, at a cost of $250 million - with exceptional writing, acting, directing - all filmed on location One thing's for sure - the "suits" at Disney weren't involved - and they're ALWAYS involved - whenever there's money to be won or lost, they are there ... money is the shit to their fly - these greedy leeches can't resist it. So how did this utter masterpiece happen? I believe it's like Cassian says "you just walk in like you belong - and take their money" In other words - the truest act of rebellion was the creation of this beautiful television show! They stole $250 million right from under Disney's nose, and made ... this. An utter masterpiece - surely one of the greatest ever TV shows..

Andor meandors their event build ups into three long episodes with two episodes of soap opera-ish talking and the third episode for the big spectacle to occur. I think in that moment he doesn’t realize he’s Alone. I think the exact opposite. All his life he was searching for his past. For the culture, the family, the sister taken from him, not really identifying with the community that raised him. I think the whole show is Cassian thinking of himself as alone, despite the fact that Marva took him in, that all of Ferrix stood by him and helped him escape, even though he wasn’t the most reliable friend to anyone. In that scene he doesn’t just find out his mother is dead, he finds out Ferrix is being occupied and the people who always cared about him tortured. And that he is partly responsible for what they are enduring. In that moment of losing his mother Cassian realizes he has never been alone, and that he has always had a family he never really acknowledged. A community that stood by him thru good and bad times. You can see the change in him as he says goodbye to a man he barely knows, but will forever feel a bond with, because he finally understands what it is to have a shared worldview, shared challenges, and shared interests. He resolves to return to Ferrix, not for his mother’s funeral, but to save those who are his greater family. He’s seen what a small group can accomplish to thwart oppression. He’s seen what a prison full of comrades can accomplish if they act as one. Andor in this moment realizes he is not an island, he is a part of the main. That the people of Ferrix are His people. And that he has a responsibility to fight their oppressors, because he has the ability to fight.

The whole show is a masterpiece of ironic layers and the entire Maarva relationship is indeed at the heart. We hear her influence over Cassian even when she is not on the screen (they actually only have three face-to-face scenes together in the present day). We hear her words relayed by B2EMO in episode 1 and via her own hologram in episode 12, but the crucial scene that connects to this one is where Brasso passes on her message to Cassian that posthumously states her love, faith in him and forgiveness… and, importantly, her pride. That being what he has really wanted all along. The irony of his involvement in Aldhani inspiring her is exquisitely painful… that little smile that he quickly tries to hide as he does not want to give her a reason to stay - ouch. He thought he knew what he wanted there, but she actually knew him better than he knew himself. She knew the man he would eventually become and had faith, in the end, that he would indeed become “ an unstoppable force for good”. All that said, the scene on the beach is gut-wrenchingly sad. The Empire stole so much from Cassian, including the opportunity to be with her at the end, or even to be able to tell her - as he tries to - that she can be proud of him at last. Luna’s acting of the feeling of numb, shocked, uncomprehending. grief is superb. Thank goodness Cassian gets the positive message in the next episode - and can start to properly mourn and reflect on his relationship with his incredible mother.

Andor is simply a brilliantly written, acted and executed story that happens to be set in the STAR WARS UNIVERSE. The themes are quite universal and the entirety of this show could work even if set in a different universe. I think that’s what’s missing from the other productions. They’re so busy trying to make it “Star Wars” (ie the superficial elements) they forget to just make it good (basic stuff like solid writing, deep characters with logical motivations , etc). When the first season of the Mandalorian dropped it was such an exciting/hopeful time! Unfortunately now most of the productions seem “cookie cutter” and bland.

