Watched Joel's video a couple of weeks ago, and started shooting without aiming. It has helped me significantly. Still trying to "not worry" about the aiming process, but it is tough to change bad habits.

I found something that demonstrates this principle: Get out your range finder and range something small enough and far enough that it is difficult to get a reading without a rest of some sort. Range it 5 times by "punching" when you're on it. Then repeat the process except this time focus on the "slow" process of pushing the button while allowing the dot to float.

"If an in archer shoots just for fun, has all his skills. If he shoots for score his hands tremble, and his breath is uneasy. If he shoots for a golden prize, he becomes mad and blind. His skill was not lessened, but the vision of the target changed him" (Old Chinese Poem)

Good stuff! Aiming is bad, just have to let that pin float. I’d add that exercise to increase bow arm stability will aid accuracy. As a hunter, I practice most of the year shooting surprise releases, but in the month or so before bow season I add deliberate releases into my practice. Accuracy can be good even with deliberate releases, as long as I don’t focus on aiming.

So why practise one thing most of the year then do something else when it matters most....ego is at the base of that sort of decision making. Bad idea :) Do you think Bodie changes to a 'deliberate released' when the pressure is on??? :)

Kind of agree. When you’re not pin point aiming for the bullseye, and just kind of going with the reflex, I always have more hits center mass. Works for me at least.

I have two questions and two comments. 1. Does he suggest changing anything when the wind is gusting 20+mph? 2. How did they decide, (maybe trial and error...) what stabilizer weight to use to enabled Bodies bow to get back to the "X"? 1. If I just "watch it to keep it" my float seems to enlarge... 2. I missed a big 4x4 mule deer last year in a lot of wind because I was determined to continue executing "no matter what", (should have waited for a lull, since he was bedded).

I could be so wrong but I feel like having a heavier setup would be best for hunting in case it gets windy. I feel like there are certain arrows that handle wind as well. Probably. Good idea to run that all season if it’s available

Open loop means you've moved from a deliberate action you're thinking about to an action that your body does automatically without you thinking about each individual movement. Think of learning to sign your name ( you think of each stroke) - this is closed loop, versus signing your name now; you don't have to think about it; open loop.

@@rhondamurphy9565 False. You've pretty much described the opposite of what open loop is. Open loop is a very deliberate action with the ability to stop that action at any time.........not automatic.

It’s a bizarre psychological phenomenon, but the subconscious has to control the final alignment, otherwise the stress of only shooting when the sight picture is perfect will wreck things
