Depending on the situation it can be better than him going limp. A contraction like that is called spastic paralysis and it usually due to trauma to the upper motor neurons in the cerebral cortex. So it could be indicative of a concussion of other brain trauma. The other case is called flaccid paralysis and is due to a lower motor neuron lesion. Which could be indicative of a severing of the cord or a spinal contusion to that area. If you go back and watch the Jahvid Best video there’s a good example of a concussion causing spastic paralysis.

Happened to me when I got kicked in the head during a soccer game. My teammates thought I was holding my arms in the air for someone to help me up until they realized I was knocked out and stiff. I was told by many that it was the scariest thing they had ever seen
I hope for the best for him and a speedy recovery, that's something you never wanna see.

I played college football and had an incident similar to this during a spring practice, where I couldn't move or feel my legs. Freaky experience, recovered within 12 hours fully. But crazy scary and still had to deal with the results of a concussion for a few weeks.
@ACasualRacer

@Jeff Miller it was strange, I was also dealing with a severe concussion so I wasn't all there. So I didn't really grasp the situation fully until a few days afterwards. I actually passed out in class a few days later... It was a crazy two weeks or so following the incident because of my concussion symptoms. But then once I got cleared, I actually had an amazing final week of spring ball coming out of nowhere. I think because my body had been resting the whole time my brain was healing.
I love 💗 watching college football players surrounded their teammates with injuries and show respect 🫡 and support at all times like 👍 this
For many of us that played, we knew how fast and how dangerous many hits can be….prayers and a speedy recovery for this young man…..
University of Houston linebacker Donavan Mutin was released from the hospital late Friday night and is “up and walking,” the school said in a statement Saturday. Mutin “remains in good spirits” and will continue to be evaluated by the team’s medical staff, the school added. No other details were provided on Mutin’s injury.
My prayers go to him, the team, and most importantly his family ❤️❤️. Football is family ❤️🏈
Never like to see that happen to these young men. Hope he's OK
Poor guy. Proof that sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you get hit if you get hit in the exact wrong way. Very scary seeing the slow way his arm came down after the hit. Certainly hope this kid is OK and recovers very quickly.

I cover the B1G and AAC football conferences for a living and I am crushed right now. What a horrific injury for Donavan Mutin and the Houston Cougars, who were having a special season until this moment. Hope Mutin is ok and that the Cougars aren’t emotionally derailed from this, because they’re a heck of a football team. Thoughts and prayers with Mutin and his family.

I hate to see athletes go down like this. Glad to know he’s doing better now
I'm wondering if the back caught Mutin's helmet with his thigh or hip and turned it. Regardless, he should be getting good care. Hopefully they can keep any swelling down.
Memphis as a whole is dangerous at this point😳😬😤😭💯
Hopefully he gets back to 100% Looks like he won’t be paralyzed at least. Prayers my man.

More good news: Latest update is that he has cleared concussion protocol and multiple doctors. After sitting out the UConn game, he makes his return against Cincinnati on Saturday in the AAC Championship!
I hope he is ok, that he was just out of it from the hit. Sadly it looks really bad, and I just hope that he will be able to recover without permanent damage

He got KOed. Thats what happened crazy from what looked like a standard collision. Wish they showed a replay.
Well the good news is that he was in the hospital moving and everything so helpfully he's fine
I’m honestly surprised these type of injuries don’t happen at least once a game..if you think about it

Sign of a bad concussion, basically. It's definitely not great, with long-term CTE implications, but it's usually worse if they go totally limp and drop like a sack of potatoes. That generally indicates paralyzing spinal trauma of some degree.

I still couldn't see clearly what happened. Maybe he suffered what we call a 'stinger', where you jam your neck area and the nerves shut you down. It happened to a friend of mine playing high school football. He was stunned for a few hours.
