Household Cavalry summer camp

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment has swapped ceremonial duties and London city life for its annual rural summer camp in Norfolk.
More than 100 horses and 200 troopers made the journey from Knightsbridge to Bodney, near Thetford, to develop their riding skills and increase the confidence of the horses.

@@robertneven7563 LOL. Such fun. The delight of a super well trained horse! I know it takes time to create a bond with a horse but when you are about to stop riding the family pony, you lived in a different space! This pony was as stubborn as any horse I knew then AND as stubborn I have ever seen over the years. His special was “Nah I ain’t doing the beach today” when declining that important left turn to the road to the beach. Short of getting him on a float, there was no seaside for this pony. And here is the best laugh. As soon as there were no more children learning to ride, Teddy would take himself to the beach.words fail me…with a big grin. 🐎🐎🐎🐎❤️❤️❤️❤️ ,

Are you not aware you don't have to be British to join the Regiments which make up the Household Division, or indeed any unit of the British Armed Forces. Any person who is a National from a Commonwealth country and is of good moral standing with no criminal record and can pass the entry requirements (the same as any UK applicant) can apply to join any part of the British armed forces and once in promotion is on merit. Type in "Search" box, "1st black officer in Household division", it might surprise you!!

The same Regiments, the Life Guards and Blues & Royals, also operate light armoured tanks on reconnaissance operations.

Too bad they cant have more time out to be a horse. It has to be stressful for both horse and riders being on parade daily.

They all look healthy, happy and loved. They've got it better than so many horses in other parts of the world. I'm more worried about the farrier saying you can learn the trade during a few weeks summer camp! It takes years to become a farrier and you have to study anatomy, remedial shoeing, diseases etc, not just how to hammer out a shoe and nail it on.

@@cyflym11 He didn't say that ; he meant learning the trade HERE in the regiment, not just at summer camp. There's another video where one says he is two years into his three year apprenticeship. I know one such farrier and he is extremely knowledgeable. It certainly isn't a few week course. At least one farrier has gone to the Olympics as team farrier.

They sand guard in turn for a couple of hours daily, there are excellent stables & believe me, the Crown has more than enough land (yes even in London) for them to run & graze. Its an excellent horse life for them. So much cruelty to horses in many countries.

@@cyflym11 : I think the point that was being made here is that at the Summer Camp, away from the full facilities of their London barracks, the farrier gets the experience of doing the job "in the field" using a mobile forge as his counterparts would have had to use in the 1700 or 1800's, or even during WW1. I think the last British cavalry charge took place in Burma in 1942 during WW2.
