Becky I don’t think shake and vac actually cleans it just refreshes the smell. I would recommend you hire in a carpet cleaner. Well done on building your first piece of furniture. House is lovely

@Becky Reynolds I highly recommend renting the Rug doctor. I rented it for two days last year, was around £40 I think including the carpet wash liquid. Did a whole three storey town house. We lived in that house for 7 years with beige carpets (and two kids) and after the rug doctor landlord couldn’t believe we haven’t changed the carpets. We’ve now moved but those clean carpets are still there lol

It’s exciting putting your first home together and you are doing very well. Don’t be afraid of charity shops - many stock furniture and you can pick up some lovely pieces.

It has had loads of chemicals leak all over it, so I managed to find 2 shelve units for £20 at B&Q!!!

Take your time ⏲ As long as it is clean. Do one room at a time. Those febreve evolutions are lovely. I have one on my landing. They are very strong. I have that carpet stain remover. I use it on my Hall runners. It's brilliant for removing stains.

The hardest part is getting the smoke smell out haha luckily I can stay at my parents until the place is ready!

A handy tip I learnt years ago buy x4 clamp clips from B&Q put 1 at front door, 1 at back door, 1 bottom of stairs and 1 at top of stairs and then x4 torches, and clamp in each clip. They have been a god send over years if you come home to power cut torch is right at hand and during night if power goes out torches, at both end of stairs. Those shelves from shed paint up and put herbs on them would look lovely. Edit and buy or make a first aid box and keep in a, specific place tape emergency numbers on it.

I was, also going to say better to get them throughly cleaned for the same reasons as above .. They still look good & are still a neutral colour... & especially before you start putting in your furniture.. Only just found your blog but really enjoying it Becky & love the house renovation.. I will check them out! Going white throughout to begin with to seal the walls and will go from there!

I got through 7 bottles of Cif when I moved into my current house (other products are available!). I also did a mass purchase of B&M lampshades as a temporary fix (they're still here lol). I'm a sucker for Ikea. Just wish they still did their printed catalogue. I have an Ikea sofa which has proved super hardwearing for the price.

Becky, for your carpets you can buy cleaning foam and powder (Vanish do one and it works well, I have found) and that might work better for odour removal and a general clean of the carpets if you can’t/don’t want to invest in a carpet cleaner (or your considering replacing carpets at some point and it’s an expense you’d prefer to avoid, especially if you’re intending to replace at some point anyway). I only say this as the shake and vac generally will only mask smells / grime on the carpets - it wont really clean them and you might want to try something else given your previous house owner was a smoker (and your trying to get rid of those smells etc) - it may be a bit more expensive, but worth a go! From there, you could then use the shake and vac as a maintenance thing :) Great vlog btw I’m invested in your new home journey and look forward to future vlogs!

Yeah, I’m actually getting them professionally cleaned now! The carpet is relatively new and replacing them is definitely out of my budget. But I will now have enough shake and vac for the rest of the year 😂😂

@@BeckyReynolds 😂 Well, at least your stocked up! Have you had time to get any quotes? Sometimes it can work out cheaper to invest in a carpet cleaner than getting them to come out and clean them (depending on how much they’re charging) - we have a Bissel (Vax also do some), you can pick them up from places like Argos/other electrical retailers as well and then it’s just a matter of buying the carpet shampoo as you need it. It’s a positive because then at your own convenience you can wash your carpets once or twice a year depending on the level of wear your carpets get; they also come in handy for any spillages etc for spot cleaning too - especially if you’re anything like me and accident prone 😂😳🤦🏻‍♀️

I got quotes £120 for two visits for the whole house. The kitchen is currently taking over the living room, and my bed is being delivered before the kitchen is fitted. It’s a real juggling act!

@@BeckyReynolds thats not a bad quote to be fair for the entire house and them coming out twice. I can imagine! Hopefully it is all worth the shuffling and your happy with the results once the kitchen is in and your bed delivered and is then there for you to fall in to lol! The juggling of things like this can be stressful, it’s like counting down time until things are done so that someone else can come to do their job/you can get on with things you want to get on with in the house yourself, having appointments or installers and things being fitted in with one another so that people are not in each others way etc too. Thankfully, once the kitchen is in, thats a big job ticked off and then less disruption for you!🤞oh, and you’ll get your living room back too 😂

I felt your pain about having the marl bedside tables , mines also totally full of crap ! Especially the old phone chargers ?! 🤦‍♀️ lol . Really excited for you . Happy cleaning .

my son has the same desk in black .

My Sister has a white IKEA unit, with cube shelves, and it has draws, and big square shelves at the bottom, and you put these canvas boxes inside. She chose pink. She has Xmas decorations in one, books in another,and a few toys for when her Grand kids come over. I have the Grey Oak in my house. ❤

Becky congrats on your new home! I see you have shake and Vac This won't clean your carpets it's like an air freshener! Hire a carpet cleaner B and q or supermarkets have them as I hired one thinking my carpets didn't need it when I moved in as they looked new Omg the dirt that came up was unbelievable! Also get some nice paint and paint that shelf that was in shed! You can get outdoor paint and put pots on it in your garden I bought my sofas at IKEA but there not very comfy although look fab Good luck and sure you will love your new house! Xx Cathy

Just a thought but a dehumidifier set on air clean may help draw the smell out too, maybe if you could borrow one to try.

There is a product called carpet fresh. It's a foam that you let soak in its great for getting rid of smells and you an use it on curtains/sofas etc

Middleton Pink by farrow and ball is a lush light pink. Get it colour matched at a paint shop and it's way cheaper. We have it and everyone comments on it including men!

Love this. Have you thought about using a carpet cleaner hun? I did this when I moved into our rented property and the dirt came out of the carpet actually made me want to vomit. Maybe it would feel cleaner and fresher for you xxx

I wouldn't hide the smell. I would rip up all the carpets or properly clean them and wipe down everything you can. You can use bicarb of soda to neutralise the smell too. Open all windows and doors!

Rent a carpet cleaner or hire it done. It will make your life so much better!

I would recommend hiring a cleaner to freshen but everything is coming on it will look lovely and you will miss your mum bringing you your bottle 😂 good luck outti g rest together

Blimey, that looks complicated. I have a useful little aid....my youngest daughter. She'll have the thing assembled while I'm still scatching my head and looking at the instructions upside down.

I bought a unit and the walls were a horrible grey colour and it stank of cigarette smoke. I sugar soaped all of the walls and they were actually a lovely light blue and the cigarette smoke smell disappeared.

Sugar soap washes nicotine off of everything 😀 You can hire a Rugdoctor carpet cleaning machine to refresh your carpets 😀
