    Absolutely Shameful act.. these people don't realize that Kannadigas are working outside Karnataka. Being a kannadiga in Mumbai nobody forced me to learn Marathi. Hindi and English is more than enough. Thoug I intend to learn Marathi.. learning spoken Marathi is tough if you are working in corporate setup, where you work for 10+hrs, skill upgrade for another 3hrs, commute 2hrs. Relaized one more thing, there multiple accents dialects within a language so for a North Indian guy to learn any South Indian language will be wuite difficult unless introduced into spoken language class( similar to Foreign Language classes you take)

    you have made a good point. please communicate this point by making a post and sharing it in your family group that are natives of Karnataka and request each one to share it in every group they are participants of. This issue will never end. It's time to give such idiot Kannadigas a taste of their own medicine! Friends please, whenever you see dark people/South Indians, go and talk with them. If they say they are from Karnataka, ask them what they do. Ask in English. If they are educated folk like engineers, doctors etc. wish them well and leave them be. If they are unable to communicate in English/communicate in broken Hindi or English, congrats you have found your target. If they say they work blue collar like taxi/auto/bus drivers or any other kind of non-multinational, non-officer posts, congrats you have found your target. Speak with them not in Hindi or English but in the most local accent of your mother tongue. When they are unable to respond, abuse them with the choicest of Hindi and English words that they are able to understand and tell them that they must communicate in your native language or leave immediately. Do this for 5 minutes and if anybody asks, lie to them that they misbehaved with you in the first place! It's the only way.

    So that means when Kannada speaking people go abroad for holidays, they must be taking French, Spanish, Italian, German, etc etc lessons years ahead right😂😂Because according to their logic you can speak ONLY the local language. Edit: some people are saying that if we live in a particular place for long term work or anything, we have to learn the language of that place. See, it's good to learn something new but it's not mandatory. I am living in Assam for more than 5 years now. Here, I communicate with everyone in Hindi. No one has ever been offended by me speaking hindi. Back in my homeplace, we speak hindi, english and our own local language and dialects. We have never had problems with adopting hindi and english. We don't feel threatened that our local language will be lost. Areeeh if you love your local language, you speak, you embrace it. Being from Rajasthan I never felt as if I am called out as being North Indian. Maharashtriyan people are always loving and will help as much as possible and I have lived in Delhi as well. But Mumbai has a great vibe. People always talk without any language barrier. They can mix English, Hindi, Marathi all in one statement but never discriminate you if you don't know any one of them. It always help to know local language surely, but getting humiliated and discriminated on basis of language. Karnataka people can think they are being cool by doing this, but in the end they are the ones who draw lines in people's mind and heart about being North Indian and South Indian. Infact if that's the case, the state should keep everything isolated, from their own Electricity Grid, their own peering with internet service providers, water supply system and so on.

How many people from the Hindi speaking states have learned Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Odia, Gujarati, Marathi or Punjabi ? Who is destroying the sovereignty and secularity of our beloved and respected nation ? Who is ruining the harmony amongst the different linguistic groups ? Who are the ones to blame ? The answer is clear. I respect Hindi, Kannada and all other Indian languages equally. Hindi speaking people expect the non- Hindi speaking ones to learn Hindi. Ninety nine percent of them never learn a single language from the diverse list that encompasses Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Odia, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and the North Eastern languages. They are the ones who are creating a rift between Hindi and non Hindi speaking people. There are a few exceptions though - Hindi speaking people who have learned at least one of these non- Hindi Indian languages. I thoroughly respect their efforts - hats off to them. But they make up a miniscule percentage. Its absolutely okay if someone comes to Karnataka, stays there and doesn't learn Kannada. Its equally okay if a non-Hindi person comes to à Hindi speaking state, stays there and doesn't learn Hindi. I again condemn the eye-sore tone and throw of the driver's words. If you come across such people tell them rigidly you dont give a damn about it and contact police immediately since the cops here in Bangalore are really helpful. Edit:- few people think since I don't speak kannada I've no right to be called a kannadiga, I'd like to clear the fact the people are identified as to where they're born and brought up, I've studied in an icsc school where my third language was kannada and in my school everyone used to communicate in either English or hindi and our mother tongue was urdu and all my friends used to communicate in English. Every language is just a means to communicate but people here in Karnataka are taking pride in their language i don't know for what reason. Also the only people who force you to speak in kannada are the rickshaw wala and cabies. Most of the people in Bangalore aren't offended by it. These guys don't even know that Bangalore was developed by IT sectors in which most of them who are working are north Indians, and no one understands that we are from the same country! The cultures might be different but that's exactly what makes our country beautiful! North Indians, South Indians, Hindus, muslims, are just topics that brainwashed people are using to create fuss in a community that lives in harmony. Btw they don't turn on the AC even for locals 😂

    These incidences are not new or alien. Has been here since decades now. But Bangalore is also full of nice people who will help you. Bangalore isnt like how other southern states are. I believe this problem is not just here , but anyone not native to his state will feel at other state. We as Indians should make our fellow Indians feel comfortable and this should be inculcated by everyone from every state. Then only can we be called truly united despite our diversity! Jai Hind!

