Houston Riot of 1917

As African American soldiers were slowly integrated into the US armed forces during WWI, southern Jim Crow communities reacted against the presence of armed black soldiers on military bases hosted in their communities. Such resistance spurred the Houston Riot of 1917, one of the most violent civil disturbances in Houston's history.
