How A Dior Saddle Bag Is Professionally Dyed
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Handbag Clinic is a luxury service in London that restores, authenticates, and resells designer handbags and shoes. Cofounder Charlotte Staerck walks us through how one of Handbag Clinic's artisans dyes a vintage Dior saddle bag. This includes cleaning the bag with a bristle brush and cleaning foam to remove oil and debris, painting the leather with different sized brushes, applying edge coat, and constructing a new velcro strap.

I think one small issue that makes a big difference is that they dyed the thread on the seams, which can only be avoided if they're willing to resew the entire bag. On the original bag, the stitching is apparent and contributes to the visibility of the bag's lines and silhouette, but the black bag with dyed black stitching loses that visual distinction.

The brown looked beautiful
I can't believe someone would be working with a dye like that without wearing gloves. RIP that manicure.
At least if it was coloured in grey/ dark brown/ blood red, it would have turned out better than the black finish. It just lost the overall look of the bag which stood out because of the brown colour. All the patterns and seams now have blended into pitch black.

I mean it’s not like that’s what the customer asked for or anything
I was working for this company and most of paint and repair works are done with an attitude "let's hide this problem". When bag ruined by coffee/makeup we were suggesting to paint into black straight away. Lining inside is a nightmare in any bag with no possibility to clean it nicely. Any stitching jobs were completed by hand following basic "line stitch", but should be using "saddle stitch". And the last - customers attitude. Most ladies were fake celebs and were talking to us like we are piece of rubbish.

@@cybpr8957 it's not exactly great art, is it? it's a mass produced bag, for consumption. it's produced for profit, not as some high-art piece. it's literally worn by people to signify they have a nice bag/they are wealthy (even if they're not actually wealthy). it's not something that's in a museum because it's one of a kind or extremely rare because it was an antique etc. I get buying a nice bag but cmon lol. when people say this it just shows they don't actually engage with any contemporary art, and it's embarassing. it's just doing free PR work for billionaire shareholders invested in these companies, to pretend it's more special than any other good quality cheaper bag. calling a bag that's not repaired "art" is a marketing technique. I would call the designers involved artists, and the people who helped make the bag too if it's done well. the original version/demos I would call interesting art pieces. not mass produced bags for profit of a billionaire company. it is really not that deep. you're buying into a marketing tactic so that people don't repair their bags and buy a new one, increasing waste. if anything, it's more original from the rest if it's repaired a bit. is that not what high fashion is more about? not just having the exact same look as everyone else, that goes out of fashion quickly. it's better than it being bad quality from damage and left to sit in the darkness of a wardrobe.
If you look closely that dye actually ruined the bag it didn't go on evenly

The owner's a low level celebrity. She could auction it off for much higher than market value, if she even cared about the monetary value. Her fans would buy it just to say that they have a unique bag that was once owned by her.
Actually you have to treat the leather first (not just clean it) so the dye gets absorb into the leather even and perfect. I work in the leather shoe world, so i know about this. Sorry bout my english, i tried.
That's a fine work, but I rather preferred the original brown tone. Seeing that bag turning black got on my nerves.
Everyone is just roasting the bag 😂

I don’t get this. Why’s everything gotta have resale value? This feels more like you’re renting items more than owning them. If i was spending that much on an item I would assume it would be under the consideration that you don’t need to sell it ever, so monetary value would be lost at time of purchase. I genuinely wanna understand.

@@gooddaylozano you need to get ultra rich to understand these concepts. folks like us, belonging to the middle class or lower middle class won't get these concepts! we have simple rules like buy, sell or rent. concepts like increase in resale value of already used items don't really make sense for us!

Yeah like i’m amused with the amount of people upset about this. Like this is her bag and pretty sure she knows what she’s doing? It’s not yours 💀
I don't care about final look and price, the DYEING PROCESS WAS SO SATISFYING I got tingles 😭😍
Nothing screams "£2000 bag" like a velcro closing and a paint job that under direct light shows the original color underneath.
Tbh they could just use a sharpie instead and it would work just fine.
@puggy4891
3 жыл бұрын
Just make sure it doesn’t dry out. Plus over time, the sharpie would wear out to the point where you start to see the original colour anyway.
It looks great both before and after. And if dyeing it means she'll use it more often than before then it's a good investment too
Who else agree's for them to make more bag dying videos cuz its satisfying
Wow that's some great work!.
I’m really surprised they didn’t deglaze and remove the original dye first. It seems odd to apply dye over existing dye. It would take much better had they deglazed first.
painting looked satisfying but... I really don't like the dye, it felt ruined for me as long as the owner likes it tho
The coloring is satisfying
Just put it in the washing machine with dark socks

