    How do you guys feel about landing deep in the court after your serve? I know that if I hit a kicker I often land with my left foot ON the baseline... and against opponents of equal level I think that if I would land just 30 cm more in front of the baseline, it would often change an half-volley to a volley. But I see you landing in about the same spot as I do... but still move very effectively to the net.

    Tip #3 is awesome: Split step when you are rushing forward & opponent about to make contact. It is so easy to miss this step due to the rush to net. I miss lot of Volleys due to this missing piece. Any suggestions on how to make it a muscle memory ?

    looks like in the first demo the server did not split step in the correct position relative to the type of serve (i.e. into the body of the returner). The server should have split step further to the left IMHO

    These are fantastic tips which I always ATTEMPT. Lol. Problem is at only 5'8" and a slipped disc in my back I only have a kick and slice serve. With these short legs I have to scramble to get my split step done nearer the service line as opposed to too deep. Unfortunately when my serve doesn't land as intended... plan kinda goes Kaput! Lol. All in all I love your videos. Thank you

    You should split in no mans land, usually a brief stutter step of sorts and then move forward, you dont need to get all the way to the front that is just impossible especially if you are playing a good opponent or if you are serving well (the faster u serve the faster the ball has a chance to come back)

    So when you make contact with your FIRST volley you should be on the service line?

  • @Playyourcourt

    @Playyourcourt

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not necessarily, Try to hit your split step just as your oponent is making contact and that should have you slightly behind the servce line or even in front depending on the speed of play. Thanks for watching!

    What if the other player lobs the ball over your head?

  • @anhvu3780
    @anhvu3780 Жыл бұрын

    You made it look easy but it is really not. First you have to make a good serve. Second, you have to "read" the return. this is hard, not just b/c judging the return direction (left, right) but also the depth and spin. Without this, you can't even make the first volley. Then, you have to be able to volley deep. You can practice deep volley at the wall, ball machine, or at warm-ups. Even when you made a great first volley (solid hit and deep), your opponent can still get there and they most likely lob. I am short so I end up running back most of the time = out of gas in about 3, 4 games. Some of my best serve-n-volley friends use underspin on serves and volleys, accurate overhead, and a lot of running.
