How a 16 year old changed pro Rocket League
Ойындар
A 16 year old Rocket League prodigy from France, named Zen, recently had his RLCS debut and put on one of the best rookie performances ever seen in the RLCS. This is the story of how Zen got there and turned Vitality back into a championship winning team again.

Zen is already widely considered the most mechanical Rocket League player in the world, and to many, the best player in the world. It sounds far fetched but his performance justifies those claims. Zen is an anomaly above the rest of the entire pro scene. His mechanics and mind for the game is on a whole other playing field. Even though he just began competing in RLCS, it's safe to say that he's not going anywhere. Zen will continue to be talked about as one of the best pros in the RLCS for a very long time.

i think that Zen is beginning to show us how important it is to set up some plays to bounce and read the ball off the ceiling. He had so many shots where the opponents couldn't read his play because of the crazy fast ceiling read he does. This could be a glimpse into what the meta is shifting towards? I mean, look at Optic Retals recent 0 second shot vs. G2 in the Spring Invitational. Thoughts?

There was like propably 50% chance Zen teamate would pass back to Zen, so Zen could get quick suprise goal then and so he decided to take the risk, because he has pro teamate, while in lower ranks you cant always trust your teamate to be able to make the pass to yourself.

Holy Moly , the skill from Zen is out of this world . I was almost speechless seeing the performance . (I forgot how many times I watched this vid after Wayton released it 3 weeks ago)
Incredible video! One thing I wished you would’ve mentioned was his unique bindings. He uses L2 for air roll left, which allows him to control how fast he rolls depending on how hard he presses the trigger. It also allows him to press it lightly and still air roll left without flipping when he uses his second jump. No idea how nobody has thought to do it before him, but a ton of pros are starting to copy it.

It's amazing to watch how much the skill ceiling in this game has been pushed since I started playing. Being almost 30 and knowing I just don't have the time to be this dedicated stings sometimes but I still enjoy watching and seeing what new boundaries will be broken.
@Ren3gade

Right there with you. I pushed Counter-Strike competitively pretty hard as a young teenager, but getting close to 30 and just dont have the time/energy anymore to hang in the competitive scene. This skill ceiling shown here is down right nasty. Being able to start a competitive game at such a young age (8-12 years old) has such huge advantages.
@MrCraazed

Amen. I played the game for nearly 3 years straight from 2016-2019, peaked at champ 2, started a job soon after and didn’t have the time for RL anymore. I hop on every 6 months or so for a week and I can still get back to champ 2, but it will always be my ceiling because I don’t have the time to put into learning the newer mechanics. I sometimes wonder what rank I’d be at if I kept playing it. Oh well, good times.
@memerinal

@@MrCraazed same here, except I only touched C1 and had to stop RL in 21' because of work. Good times indeed. Had a regular bunch of buddies to play 3v3 with.
Zen is the reason I found the 1v1 scene and switched to being a Solo main. For me trying to solo queue is beyond frustrating, and only focusing on 1v1s I was able to push myself past my 2v2 rank while becoming a much better player. I saw the Zen vs RW9 match live, and to me it was on a whole different level of tension and excitement compared to regular RLCS matches. 100% worth watching, but seeing it live was a special experience.
This was an excellent, excellent video! Enjoyed watching from start to finish! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
You have a talent for editing videos and storytelling, i had to watch the entire video, thanks so much for this video!
Your way of telling a story is top notch! Had chills during so many moments.
I’ve watched this video like 10 times already because of how entertaining it is. All this is doing to me, is forcing me to get better at the game. Thanks for the education Wayton! Love the videos ❤
this kind of thing happens in almost every sport, game, discipline, etc. over time a few people emerge who are just ahead of the curve and they pull everyone forward, it's always fun to watch.
Youre one of the few Rocket League creators i still enjoy watching. Great video thank you.
They are honestly the top team to win worlds playing like this...and to put Zen third most of the time is just brilliant strategy because of his mechanics and ability to stall or take the full court solo. It has been very fun to watch.

such an amazing video, great work
That fake, the pass, and the shot from Zen was absolutely crazy! Good teamwork is key. Though he really is a great overall statistic player, that is above the cue wow!
It’s hard to articulate the next level Zen has brought but this vid does it really well! I’d emphasize it’s his mechanical consistency that stands out the most. Like sure we’ve seen goals similar before, but he knows how to set himself for it and hit it way more often than any other pro now
Who's here after vitality won worlds
WHAT. i have heard about zen on tiktok that he should have a own rank above ssl but i never know he was this popular and made this much affect on pro scene. HOLY. i actually thought he was just a amazing rl player who posted videos of his highlights and people on tiktok etc were just joking / overreacting about him. truly inspirational and helpful video. cleared every fact i couldve asked about this player. He will make an huge impact in the future RLCS
That debut tourny was EPIC. Dude came in clutch multiple times and left everyone in awe. It was awesome to see!

It's a scary game to get in to since there's a lot to learn but I'd suggest trying it, I just started seriously playing like a lil over a month ago (I had it for a while but never really tried to play it much) and I'm noticing a lot of improvement since then. I bet if you gave it a shot you'll learn it and have fun. Maybe use a controller though if you have one since most players do better with it than keyboard and mouse.
And now world champion Pog
Very well summarized and edited great work
What a great vid bro so informational and well spoken my guy keep it up❤❤❤
Imagine zen and rw9 on the same team😂
The way he moves is just so beautiful! Kinda makes me want to play RL again.
This young dude is incredible. Watched a prior video showing his advancements along the way from not knowing how to air roll all the way to the best player in the world. It's truly incredible what you can achieve if your dedicated and give it your all. Majority of people possess the ability to be extremely good at many things, we just don't put enough dedication and obsessiveness into these things. I heard something along the lines of being really really good at something is just being obsessed with a hobby. so find what you enjoy and be obsessed.
Fantastic storytelling. Thank you!
I was beginning to think people had hit the absolute top of the skill ceiling for games in general, but this just shatters my mind. Zen has proven to hundreds of thousands that the skill ceiling is so much higher than we had originally thought.
I am amazed that I predicted back in 2021 after watching Zen that he was an absolute player to watch, but I could not have truely predicted him becoming essentially the best Rocket League player in the history of the game. He is amazingly consistent in 1’s, 2’s and 3’s, has won his first three RLCS debuts and amassed such a following that has not been seen since Justin scored his (then) insane famous goal. I have to agree with Wayton on this one and will certainly echo the sentiment that Zen does indeed deserve his own tier of player skill level. He has, without a doubt, set the bar for the game. I can’t say much else except that I am keen to watch him play and perform in the future.

In France we predicted that as soon as we started to see him in every pros ranked games and clipping them one by one. I remember when I was on Kaydop's streams and Zen connecting to the game and Kaydop was like "Ok I need to be careful I don't want to get double reseted by a 14yo kid" and all the chat already knowing his name and knowing he was dangerous. But just like you, no one could've ever predict he would become (in his first split) such a top tier player already making himself a legend.
