The James Bond Aston Martin DB5, as seen in the No Time To Die opening scene (most recently, that is), was stolen in 1997. The most famous car in the world, and the most expensive movie prop in the world, this original James Bond car as seen when Q introduced Sean Connery to the Aston Martin DB5 and showed off the classic Bond car gadgets, has had several owners since 1964, but since 1997 it hasn’t been seen since 1997. But the stolen James Bond Aston Martin DB5, thought to be worth $25 million, may at last have bene found. This video tells the story of the most famous car in the world, and how it was lost and found again in one of the most mysterious art thefts of the 20th Century.

** A word on the audio / volume ** It seems a small number of viewers have found the volume of this video unusually quiet. I am so sorry about this, and I am not quite sure how this happened. For most viewers it seems to be fine; it was also fine for me on all of my devices, so I had no idea the audio would be so low for some viewers. It seems mostly to affect people playing it off a smart TV as opposed to phones/computers/through headphones. I'll look into this and promise to do my best to fix this for future videos - as you can tell from my other videos, this is the first time viewers have experienced this issue. So sorry again, and thanks for letting me know! In the meantime, here's a bunch of other videos of me talking about James Bond at a normal volume: kzread.info/head/PLGKyAwPbirg9xCsjSvrc_e3N_f887xJnG ** Correction: The chassis number of the gadget car was DP/216/1 (not DP/2161/1). This was an inconsistency I noticed in my research with different sources using the two numbers, but given how crucial this information was I should have double-checked the original (I have only myself to blame - the correct number is even in the ARI advert I use in the video!) See the comments below from Victor Hall and Andrew Gruffudd for more details about the pre-Bond production history of the car.

You cannot tell me that the owner doesn't know that the car is stolen. Like if he didn't know it was stolen I'm sure it would have been discovered by now as the owner would have shown it to multiple people. Also if I had bought a special like a DB5 with James Bond gadgets, I would want to check up on its providence to find out how special it is or isn't.

Thank you for this! In the early 80s I saw this DB5 quite a few times sitting with a handful of other cool cars in a small, private, locked "showroom" in downtown Provo, Utah. I didn't know it was THE DB5. I had hoped to stop by some time when the owner was there and try to get a closer look, but it never happened. And one day it was gone. I look forward to seeing it again...even if only on the news and/or in one of your videos.

I had seen this car in Boston on a promotional tour following the release of Thunder Ball. This car had been on display at the Blackhawk Automobile Museum approximately 6 months before it was stolen. A friend, who worked at museum, told me when it disappeared. I said at that time, that it probably went into a shipping container and headed to a private collection in the Middle East. My friend told me at the time that rumor had it, that it was dumped into the ocean for the insurance pay out. I never believed that rumor. There is a Saudi billionaire who is reportedly trying to buy every DB5 ever built. The last I heard, he had acquired a substantial number. Maybe they should check HIS garage!

@@PentexProductions I was about 6 at the time. I remember they had some scenario where they drove around in the Boston Garden firing blanks out of the machine guns, and ejected a dummy out of the roof. Once it was all over and we were leaving, a bunch of kids ran out on the floor and collected the spent shells. I did not get to see it up close at the Black Hawk Museum. By the time I heard it was up there, it had already been taken off exhibit. Road &Track did an excellent article one the car in late 1986, in an issue entitled “Exotic Classics”. Enjoyed your video. The ejecton seat worked if you had three or four guys to push it down, and the trunk was very heavy with the tanks for the props in it.The enterior was stripped because it was a stunt car, the fancy one was driven by the actor. If you are a poor person and your car gets stolen you don't hire a special recovery firm, you call the police who doesn't do anything. If you are poor and you are in possession of a stolen car, you go to jail, you don't voluntarily return property anonymously. But yeah there's no two tier justice system for sure.

Sorry about that - as you might see from other comments it's a problem that only seems to have affected a few viewers. It sounded fine on all of my various devices, but for some people the audio is extremely quiet. Do you mind if I ask what device you are using? This is the first time this has happened with any of my videos (even for people who have low sound on this one, my other videos volume is fine for them) so I'm keen to avoid the issue in the future. Thanks.

Pugliese is a shady character to put it mildly. And to say, oh, I could have just sold the car…. Yes he could have gotten four to five million for it by selling it… And another four and half from the insurance pay out. It has been scuttle but that it’s been in Dubi Since 97. Conjectures, I know… But I doubt the eyes have come off the most likely culprit.

Please, anyone with half a brain would have realised it was in the UAE, it's the first culprit that popped into my mind the first time I heard about it around the time it was stolen and I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Granted at the time I knew nothing about the airport and I assumed it'd get dismantled and go right into a shipping container and shipped as 'scrap' or 'car parts' along with a dozen dismantled Volkswagen's and reassembled in the country of destination. As for this information about it's whereabouts? Codswallop, they are just trying to pull a bluff to see if it'll spook the current owner into giving it up. Besides, if anybody purchased it, they'd have to KNOW it was the stolen screen used DB5 and have specialists confirm it before shelling out millions. IF the DB5 is still in the UAE and not resold to a Russian or Chinese billionaire within the last decade, this'd pretty much guarantee it will be, or the current owner will call their bluff.
