    That's because the killer holds all the answers. The killer knows why they did it. The killer is the only one left to give testimony and details. If these videos didn't focus on the killer, they wouldn't be true crime stories, they'd be really depressing biographies.

    I've noticed that as a trend in the last 10 years or so. Older programs tend to focus on the killer - modern ones focus more on the victims. I think they started the trend to draw more viewers in who normally wouldn't watch this sort of stuff.

    I can't help but want to point out a warning: It's best to have a clear plan in place when going out with friends. Go together, stay together. Also, it's just not worth the risk of leaving with a perfect stranger. Unfortunately for Karen, she trusted a wolf in sheep's clothing. I can't even imagine the horror of her last moments of life. It's absolutely heartbreaking to think of this lively and lovely young lady being robbed of her future. My heart goes out to her family and friends. What a horrific tragedy. 💔😥💔

    That was so sad to hear the friends/roomies didn't feel alarmed until the next day... With my friends we start worrying when someone even takes too long in the bathroom (you never know, the person could have fainted or suddenly feel sick or nauseous), and we'd definitely never expect one of us to just randomly leave without telling us. We need to pay a lot more attention to each other, the world is filled with people with terrible intentions.

    @@moomoo991You’re absolutely right. Far too many people still believe that rape is about sex, when it’s actually about asserting power over the victim. Unfortunately, those people are often chosen to be jurors on sexual assault cases.😢 Though to be fair, a jury can only reach its verdict based on the evidence that was actually presented IN COURT; and without access to the full trial transcripts, we can’t possibly know what other evidence the jurors might have heard. (I say this as someone who has attended multiple jury trials, albeit for civil cases.)

    I remember a time when my then bf and I were renting a room from friends and I was working late. It was cold in the winter time and we had these run ins with an old friend people stopped associating with, heavy drug addict, would steal from anyone, his dad was trying to get him to rehab etc. he would harass people for money and if you didn’t give it he would Blast your phone all day til you blocked him and he’d start again. Anyway, this was about a week or so after we stopped hearing anything, this was something I didn’t know at the time since I was working a lot, and only knew about it after the fact. Well I was waiting for the bus to come it was almost 11 pm, and at the bus stop the same guy pulled up and told me to hop in and that my BF ASKED him to come pick me up. Me being super naive believed him and halfway home, when I always text my bf to let him know when the bus comes and when I’m on it heading back home(bc he likes to meet me at the corner and watch me get off the bus to walk me to the house..keeps me safe) he responds immediately with something like Amber, I never even talked to him or told him to come pick you up. I had my pocket knife on me then but it was the scariest I’ve ever had anything happen. He ended up dropping me off at the house and I walked around the corner bc he didn’t know exactly where it was just the general vicinity, but he asked if I knew anyone who could help him out and if I had any cash on me. I gave him $3 which was all I had on me then and went inside shaking. I literally could have been another victim for someone’s own purpose if I wasn’t lucky. Sad

His “victim” mentality and blaming the women he attacked with lies makes me think he may never change or be “rehabilitated.” I hope he is denied parole multiple times. I’m just very sorry that his parole hearings will be part of the family’s lives forever. 😢

    Thank you for covering this story with such grace. I actually suggested this case a few days ago not knowing you were likely already working on it. The story of Karen Buckley is an incredibly tough one as I studied at the same university at the time that her life was tragically cut short. Being a fellow Irish student, this rocked the Irish student commmunity in a way like no other. The whole of Glasgow was left in shock especially as it's a bustling city with a high student population. The asshat who tragically took her life had the audacity to even appeal his sentence. I will never forget the story of a beautiful soul that was taken far too soon. My thoughts are with Karen's family always.

    Why? It would likely have made no difference. That first crime would have been assault, nothing more. Actually, attempted assault. As a 17 year old, he'd have served very little jail time, if any. Absolutely nowhere near 4 years. Not even 1 year. So he would still have been out roaming the streets when this occurred. Also, unless you were in the court, you don't know what evidence was presented. Apparently an entire jury decided there wasn't enough evidence to prove his guilt. Do you really want juries to start convicting based on how they feel rather than actual facts and evidence? I damn sure don't. Too many do that very thing already and that's how we end up with innocent people in prison for years and years.

  • @simonw1313

    @simonw1313

    No doubt they will have reflected on that decision but unless you know what the quality of the evidence at the trial was then it's unfair to blame the jury who can only make decisions based on the evidence before them.

    If anything else that I've learned from watching your videos (btw the tone you set in your storytelling is incredible. Its chilling enough to get the bad points across yet warm and friendly enough for all to hear regardless of age, great job on that, cant emphasize that enough) is that the legal system is always going to fail. For those that have been caught, there are many many more who will never be caught. Just like Lauren from Utah, theres going to be many more of those stories year in and year out sadly. And even worse, at a cost to taxpayer's from the lawsuits that will be filed and yet the very same systematic failures will never cease happening because those responsible for those laspes will never learn much less pay for their mistakes.
