How a SVT-40 works

The Samozaryadnaya Vintovka Tokareva, Obrazets 1940 goda ("Tokarev Self-loading Rifle, Model of 1940", Russian: Самозарядная винтовка Токарева, образец 1940 года) or SVT-40 is a Soviet semi-automatic battle rifle. The SVT-40 saw widespread service during and after World War II. Intended to be the new service rifle of the Soviet Red Army, production was disrupted by the German invasion in 1941 resulting in a change back to the older Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle for the duration of World War II. After the war new rifles were adopted by the Soviet Union, such as the SKS and the AK-47.

I never thought about it, but it's an interesting detail.

I wish the framerate was a little slower on some parts of the video, but it's still fairly easy to follow.

I can't get the bolt fully forwards on mine...It stops around 5mm before it locks. I have to smack the bolt-handle with a rubber hammer to get the bolt completely forwards and in locking postiton, every time I cock the rifle...I have dissasembeled the rifle, and everything looks good. I can't find any reason to why it "acts up" like this.

Why didn't they make it so you could pull back the thing that catches the hammer so it could be automatic or semi firing?

They did, with versions designated "AVT", but it was found to be too difficult to control in full auto to be useful as a machine gun.

Nonsense! what's the point of full auto on a purpose built rifle when nobody is actually ever going to use that option?

I think the pressure of the bullet when fired goes back and cocks the bolt along with the firing pin

This action of gases pushing the rod on top of the barrel is not shown. This rod cycles back and forth each time a bullet is fired. It is the rod that forces the bolt carrier back.

How "an" SVT-40 works. An, not a SVT-40. And this doesn't even show the op rod pushing the bolt back

2:20 impulse is very slight so its seen only on this speed, the short stroke is animated
