The Vatajankoski power plant in Finland is home to the world's first commercial-scale sand battery. Fully enclosed in a 7m (23ft)-high steel container, the battery consists of 100 tonnes of low-grade builders' sand, two district heating pipes and a fan.

How much is the unit of the sand battery ?
Why use the concentrated len to heat the sand on summer and use the heat warm the community house at winter ?????

Thank you for the informative video. However: This video has been "ruined" by superfluous and distracting background music. It's tiring attending to the narration over the background music, masking the topic of the video and mostly adding nothing to the content. Narration or music is fine but one on top of the other is annoying.
So many fossil fuel bots posting 6th grade level propaganda.
If you don't have access to a lot of sand, you can use rocks of varying sizes and fill in the gaps with sand.
What would be the advantage of this sand battery compared to the already existig salt battery?

its capacity does not degrade. Unlike batteries whose capacity fall down to 80% after 2 years of harge cycles, then the disposal

Depends on the efficiency of the systems. You can massively lower loss of energy leeching. Especially with modern meta materials.

They are not converting it back to electricity. Heat stays as heat that is distributed when needed. I mean, if you graduated highschool you understand what you hear lol.

@@kidShibuya just put your water heater inside a silo full of sand -the water will stay warm for longer. This is not a battery -it is insulation.

@@silvercamp3303 water would be better but sand can act as insulator too. So the core stays hot while outer sand keeps it from loosing too much heat. Also you can't heat water to 500°C so the energy stored is about the same. Sand is also easy to manage, no need for waterproofing. It's just accumulator of energy though, not a battery since it releases heat and not electricity. And if it does with more parts, it would loose efficiency. But it costs around 200 000$ but it would be enough only for one house. Here in Czech republic i think our house would do with 50m3 soft sand, which is about 80 tons of sand, so about 20% smaller than this. Which is lot of money. But if you have scale it up and have reliable energy for it over winter, then it could be ok since sand will probably last for tens of years.
Sand batteries have been around for thousands of years, for sure not as big as the one used here but the Arabs have been using them to keep their homes warm at night, from what I have discovered so I find it odd that this is consider the first sand battery in the world. It's not.
kind of ridiculous, considering that if you want to live in an industrial society, with all the comforts an industrial society gives, then pretending that a 0.0something % of conservation of heat energy, that this is a battery then I cannot trust you. This is BS.

so this is not actually a battery made of sand. It doesn't store electricity.
