Hey guys; I want to apologize for using the term “master bedroom.” Its origins should have been something I already realized. So sorry, didn’t think about it that way as it was so commonly used. The terminology “master bedroom” comes directly from slavery language; and I will not be using it in the future!

Your house is Beautiful and I love the sky lights. They always brighten up the house even on a cloudy day. The playroom is just what you needed since Molly's bedroom is so small. She likes to be downstairs with you anyways. You will continue to make it your home. Wishing you and your Family good health and Happiness in your new home for years to come!!

Thanks for sharing this. Would you say this is an average size house for Ireland? Or larger/smaller than average? Am I correct in assuming there are no built-in closets in the children's rooms? Is that the norm?

  • @mcginnsteph

Yeah I would say this is basically an average size home for Ireland (especially Dublin, the most populated area) our downstairs may be a little bigger than average bc of the extension (kitchen and dining area)…. The average home may not have two living rooms/ spaces downstairs. Yeah, there are no built in closets in Ireland. They just use wardrobes like the ones in our bedroom (I think these days, newer homes will come with wardrobes in the house)

I always thought the term master bedroom came from the master or owner of the house? Not from slavery? But then I’m Irish so wouldn’t think of it having any connection with slave masters.

Well “master of the house” just even sounds rooted in the dynamic of slavery tbh. I’ve also seen some videos of people teaching that as the origin anyway; and for me personally, i try to make it a priority to honor the lived experience or perspective of the BIPOC community. Not that hard to just say ‘primary’ just incase it could have an offensive meaning.

I think the bed sizes are named differently because American "kings" and "queens" are fatter LOL. By the way, is it my imagination or are stairs a few inches narrower in Ireland? In all of the videos of Irish homes that I watch, the stairs seem a bit narrower. Your house looks like new construction (at least in the video). Everything looks so fresh and new - like a model home! As always, congratulations on the house!

I think the rooms being a little smaller on average in Ireland (and probably most the rest of Europe lol) may be why the larger size beds aren't quite as popular lol (although I do know other people that have super kings too).... I'm not sure that I had noticed them being narrower but now that you've said it, I suppose maybe they do seem more narrow! lol probably again bc the home sizes would be at least slightly smaller on average I think 🤔 thanks! the fresh coat of paint helped a good bit but out upstairs definitely doesn't seem new in person 😆 up close there's little details that show the age a little bit that being said, it could be worse for sure!! its got a lot going for it!

@@mcginnsteph It really does have a lot going for it! And on "film," everything looks just beautiful. My condo looks a lot better in pictures than it does up close and personal, though - so I know what you mean. Think of it as "character" or "patina." Little imperfections can make a place more comfortable since you're not worried about keeping it perfect! I looked up "average square feet of a home in Ireland" and Google tells me it is 957 square feet, which is 94 square feel more than I have right now! But I live alone - so it is plenty. However, my brother and sister-in-law came to visit a few weeks ago and I realized that three people in such a small place with one bathroom is extremely cramped. If I had stairs, I would measure them and send you the measurement so you could compare it to your stairs, LOL. Anyway, congrats on your beautiful home! Woo-hoo!

@@timward3116 957 sq. ft is about what I would have guessed; I was gonna say, I wonder what it would be for the states, but it’s just too large of a country, will depend on the state itself, and the city itself. I always see videos come up of New York City apartment tours, and they can be tiny! (I mean not surprising really for NY). Ours feels just right! ☺️ (would like our room & the third bedroom to be just a little bit bigger but it’s all good! Very appreciative of our space overall) …. Yeah, you always realize the size of a space when you have guests lol, I always thought my parents in-laws house wasn’t that small (even though sometimes my mother-in-law would refer to it as small) but when you have extra people in it, you definitely notice lol 😂 but their home is perfect for just them!

@@mcginnsteph I was surprised when I learned that the "average" Irish home is larger than mine but the "average" British home is smaller than mine. But you are quite right about it all depending on where in a country/state/city you live. I have probably watched the same videos of New York City apartments where the renters make use of every inch of wall space for storage. Those videos always make me feel good, because even with my low income I feel as though my place would be considered large by some people in New York. When I lived in Cork, I visited some homes that seemed VERY small (old row houses), but when I lived in the south suburbs of Dublin in semi-detached homes (rented a room with a bunch of other guys), the two homes that we rented were much larger than where I had lived in the Phoenix area and were probably larger than everything else I've lived in since. But I thank God for my little place everyday. My neighborhood is probably the greenest in Phoenix. The people are nice. I'm not far from downtown (although I never go downtown). And it's like an old shoe that fits just right (although my storage sucks and it's hard to find stuff because everything is shoved where it fits, not where it would logically belong). Okay, you've got a family and things to do! I will let you go! Have a great weekend! 😄

Housing stock in Ireland has been deliberately inflated by the Irish government. To do this, the Irish government needed money, so it borrowed 200 billion euro since 2008 and used it to inflate existing house prices. The only way Ireland`s housing crisis can be solved, is to deflate house prices. To do that, the government needs to impose much higher taxes on existing houses but exempt new builds and first time buyers from the tax. This will cause owners of existing houses to sell them to first time buyers and the people selling existing houses will buy new houses to escape the tax. This will result in a construction boom and the revenue earned from those who choose to stay in their existing houses will be enough to knock 200 billion euro off the national debt, essentially erasing all the mistakes and manipulation Irish governments have caused since 2008.

something I wish I was more knowledgable about but I really appreciate hearing your thoughts! governments can be disappointing when it comes to truly looking after their people, that's for sure 🙄🫤
