The agricultural lands of Punjab should be declared the public property of Punjab and allotted to the genuine Punjabi poor who can cultivate but cannot sell the allotted land.The farmer then should be charge with direct agricultural tax from the income generated by agriculture produced by them. This way govenment of Panjab will get good amounth which big land lord does not give so the panjab economy will go high which is very low in Pakistan now.

But, parties under feudal and big land grabbers never ever allow to move such action which could resize them for goodness of social fabric, it needs that any party which could spread awareness about this subject and gradually and smoothly with the majority support of common man majority to come in power to form govt and, them do amendment in the law for reversing the possession of land under govt control and, then given to lease for 5/10 years which could be very income base to national treasure. In this way society's fuedal culture also will travel towards rule of law in the society and actual democracy for protecting rights of the common man majority will come in our country. Political parties should be bound to issue tickets for represention according to social and economic layers of the society so that all levels of Pakistani peoples represent their actual layers in assemblies! Otherwise! Rich minority as taking votes from lower and poor majority never ever will work on actual democracy, it will deceptive system to peoples of Pakistan. There are neither social nor economic equal rights to poor majority as are to well to do and resources grabbing minority in the country!

Who have taken big piece of land from company bahadur in lieu of playing traitor role against real heros struggled for independence from British Qabza Gang! Pakistan is in need of such land reforms as were done in India! Which resulted good agriculture production and also decreasing the fuedal dirt from the society which lead to betterment toward working dignity in the society! Due to fuedal culture it has been promoted Chaudhary culture and had-haram and haramkhor segment in the society which become barrier in development and collective progress of the society! Majority in assemblies should be from lower layers of the society! then positive change can be come in the society. Current parties are totally fraud to the common man poo majority who give vote to elite class! Elite class is representing to lower class majority! No actual democracy may come, till representatives from poor and lower class may not come in assemblies for their own representation! At present, political parties are under control elite persons, doses not represent to common man interest and issues! Only deceiving the nation and looter national assets!

Sr, very good information. A large chunks of land were granted under the "thal development authority"(tda) which encompassed about three hundred km large area of thal. Why small landless tenants were ignored? Majority of absent allottees were outsiders and they sold lots and gone away. This is the very reason of being destitute of poeple of thal area.

It goes beyond the British raj,during the mughal period and Afghan periods soilders were given a chank of land and nawabs use to collect revenue from those lands.

Nawabs and subedars weren't the owners of the land. They couldn't sell the land because the king/ruler was the owner of all lands. The kings gave jageers to nawabs to manage the land who gave to farmers and collected taxes on behalf of the king. These lands weren't in the ownership of the nawabs and couldn't pass down to the next generations. If a military commandar, nawab lost kings favor, he could lose the lands. The king could take the jageer away and allocate to another nawab or subedar. From the time of umer to mughals, the lands were the property of the state. After colonisation, British gave lands to their stooges who supported colonial rule and were loyal to their empire.

British east india company (BEIC) has nothing to do with the land distribution in Punjab. BEIC was dissolved around or after the time of war of independence (1857). Land distribution started after that by the British Government representatives in India/Punjab givernment. In the USA, a similar scheme (not based on canals) called "homesteading" was used between 1862 and 1934 where federal government granted 1.6 million homesteads and distributed 270,000,000 acres (420,000 sq mi) of federal land for private ownership. This was a total of 10% of all land in the United States. Homesteading was discontinued in 1976, except in Alaska, where it continued until 1986. There was and is nothing wrong in land distribution as long it is done in a fair" and equitable manner.
