How a single tulip was worth more than a villa │Tulip mania I
Today, you can buy several tulips for a couple of dollars. In 1637, you could buy every house on your street, for a couple of tulips.

Grand Theft Tulip
Your channel is criminally underappreciated.
The drawing of that tulip looks really amazing! I want a shirt or a poster with that flower on it! When is that happening?

Semper Augustus really is such an alluring name. It feels like soft, red fabric and the idea of pomegranates. Not actual pomegranates. Those suck.

£257.290 for a tulip. That really does sound like Bitcon. I'll stick with gold & silver thanks.
My mind goes numb whenever I try to think about “ can buy a house with a few tulips “.
@HistoryScope
5 жыл бұрын
Today we have similar situations: you can buy a house with a few stones, for example. Such as diamonds, whose value is kept high through intensive marketing and limiting supply. Although that being said, diamonds have other uses too... But they are still only stones.
@UpNfamish2

@@HistoryScope Agree.But Tulips are perishable while Diamonds like paper money can be agreed on to be keeper of values n using paper moneys has risk of fire damage n so diamonds and gold are better

Those virus tullips are like Shiny or Pokerus infected Pokemon xD.
I was shocked about the tulip price I have 8 tulips in my bowl with milky quartz and Aussie opals as decorations.
I had to stop the video to record this. We are during a pandemic thing, thousands of people died, the markets have fallen and raised. The oil has dropped to negative 10 USD (mean, dropped to zero the price of the oil barrel) but Bitcoin still here baby :P It is not a mania or a "Buble". It is freedom from the string manipulators. Kisses.
I'm glad you moved away from the neckless-armless-bean-people. These are much cuter. They still don't have neck though. That is still so weird. :D But the drawings are getting better and better. Good job!
6:28 wild how much the USD to Euro has changed. this is now only 320,000 USD 5 years later. also fun fact, post brexit hasnt changed the value of the pound by much even though the economy is worse.

Stock market is heading towards Tulip Mania 2.0 :)
ALL THE TULIPS WILL. BE. UNITED. This reminds me of how people use to pay a SHIT TON of money for pineapples, because they were so exotic. I can't imagine anyone middle class EVER spending that much on a flower that'll eventually die though. Fuck that, I'd rather have a gahd damn house.
How would a bubble happen if the contracts forbade further selling the tulip?
@peterobinson2546
5 жыл бұрын
er, probably BECAUSE the contract forbade selling it on. Money, er, finds a way.
@HistoryScope
5 жыл бұрын
Because supply decreased but demand stayed the same, the price went up. And this contract only applied to a single type of bulb, not all. The actual bubble only occurs in the second episode :)

Good for you? Why do you think people care what time it is for you? I mean, I know no one on here cares about me, so you don't have to tell me. Idk why some people think everyone wants to know everything about their lives. You gonna tell us what you had for dinner tonight too? I'm triggered right now. Lmao.

Bitcoin for $100 😂 I wish
but if it is so expensive, no one would buy it and therefore there is no profit right?
I subscribed .....love your videos, looking forward to more. BUT I'm wondering how you made 301,000 Euros equal to $483,000 US ......I think you might have made a slight mistake there.....perhaps thinking of Australian or Canadian dollars? We 3 countries have a different value each for our dollars.. But on the date you put out this video, the Euro dollar was worth about US $ 1.16...just nit-picking, I know... but 301,000 Euros today is worth about U.S. $350,500, NOT U.S. $483,400 ........but, I love your videos, just watch the numerical figures if you're talking values of various currencies.

The amount is based on an annual income of a Dutch carpenter, perhaps a carpenter in America earns more per year.
@HistoryScope
5 жыл бұрын
I looked at the annual wage of a carpenter in the USA and multiplied it by 10. Hence why it uses the carpentry sign.
Tulip? Sounds like Tesla
Wow! A half a million dollar flower!
Why would you measure the price by comparing the carpenter’s salary? You are assuming they are being paid “as fair” as they were 400 years ago, which they are most likely not. You should have taken another method into account to convert the price more realistically. Otherwise an excellent video! (Excuse my broken English)
@HistoryScope
5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the data from that period is extremely scarce. I tried using inflation and converting the currency to modern ones but inflation data wasn't available. Hence, I had to go with the data that was available, such as salaries. Next I had to choose one that fit well with modern professions and the carpenter, while of course not being the same, is quite similar to a modern carpenter. "fair" is an extremely subjective term and wages were most likely set by supply and demand as concepts such as minimum wage weren't implemented in the Dutch Republic at the time. Hence, this was the best solution to compare the cost.

Your comparison between Bitcoin and tulip mania is completely wrong.Number of Total Bitcoins is restricted to 21,000,000 and no one can add a 1 to it but we all know that at that time of mass mania about tulip some 1000 kilometers farther in Iran A Bunch of tulip worth was a normal coin.
