House was gloomy. Now it's dream modern home that friends crash in

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The home with "the circus tent roof" sat on the market for 6 years before Isabella and Diogo visited its dark maze of tiny rooms. Seeing potential in its modernist history, they bought it and began to uncover its more playful past.
Architects Pablo and Alberto Twose began to study the home's geometry and discovered beneath the slanting walls a triangular pattern that formed variations of hexagons and octagons. Using these shapes as a guide, they took down walls and doors to abolish the confusing labyrinth of rooms in favor of bright open spaces that flow together like a child's puzzle.
The Twoses called it Casa Tangram in reference to the Chinese dissection puzzle of the same name. By playing with the tangram tiles, the architects created a light-filled space without doors that resembles "a forest with clearings that invite us to stop, play, rest".
Playful elements run throughout the home, like a centrally-placed hammock as a sofa, a stealth pantry camouflaged behind cladding and a toilet room concealed behind artful tiles. For the work-from-home couple and their young daughter, it's a wonderland they rarely need to leave.

Neighborhoods are much better when they have a quirky, patchwork quality. I would love having a house like this next to mine or on my street because it is so unique. I would dye my hair bright blue but I don't have the guts. People can be mean to eccentrics. These people are charming and they appreciate their house for being bold.🙂🙂🙂🙂💯💯❤️❤️

It was very disorienting. But I liked the airy light, the indoor/outdoor feel, the secret rooms, the clever (re)design. If I were a child, I would bring all my friends here! To play hide-n-seek and play tag all day long!

The great thing about this home is how unique it is. One can do so much with it. This home has some really interesting and beautiful features. I love homes that do not look like a bunch of boxes smashed together along with poor quality work and materials, half-assed construction that will cause nothing but issues and headaches guaranteed at some point. First thing for me would be bringing in more lighting options. I would bring in materials to diffuse the echoing sounds, various beautiful plants, woods and soft colours throughout the home. If some of the areas could be opened up would be lovely as well. The roof is one of the best features. IMO. Thank you for sharing more unique homes.

Very cool design 👍. If i were to nitpick, I would’ve liked the same complexity in the 3rd dimension as well. Right now it has two flat levels. If it had 3-4 quarter and half levels, it would’ve added so much more. But it wasn’t an option, because the building was already built.

Very unique...a work of art! But quite frankly, NOT a very practical home for the vast majority. Not sustainable to build in this way as it costs SO much more to build a house like this, both in materials for the same volume of enclosed space in a circle, square or rectangle and in heating/cooling, etc. So much more surface area for siding, SO many hips and valleys in the roof and hence far more expensive to build and to maintain/keep from leaking! The irregular sprawling nature of the house makes it much more expensive to heat and cool, etc, etc. But fascinating and beautiful not doubt!

The shapes ... I have vertigo and would probably walk into the walls and furniture here - somehow the lack of predictable route lines throws me off. I sometimes wonder if this is an issue for other dizzies as it is a very common condition. I do remember an episode of the UK show "Grand Designs" where the husband had a second-storey part of the house accessed by a glass bridge over the living space. His wife had vertigo and couldn't cross the bridge. Hmmmm ..... I'm very comfortable with right angles - they let my sense of balance settle down.
