    Hahaha that was awesome fantastic and amazing dude literally paints with both hands has a roll of masking tape on his wrist, carries a bucket of paint up a ladder with a paintbrush and a roller Clips the bucket to the side of the ladder; and if that wasn't badass enough has the presence of mind to paint with exquisite technique while narrating the whole thing on a ladder [.... yeah I saw the ladder slip edit, be careful up there]

    Nice video, thx. How do you stop those rubber covers at the top of your ladders 10:19 from sticking to the fresh paint? I find the Werner ones are great to prevent slippage but tend to stick to newly painted siding if I leave it there for even a few minutes. They'll actually pull the paint off if left too long.

    It's best to give the paint a day to dry/cure and beyond that you can either wrap it with a clean rag (but it can leave marks possibly), or use blue tape over the ladder mitts to possibly help.

  • @XCPainter

    k m I have some basic footage of doing wood railings but haven't made it into a video. You can use the 4" mini roller to apply paint on the average picket/rails/posts. For higher end when you need a brushed look then use a brush with nice strokes. Spraying is always an option but you might need to hold a drop cloth as a backdrop.

    good job Mr brush man. The only thing I can see that would speed you up is a straight cut brush flipping that angle over is pulling paint back off. If you were trying to get more out of one coat. you could roll first. then cut. then load up your brush and tip this would give you a heavier coat with one trip. may not cover that dark color on this job but might get you to get it in one coat on another job. I usually can get 2 coats thickness in one coat that way. on some jobs Like large 2 story gables worth doing. Still get 10 or more years in California sun one of my coats usually last just as long as most guys 2 coat. Might be harder on paint here than where you are. I am assuming north Like washington or idaho.

  • @XCPainter

    @XCPainter

    6 жыл бұрын

    k m There's a few variables on whether to paint the sides or not. First is customer preference, but also depends on the siding materials or how nice the caulking looks on the siding/trim joints. A home that has stained Cedar shakes may look nicer with the sides of the trim painted white, however Hardiplank sided homes usually look sharper with the (trim) face painted.

    k m Painting the sides of the trim is often called French cut. Mini homes don't have French cut trim because it can highlight the inconsistent edges. If you have a craftsman style home with really clean caulking lines it can look okay. It does take a long time to do though.

    FYI I finished painting my cape cod style cedar/redwood sided home ...I had about 6 window treatments like the one you are painting. I used your technique...I sprayed the sides, and only rolled/brushed the face. Mostly because what u said about the caulking...it would have been hard to get really clean lines. I really like the look. Its cool and it also looks neat...The previous paint job did not do it that way, which is why I never considered it I guess. Did not know there was another option. I don't know the exact price for this one, (I am not the company owner), but if I said a number most people would question why it costs what it costs, despite the fact they don't see the whole job or the full scope of work. Some people would say they could do this job in a day... anyways it took 2 guys 5 days. Two coats on everything including gutters and downspouts.

    Plus your starting trim yet you have all the drop clothes down even tho the house is all sprayed out l.. Here we always pull all the drops after its sprayed out.. Your reasoning is probably because you still have to trim but when we get done spraying we pick up all the drops because it makes for a cleaner job, looks more organized for the customer... I would NEVER leave drops down over night....We are all about customer service so...and then when we trim we just carry one runner under us if it's over concrete, tike, etc.

    @@nothingsimpostleble1593 okay thanks for clarifying. 2 coats, one day. I masked everything ahead, (more than just windows and foundation) while my boss sprayed it out twice. He did the prep work for a few days prior to that while I was on another jobsite. Job had a few colors, accent gables in front, and everything was washed, prepped, spot primed and double coated. We were there 5 days including finishing the front door, which I did twice because the color was mixed slightly off. Side note, of course we want to do the work as quickly, effectively, and efficiently as possible. The job is estimated and invoiced based on job scope, client's expectations, and we do our best to make sure the job is a success for everyone.

    Respectfully, good videos by you like too many painters out there short the job. The trim includes the edges not just face. Anyone can spray the body and roll the face of the trim. Any painter that doesn't paint edge of trim is ripping off the customer and taking the easy quick way to finish the job.

  • @XCPainter

    @XCPainter

    Respectfully, not every house or job is the same... build style, quality, and scope of work desired are just a few variables. Many houses that I paint, do get the edges trimmed out. It's called French Cut. The biggest variables are what dimension and quality of trim materials, and what type of siding. Hardiplank, very extremely rarely gets French cut trim because the trim boards are usually thinner dimensions, and the caulking job that seals Hardiplank to trim is less than ideal to create nice lines. Impossible most cases. I just worked on a Victorian style home for 4 months this year which rightfully so deserved to have trim everywhere French cut, including edges of soffit, bellybands, window casing, cornerboards, and more. A large home I painted last year had a combination of siding materials and it also was French cut due to the build quality and scale of everything.

    @@XCPainter This house you are painting that we are talking about isn't an example not to French Cut. Plenty of edge exposed to paint. You took easy and fast way. Shorted the customer. Spin it all you want. I guarantee if you told owner about it and offered both ways, he would say French Cut. Looks soo much better and complete.

    @@crackerman3 absolutely disagree with that 100%. Every house is not a work of art. This was a very nice house but not styled to be French cut. It's a contemporary look which looks sharp actually Btw I was not the contractor in charge here but an employee. So.. not taking the easy way out. It's the smart and reasonable way to do it though. House is refreshed and protected, new colors and looking sharp.

    @@XCPainter I'm not ripping on your work. Looks like you do good work, but to say the house isn't styled to be French Cut is a weak argument. You painted the trim a different color than the body of house to add an accent color. I'm just saying, if you paint the trim a different color, paint the trim, the whole trim that color. Also, if you weren't the lead on the house, then it wasn't your call. You were following orders. Then he took the fast easy way out. That being said, I guarantee if the homeowner was shown an example of both painting the whole trim or just the face he would say French Cut. Also if you weren't the lead, then maybe you should start your own company. Looks like you are more then skilled. Make the big bucks and own decisions. Merry Christmas

    Because the trim texture is very rough and porous. Also allows for good and even coverage, fast. I would use a brush if it's faster or it requires a brushed finish. That's why.
