Oh wowser, what great set of film for the history books. Lots of names at different points of their skating. Mountain dropped a dime on that shit. Seen a lot of comments on the ramp, this is 86' Same year the CCCC ramp opened in Centerville Va - Looks damn near identical. But when I caught the first one, a big deal in Tx. There's a good chance an old friend who taught me to drop in on his halfpipe would be at this place. I know he skated everywhere around this time. Well sure enough, in episode #3, the amateur ranks and there's Pat. Sadly, the world lost him year and some ago but I don't think anyone ever met him when he didn't have a smile and words of encouragement. I've been digging up old skate stuff and came across one where Pat was helping announce for the pro runs at Kona. Hawk was a skinny kid then man. Lot of great skaters in the contest too. Pat would get a lot better on a ramp like this. The Cedar Crest ramp was10 miles maybe from where we grew up and went to school.

Never understood why all the vert guys quit skating around 92 or before. Neal Hendrix was vert pro and in all The New Deal videos at the time and he was killing it. Maybe no sponsers but around 92 or 93 or something the Transword 411 videos started coming out and you could of sent fotage to them. there was a scene if you were a vert rider. The first Birdhouse video Berra is skating vert and Koston was in H Street vids. And Danny Way and Colin Mc Kay, Seemed like these vert guys from the late 80's would be so good and dominating the early 90's they were in there early mid 20's then as well. I mean if you can do old school tricks just throw in kick flips and stuff seemed like they would of been able and at that level. Tony Hawk NEVER quit, he skated the dead era.

this is a very interesting comment, and got me thinking about it... I just happened to find the 1991 NSA am finals, that had vert, and less than a handful of the names out of dozens in the vert comp did I recognize. the street however had some names that went on to be huge..... of course not all skaters followed that structured path for sure, some came up just organically... some of the 80's vert guys kept on, like chris miller, but quite a few definitely quit, at least competitively and not recreationally enough to remain in the public eye at least, even if they still did skateboard.... who else kept on besides hawk and miller?

@@xisotopex Caballero never quit and he's been on Powell the whole time. He was hitting some big rails to trying to keep up with kids on street. Lance didn't quit, he started The Firm which did well and then went on to skate for Flip after (check out his his part in Flip's Extremely Sorry video, killing it in his 40s and hippie jumping the ladder in the deep end of a pool is brilliant.

@@alfrontsidefernandes5472 they'd be worth a bundle today. I saw an original Tony Hawk ca 1987 deck on eBay for a grand! If I had it, I dunno, I'd think about it.

I'm pretty sure it's just some musicians they hired when editing the 85/86 NSA contest videos (or maybe even just some friends). Each song has that same sound for the non-live audio in the series. You can definitely here it in Chicago Blowout.

My best guess is the Big Boys. A lot of the NSA contest blasted the Big Boys and I can't think of a band that far back that was a punk funk thing with a horn section.

They mention in another vid that the ramp has 10 feet of transition, two of vert, 16 foot flat bottom. Kinda massive

They all rip....it takes balls to skate vert. Kids today don't do it.