    Today, educated people seem to be less knowledgeable. If you are able to speak Hindi or English, then do so, but don't force someone to speak Kannada. If an individual lives in a place where English or Hindi is not understood by anyone at work or for living, then it is necessary for them to learn Kannada. Is Bangalore such a place? Honestly, it's a shame when people push for only one language and act discriminatory. We should be embracing our diversity, not letting it divide us. Let's all try to be more inclusive and respect each other's backgrounds.

    it's so common. had a similar experience during my travels from Mysore to Bengaluru. No one wanted to come at the price set by Uber app. Searching continued for almost an hour. Eventually, after getting the cab the driver was adamant about not waiting or having a stop irrespective of the fact that the pitstops were added to the app. thought the journey we did not even have a loo break and he denied putting the AC on without any reason. After reaching the designation he started arguing and demanded more money. Thankfully my friend who could speak Kannada gave him a strong reply. It was a travellers nightmare

  • @Infinityvj

    If you're staying in a city for more than a year and do not understand the language of the place, you should learn it or leave it. That's a fair argument. But, if you are just there for a visit and you're being harrassed, you have all the rights to question them. I'm a Kannadiga staying in Maharashtra for more than 7 years now and I've learnt the language, the nuances, the cultural colloquials... everything... Though my fluency is not at an expert level, I can very well understand, respond and have a decent conversation in their preferred language and accent. Knowing a city's culture should be a thing of passion and pride. We are not outsiders to one another if we learn to embrace each other's differences. We ourselves create that rift for political benefits and this should end. Start learning each other's languages for starters.

  • @shenanigans4177

    @shenanigans4177

    That's a pure bullshit argument. Nobody needs to learn the regional language of any metropolitan city. Most people migrate to big cities for work, not for enjoying culture. As far as local nuances are concerned, common sense and civility will get you through. I'm okay if someone takes advantage and overcharges me because of the language barrier, like how BMTC doesn't return change sometimes or autowalas overcharging non-natives. These are minor inconveniences I'll accept rather than going over the hassle of learning a new language.

  • @Infinityvj

    @Infinityvj

    Ай бұрын

    @@shenanigans4177 Agreed. That's why I said that it helps better if you understand the language and its people and the way they are. And FYI, it is a language of the state and not just the metropolitan city. In fact, Bengaluru has lesser people speaking their own language of the state because of these very people who migrate from different states. It all depends on your own willingness to be a part of that place. If you're just there to make a living, survive and get out, atleast we need to know the basics. Enjoying the culture is an add-on to make those nuances lesser or easier. Also, agree to your point that there are also people who baselessly and mindlessly argue over trivial matters and they should be questioned for it, but it would also be wrong to misjudge their discomfort over speaking a language they don't know and assuming it to be arrogance. Yes, some are blatantly arrogant. But some have sheer pride in speaking their language, which is not seen in the same way as other kannadigas. Anyway, the point being, let's try to know one another better.

I know a family from M.P who has been living in Andhra Pradesh for 12 years and their 7 year olds speak Hindi. If that guy was kannadiga and has been living in Karnataka and don't know Kannada that is suspicious. In most of the cases it can be a fake passport too. This is true, I have been in Bengaluru for a long period of time and one thing which I have noticed is that CERTAIN Localites do not want to accept an outsider into thier place and they commonly target outsiders for not knowing their language.I have nothing against the heritage and rich culture of this beautiful and wonderful state - Karnataka(which also includes its language - Kannada) . But they often forget the bigger picture that they too come under India, whose national language is HINDI. Bengaluru is one of the most developed cities across the country and it essentially has this image of being open to the globe. It is completely not acceptable that the people of the city, which is open to the world treat the visitors badly just because of not knowing their language. If Bengaluru's people really want Bengaluru to become one the best cities across the globe, being one of the most recognised cities in the global level, they have to essentially sort this out and make visitors more comfortable and the localites should make themselves more approachable.Again I have nothing Karnataka as a state and it's language Kannada. But I also want to mention that people from other states (or countries) who have settled in the state can definitely put up an effort to learn Kannada(A wonderful language indeed! ),however again this won't be applicable to the all non-localites.