  • @mitchyoung4173
    @mitchyoung417310 күн бұрын

Andor is a piece of art and anyone who says otherwise is willfully shooting themselves in the foot. SW isn't a genre, it’s a universe and many different genres, themes, characters, and stories have yet to be discovered in that universe. If someone wants the 'feel' of the old movies there is good news, the old movies still exist, so literally go watch them again. As horrendous as some of the Last Jedi was I have grown to appreciate that Rian was also trying to make something new, his execution in some of that 'newness' was very questionable but the stuff that worked really worked. This misguided unconscious consensus of SW fans that we need to ‘recapture’ those feelings from the first films has led to an over saturation of bad SW trying to live up to something it shouldn’t even need to. Every SW project doesn’t need the same themes, characters, and feeling as the OG trilogy, that'd get repetitive and very boring. Most new projects have virtually become parodies of the source material where nothing is left but references cameos, and generic mic-drop lines that fit in any situation. I love Andor not just because it is full of heart, nuance, and complex storytelling in a thematically dark setting but also because of what it represents: innovation of SW and a new hope that future SW projects don't have to be self referential, sloppily written, poorly executed, mass produced projects rather than pieces of art that stand on their own merit. Disneys and the fans problem has been thinking that SW is a genre and everything must fit into very confined rules. If someone thinks Andor is too boring they need to consider spending less time feeding their dopamine receptors with stuff like Tik Tok and take the time to pay attention to what’s happening between action sequences. They’ll realize that that there is a lot of nuance and character work happening, it is a masterclass of writing and direction. If someone thinks Andor doesn't feel like SW they need to reframe how they understand the IP, it is not a genre of itself. The themes, characters, settings, sounds, textures, virtually everything is straight out of the Lucas doctrine and what story he was trying to tell. If someone thinks Andor stands shoulder to shoulder on equal footing as Obi Wan, Ahsoka, or Boba Fett they need to try and summarize one of those shows and try to summarize Andor, the difficulty to do so for Andor succinctly is indicative of the complex level of detail and care. Andor is lightyears ahead of those shows in virtually every cinema or storytelling criteria. Anyone who loves Andor should be promoting it and recommending it to everyone they know. Systems either change or die and there is only one way out of this SW slump of bad media.

Even though the sequel trilogy was a poor effort, the rest of the material produced at Disney has been decent to good. If you look at the prequels they were far from perfect even though storywise they are George Lucas' vision. Andor however, has elevated Star Wars to a new level of dramatic maturity. It was written for adults and although Lucas intended Star Wars to be for a primarily younger audience, this kind of drama has a place in the future of Star Wars.

@@NoCluYT I don't mean the accent. If it's a real voice, it must be really heavily edited. The pacing sounds completely unnatural, like it has been cut and assembled back together.

JFC Andor is overrated. This is an OK scene if not a bit awkward and forced. They made mediocre WWII movie and everyone thinks "depressing" = "masterful cinema."

couldn´t disagree more. And it's not depressing. And what do you want? It's the rebellion brewing. The Jedi are gone. And the Galaxy is ruled by a Sith Lord (though nobody knows)

It’s not a masterpiece because it is depressing. It is a masterpiece because we understand that it depressing. The writing guided us to this moment so we can appreciate it. We understand the characters and what this moment means for them.

@@rogeriopenna9014 I'm happy that there was an Andor and it was fine. But I don't think it was the "pinnacle of Star Wars" and would hate it if it all became like Andor. I guess I want Season 2 of the Mandalorian and more Rebels. There's Star Wars for everybody.

@@sinistar99 nobody said it must all be like Andor. But it just seems everything with Jedi is boring nowadays, maybe it's just the bad writing... I think Jedi and lightsabers are something best served in special moments, like in the OT. When you have it ALL THE TIME, like in the prequels, sequels, etc, it starts losing fun. It looks more like a Marvel super heroes movie than anything.

Andor was far more expensive than any other star wars show. It's one of the most expensive shows ever made. Wtf so you mean cheap? What EXACTLY? It looks better than any Disney plus show. It looks as good if not better than the Star wars MOVIES themselves.

wrong. "Cheaply produced" ... $250 million is what it cost "Space Miami" (Niamos) was filmed 3 miles North of Blackpool - on the Northwest coast of England ... Cleveleys town council charged the producers £200 million pounds to film there, and include their iconic seafront futuristic landmarks - featured in the show It was worth every penny! The rest of the budget was divided up between the actors and musicians Stellan Skaarsgard got £100 - as he, effectively, did TWO characters (£50 x 2) Andy Serkis got £40 which some actors on £30 were extremely annoyed about.
