Small correction, letting go of the handle is what releases the striker, the pin is what keeps the handle in place. You have as long as you want to throw the grenade as long as you dont let go of the handle

Well you've got I/2 the lore. That is a fragmentation grenade, nik-named pineapple. There is also the green apple( concussion) and thermite etc. Best to know (witch) one some have shorter and longer fuse's some only have 3s. This prevents a return lob.

It's not accurate, the fuse (or "fuze" according to the video) doesn't immediately ignite, pulling the pin puts tension on the lever and once it moves outward it ignites, if you hold it closed while you pull the pin you're fine to hold it as long as you wish, just 5 seconds once you let go of the tension

EVEN ZACK IS BRANDING GRENADES HELP- 😭😭💀💀

There are 2 types of grenades, offensive and defensive grenade. Their difference lies mostly in whether fragmentation is present. Grenades such as the F-1 or the pineapple are called defensive grenades, as they fragment are lot, they are not ideal during an offensive push as that may injure friendlies. They are meant to be thrown behind cover where the fragments are not a concern due to cover. When the friendlies push, they will use an offensive grenade which kills using the explosive primarily and not the fragments, examples are mentioned RGD-5 and M67 HE. Their intended purposes are completely different but they all achieve the same goal, hence their difference in design. Both designs are still widely used up until this day and we see mostly offensive grenades that are round and smooth mainly because defensive grenades that look like the pineapple are less ideal to use and are more situational. But both are still widely used till this day, just that the pineapple is more situational and less ideal for friendlies. And just a bit more to the detail, those grooves on the outer shell are designed to be lines of weaknesses so when the explosives inside the grenade explodes. Those lines will crack and create some pretty uniformly spreaded out and shaped shrapnel, enhancing the kill zone. There is a common misconception that the grooves are made to enhance grip rather than fragmentation. But if that's the case, making it with a rough rubber cover would be cheaper and more grippy than the grooves. It is in fact to aid fragmentation with enhanced grip as a side effect. The M67 HE or the F-1/MK2 (First being Russian made and the latter being the American one) are both equally as modern and their intended use and situation are just completely different. Fun fact: the grooves along the grenade are actually break points. If you ever see grenade shrapnel it is all quite evenly sized and relatively square. The grooves also give a more even dispersion of shrapnel to the target area.

One more thing: The fuse only starts when the spoon of the grenade has been taken off. People tend to misinterpret that as soon as the pin is off, the fuse starts, when really the pin just keeps the spoon attached to the grenade.

Slight correction: the safety lever usually being held by hand, so grenade won't activate until you throw it, so it's 3-5 seconds after the throw, not to throw

@@seekertosecrets yes the pin secures the spoon which in turn secures the striker from hitting the firing pin. So if you don't let go of the spoon, nothing happens. Therefor you can place the safety pin back in without the grenade going off (granted that you line up the holes). Do note that the safety pin is split down the middle, before is was pulled the ends were bend outward so it couldn't just fall out. I think these days it's a twist then pull motion to get the pin out.

many inaccuracies: Grenades don't set off when the pin is pulled, it does when the spoon is gone. There is different grenades and different times for them, not all grenades are 5 seconds. Some grenades dont even release fragments.

Correct. You can pull the pin and walk around holding the grenade all day if you wish. IIRC from basic training in the 80s, all it took was 1/16th of an inch movement of the spoon to get things going.

Explained wrongly, unfortunately. The handle is what holds the striker. The pin prevents the handle from moving. Removing the pin doesnt do anything besides allow the handle to move. If you hold the handle after removing the pin, the grenade wont explode.