Looks beautiful!
Worn leather bag. Me: Looks good, like a worn baseball glove. Worn leather isn’t bad. Then: “Nah, let’s make it look like a 25$ Amazon bag.”
So satisfying job
My mom bought one hidupz and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
Is it just me or does it have this purple sheen as if they used a sharpie?
THE WAY SHE PAINTED WITH THE BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL AND SATISFYING
I thought it turned out really well ... and gave out some good techniques.. just wish they sold or connected to products for dyi
Do the inside Pockets Fabric and stitching getting makeover as well?
I really liked the brown color a lot, but it's so satisfying
The original color was so pretty!
The bag still has a brown color when the light was reflecting on it...
Can we all just talk about how satisfying it is to see the dye being applied
I truly love all the people in the comments that genuinely feel they could have done this better than actual professionals
I liked the brown but it looks good in black
I think it looks great. Watching the dye process was satisfying.
There is still a tint of brown 3:06 after it is dyed, but it's okay if you want that little spark.
fav 😍
It looks like something i could find at Claires now...
Am I the only one who see the video just because im interested with the brush they use to paint the bag 😅

Hi! I want to dye my Celine luggage tote from yellow to black but I’m worried about the gold logo detail. Does anyone know if it would just be covered or if the Celine Paris gold foiling would survive? Any insight and advice would be appreciated!
I like the new color better.
I think the bag in brown (or any other colors) is better, but hey! The painting part of the bag is satisfying though!
Guys I have a black dior saddle bag, but the top is different. Like it closes with a metal buttons. I'm not sure if u can get the picture. Question how can I know if it's fake or not It was a gift from many years ago. I cant seem to find any bag like it
i think it looks great 🤷🏻
That bag was fine as-is. She could have stored in its dust bag and put it away until the owner felt it was back in style. Which I don’t understand why she didn’t just get professionally cleaned to bring back the leather’s luster. (Though Dior did an excellent job on picking the leather for this bag.)
I want to do that too Can someone suggest me products
How is the interior done?
What paint did you use?
I bought this popular video bag from eastlisa , which was originally priced at a few thousand dollars, but now it's only $200! It's really suitable to pick up feces!
Do you think that color will stain our dress after?
Where can I buy the brush?
Which dye you used for dying
How is called that brush?
I like it black
Which color we need ?
Pls mam polish name kya hai Mera yellow purse hai ye color lg jayega pls reply
okay first of all, if you are handling a leather goods, NEVER EVER let your nails be that long, you can accidentally damage the leather no matter how careful you are. Second, you can just use a saddle soap to clean it. and the last, they should have replace the velcro BEFORE they repaint it
What dye are you using???
I actually kind of like it
Honestly I really think the work done was cool but the bag looked better before
I thought there was something wrong with the video or my phone cos it was so quiet at the start
Black one looks good but I prefer the original colour. So weird to see a black saddle. I like the dye brush thing lol
What dye is she using?
Dying it was very visually satisfying. Lol
If this is alcohol ink she's using you can use just a jumbo black permanent marker that you get from Dollar Tree or other Dollar stores or you can just use black alcohol ink. Glad that she didn't have to sand or deglaze it first.
I don't know why everyone is bashing on the dye, the brown undertone gives it an interesting look and as it ages the effect will only be exacerbated
Looks like they colored it in with Sharpie
Anyone else getting the problem that the black dye axtually is dark purple?
The shape of the bag always reminds me of a liver 🤣
Why.
Maybe if it was shiny black it would look better?
Seeing the paint run into the ferrule of the brush was so painful. RIP poor brush
Why black - it was fine?
Ohhhh so this is what they mean when they say, "selling Snake Oil."
Why so expensive for a frigging bag?
Anyone can do this
if i buy one because it's cute huhuhu it doesn't make sense huhuhu
I like the brown color better 😢
Sustainability activist! I don’t need anything else in my life now.
I LOVE the change. But the restorator could've dressed in something other than black; the bag kept disappearing against their shirt.
We used a "special" dye with our "special" brush. And then we replecad the old velcro with our "special" velcro
14 year old girl when they hear one billie Eilish song:
There is still dye on her Hand
Why cant she just bought a new black one?
Man, that beautiful seamline got blacked.
The hues after dying is really distracting. At different angle can see those purple hues.
