Yay!!! I missed you two together❤ Mike the rent rules in bigger cities have completely changed. Your deposit is your 1st and last month’s rent and rent in bigger cities is atleast $2k per month. In North Carolina average rent for 1 bedroom is $1,300. Also there are apartments that you could own. They are called co-ops.

Yay! It was great seeing both of you together. It was very informative. From what I see apartments in Korean are equivalent to Condos and Co-ops in the US. Co-ops you buy the unit but have to follow the rules of the Co-op board. Condos you own the unit and do what you want as long as you don't damage the building structure.

I'm really loving this style of content! It's pretty chill, informative, and a rich topic for doing LOTS of episodes (and potentially easy to produce). In our work slack, we have a channel where all the international assignment staff hang out, chat, and provide tips about all the different things they have to deal with in living/moving to a different country (in my case Japan), that are different or unexpected compared to where they came from. It can range anywhere from trash sorting, registering w/the Ward Office, things to look out for when apartment hunting, housing advice, where to shop for stuff, getting things fixed, getting a bank account, which credit cards are easy to apply for (and don't automatically reject you because you're a foreigner), suggestions on which phone carrier to apply for, etc... The subject is rich!

Hey, Jina and Mike. It's nice to see you guys together on a video again. Is Mike still teaching at the international or private school (I forget which one)? It must be tough still working a full-time job and working with the new business.

I used to live in officetels in Korea with my husband before kids. We were English teachers in 2012-2014 and were provided an officetel one year and the next year we took monthly stipends and rented out own officetel. We paid a $5k deposit and $900 a month back then. I would rent an officetel again if I was single or couple without kids in Seoul! I enjoyed watching this guys! Keep practicing the Korea A to Z! You'll get it! 🤣🤣🤣

Deposit for apartments are usually one months rent here in MD. For deposits though, many of the apartments I've lived in and friends have lived don't give back the deposit or try to take as much of it as they can (they try to find a lot of issues to keep the deposit) You can buy a condo, which is similar to an apartment in terms of it being a building or complex of buildings containing a number of individually owned apartments (which are known as condos).

Why is it so hard to find a "stand alone" house in Seocho-gu or Gangnam? I can't stand apartments or condos. I live in a house in Vegas, and I want one as close to Seocho-gu as possible. My company is opening up a venture capital office, and they're looking at Seocho-gu or Yeouido.

Hey! Condominiums are basically apartments you own. Some places still call it an apartment but you own it.
