Being a rancher or livestock breeder is hard work, but you have a sense of independence. My family has been raising and breeding livestock in New Mexico since the late 1690s. We enjoyed our job because we have a sense of independence and it's our history.

I thought america's sheep industry was bigger than that so this was interesting to see. Here in New Zealand nearly all of our sheep farms or stations are large outdoor concerns. Think our sheep population is in the region of 40m which is way down from the 70m back in the 1950's. If you ever get to NZ go to the Agrodome in Rotorua as they put on a show with all the different sheep breeds and include shearing and sheepdog handling. Well worth it.
