    This happened to me once while i was taking the back roads for some nice turns. What had happened was somehow the two wires that connect to the switch had burned through(im suspecting it was touching the exhaust. so what i did was tie the two wires together to bypass the switch, no problems since :)

    Yeah I know this one buddy happened with my clutch switch. I went all around learning about the ignition and charging wiring/circuitry to find that little shit :) also the previous owner jumped the side stand switch wires at the connector back up in the wiring. It'll bite me in the ass one day when I set off with the stand down tho. You're really good at explaining these issues dude :)

    I actually bought an 01 zx6r for $800 and the kid told me it needed a starter relay. I got lucky and found one on ebay for $6 with shipping and bought it before I went to pickup the bike. Got it home changed it out and nothing. I looked at the clutch (an aftermarket with no clutch switch) found the wires and it fired right up.

I am like really frustrated. I have assembled and disassembled my kickstand multiple times to no avail. I will try and look for the little "plunger" contraption tomorrow. haven't been able to ride for 2 days now and its so frustrating. thanks for the video. 2017 Honda CBR300R btw.

    The neutral light switch is a little more complicated than a kickstand switch. On the ones I have serviced, they are like a cylinder with nubs on it, and when you shift gears it rotates around, and the nubs press on the switch to illuminate the neutral light. So, you could either bypass the kickstand switch by just cutting the wires and twisting them together, or break out your manual and find that neutral switch and repair it

    Hey max, ive got what i think is a carburetor question for you. 81Kz 305 I cant get the idle to be steady or the throttle response good on the low end. I set the idle where it needs to be but after giving it some gas the engine idles higher then settles down after a bit. Second i cant get it to be responsive at low rpms. If i give it a little gas and steadily increse it, it runs fine. However when i get on the throttle it sputters and dies. Right now all the cables and air box are off.

    I've had some problems with ignition on my old Yamaha 1983 scooter. Finally I realized what was happening. There's an engine cutoff switch on the kickstand. Now some people say, your switch is not opening properly when you pull the kickstand up. However if that was true then why was it that when I left the charged up bike on the kickstand for a few days, the battery would lose its charge? So my answer to this was that when you deploy the kickstand, the cutoff switch is compressed, but over years of metal wear or wear to the switch button itself, that switch contact becomes less effective and starts to wear out. Then the switch is not properly depressed all the way when the bike is left for a few days leaning on its kickstand !! Then, I think what happens is that the bike is leaking electricity round the cutoff switch, discharging into the bike ground (the rest of the bike). Over a few days, you've run your battery down! Just now after charging my bike I started it up very easily, so I am pretty sure the problem is not that the switch doesn't open properly when I pull the kickstand up. (The switch seems to pop open as it's supposed to.) The real test will be to see if the charge holds for a few days of nonuse, in the new situation in which I've stuck a copper penny on top of that switch button on the kickstand base, then deploying the kickstand. That copper penny just adds pressure to the switch where the kickstand rotates to depress the switch. So now, the switch will remain depressed fully and will completely stop that circuit from leaking electricity to ground. So, if my theory is correct, in a few days, the bike should still be holding the charge on the battery properly. If I'm wrong, then the battery will have lost its charge again after a day or two. If that happens it would suggest I'm way off base and the problem is elsewhere. However I think I'm right. The way it started up this a.m. after having been left with the copper penny on that switch overnight, was perfect. It just immediately started, no problem. I think this is the solution for kickstand cutoff switch problems. Not sure how to do it without buying a new cutoff switch but I'll think of something easy. I can just stop using the kickstand entirely, only use the center stand when leaving it overnight. That's probably the best way to deal with it. I've cussed at it long enough, I sure hope I've got the answer now. I don't want to stick any repair money into this thing. It is a good bike for short errands and I really like it.

  • @JayDillon-mm6yv

    @JayDillon-mm6yv

    3 жыл бұрын

    I should add that when I left it overnight with that copper penny helping to depress the switch button, I was trickle charging the battery. See, the problem is not that the battery is no good, I think - the problem is that after charging, with the bad semi-off position of the kickstand cutoff button when I've got the bike on the kickstand, I'm "trickle-uncharging" the battery all night, unless I put the trickle charger going to maintain some kind of charge anyway. I was doing this before but just barely keeping some charge even with the trickle charger going. Okay then, the normal answer would be to just buy another $60 battery, what's the big deal? But I have already tried changing batteries, recharging batteries and all that stuff. So I believe that a "bad battery" is NOT the problem AT ALL. The problem is the semi-off button left semi-off overnight. (It's not the spark plug, it's not the coil, it's not the starter motor, it's not this, it's not that. IT'S THE SEMI-OFF cutoff switch.) (The switch is not one that clicks on, and clicks off, because that's not what the kickstand is set up to do. It just depresses, and releases smoothly. So it must have a "smooth" gradual increase to fullest contact and then fullest disconnection, which makes the proper function vulnerable to failure due to surface wear of the button and the metal pushing against it.) That's my theory, but not fully proven yet. It might be something to consider as a possibility. I think it might be something to really test out.

    So if you don't have the boots hooked up the air cleaner it won't fire? Is it that the fuel mixture is too lean? Or does it have to do with pressure? It doesn't even try to start even with starter fluid. I wish I knew how to put a Holley on the bike. I thought 4 carbs would be neat. Boy was I wrong. How do you time the bike? What is the firing order? I'm going to replace the valve cover gasket. I will check to see if all valves are working right.

    Woah ok lots of questions. If you want to get into bike diagnostics with me deeper feel free to send a message. With the boots off the bike should still start up on starter fluid, but it probably won't run well on its own gas, because the mixture will be lean and the airstream will be chaotic.

    I just purchased a Vision off of Craigslist and it turns over and is getting fuel but no spark on either side. I checked the wiring harness R/R, battery (voltage and amperage), fuses, plugs, wires, etc and all were fine. The only thing I can think of is that the CDI is dead. However, after buying a "working" replacement off of ebay it still has no spark. Would this be a possible solution? I have the bike in storage and can't get to it to test it at the moment.

    God damn these stinkin things because any idiot knows to put up the kickstand, if you leave it down you deserve what you get. I am so pissed off. I've got this problem with the same kind of kickstand kill switch, and looked at it, and in my opinion, it's not only preventing the Damned motor from starting (actually a great motor) - - but I think it's also draining electrons from my battery. Is this possible? In other words, when that switch malfunctions by being stuck halfway, with the kickstand deployed, in other words, when you have the bike leaning on the kickstand for a while, if the switch button is forced inward but not forced inward enough, the battery drains, then when you go to start the motor, the battery has drained off too many electrons. So, the problem is not so much that when you go to start it, the switch doesn't come down all the way, but in fact when you've been leaving the bike propped on the kickstand, the switch is only forced inward partway -- then, the electrons drain off because even though you have killed the engine using the kickstand, you haven't killed it enough and you've left electrons draining off into the "ground" which is the rest of the bike. Then, when you go to start it up, the switch does not open all the way, it opens halfway. But even if it does open all the way, by that time, your battery is already drained off too much, and you can't start. I'll keep fooling with it but I think I'm partly right here. Thank you !!!
