@@homefry4102showrunners confirmed that Erryk killed Arryk. The fight was confusing (in a good way) but it was only Arryk who suffered leg wounds. First on the right leg before he fell on the pot then on the left when ser Laurent entered the room.

Powerful wasn't it? You knew exactly what he was going to do as soon as he looked at his brother laid on the floor. Was a brilliant scene. I really wish they'd have padded the characters out more as it would have made this scene run a little deeper maybe. But loved this episode, the dialogues were up there with some of the early seasons of GoT.

No it’s definitely Erryk that kill’s himself. Writer confirmed it. Not only that, but watch it again… Arryk is the one that screams “you parted us…”. Then when he falls back he is in front or Rhaenyra and goes for the overhead slash, Erryk stabs him. Then kill’s himself

This is something the audience will never understand but in the book its made clear that the two brothers are leal to their respective leaders regardless of the cause... and that's the point, the tragedy, brothers killing brothers for a war they didn't even started due to the violence inherent in the system.

One of them tried to kill a member of the royal family, which is like the actual mission you have to fulfil to earn that cloak. Dude was between a rock and a hard place, but in the end he’s suppose to be loyal to the royal family (which also includes Rhaenyra) and not one cause. Especially since it wasnt Aegon that ordered it, it was Cole and Arryk followed his orders to save his own ass.

The order came from Criston, not Aegon who didnt know about it until later (and Arryk followed because he was scared of getting the blame for the killing of the prince) and Rhaenyra is a member of the royal family. Thats a double offense.

I remember what princess Shireen said about the dance of the dragon. "Their fight divided the kingdom into two brothers fight brothers, dragons fight dragons by the time it's over thousands were dead"

To those wondering why they just didn’t fight, they are supposed to be the antithesis to Sr Crispin and cherish their honor and duty above all. The opposing force of brotherly love while the second most important thing to them was not enough the besmirch their honor. It’s such a heartbreaking scene.

I found this episode to be hit and miss. Every scene was well done, and the Otto or Rhaenyra scenes were spectacular. But I thought it jumped about too much, especially with the unnecessary Aemond and Hugh Hammer scenes. Save that for next episode.

Because they butchered Cole's character. He's supposed to represent bits of both the best and worst kings guard, as Jaime says in the book. But Ryan hates him like D&D hated Stannis, so will continue to ruin his character until everyone cheers for his death.

Agreed and they both wounded each other in the leg. Erryk wounded first and Arryk wounded shortly after. You can even see the blood on his pants leg where he was cut when he apologies if you look toward the area.

One of the best scenes so far.. This made me feel like I was watching GoT for the 1st time again, bravo

the book says that this fight was immortalized in legends as an epic duel between two close brothers, who proclaimed their love for one another with their dying breaths. It then says that this was most likely not how it really happened, and that it was probably actually a bitter tooth and nail fight, where one became fatally wounded but still chose to shank his opponent with his dagger out of spite. I really like how the show rejected the cynicism of the book and went even harder in the "Shakespearean tragedy" direction by having Erryk win, only to choose to fall on his sword.

I mean to be fair, I don't know that they give full Credence to the tooth and nail bloody brawl either, because that account comes from mushroom, who was Rhaneras fool, his accounts are usually mentioned but not given much credence, because he's a horny dwarf who's insane, I do agree with you though, I also find that it's kind of a mix of both interpretations, because it starts as a sword fight where brothers are evenly matched, and devolves into an out-and-out brawl

Can we all just take a second to praise how badass and amazing Erryk was this ep?? Stepping in to save Rhaenyra twice, not a second thought even though it was his brother trying to kill her? He done his job and then some. He gave everything he had to make sure Rhaenyra was safe, that was his top priority. It was only after he knew she was safe that he ended it due to the guilt, a true Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Hats off to Elliot and Luke Tittensor (Erryk and Arryk) and Emma D'Arcy (Rhaenyra) for some phenomenal acting during the scene!

Ser Lorent really 'spedrun' through his armour. My man came in with nothing but his sword in hand after what, two minutes after being dismissed from his post?

"That was fucked up." Exact words I just used to describe this scene, holy.

The Line "Where is duty, where is sacrifice?" comes to mind watching these two. They loved each otehr but their duty and king's guard was stronger they didnt hesitate to defend their belief and it's so so sad cause they died for people that wont even care. I loved how they didnt use an epic score for this scene just the sound of sword clashing and despair from everyone in that room.

This is what happens to good and honourable men in the world of GOT.

He said “your grace” that’s an indicator of which brother was which. Also, one brother(A) has a clean part in his hair and the other(E) one has a slightly thinning hairline. The shots of their faces while they fight are cut off at the hairline.

No if you see closely, the protector was killed. It was the assassin who said "your grace". Makes sense coz earlier in the episode he talked of how his brother and him had one soul- even when the Assassin brother enters he says "believe, I don't wanna do this" or smth. It's the assassin who realised what he's done and kills himself

@@megha9789 Yeah the assassin slashed the protector's right leg. Later, the assassin is being choked and digs his fingers into the cut to get the protector off. The protector is then stabbed through the torso and so it's the assassin who decides to kill himself instead of finishing the job. Shows that the brothers didn't really care as much about the conflict, only honor and duty. Which they both upheld until the very end. This was the only outcome where both get to keep their honor as Kingsguard.

I really don't like how the show adapted Criston Cole. In the book, he was just as vile but he was also a great warrior, a competent military commander and a very seasoned political player. The show stripped those dimensions away from him and he's very one dimensional now as the result.

Me and my brother watched this scene together, We gave each other a look after as to say “you die I die”. This scene ran true when it comes to brothers. Made me emotional without any background music or any big emotional aftermath of their deaths. Just left me feeling abit shaken. Well done HotD. ❤😢

The fact everyone’s arguing who killed who is hilarious to me. The whole point was that it was supposed to be ambiguous who was who. Not even the characters knew, and it’s a moot point, they both died.

Cole is a false knight. Erryk and Arryk's beards have more honor than Criston Cole. Cant wait for him to be unalive.

It is wild to me that there is any debate over which twin killed who when it is clearly demonstrated by a single line of dialogue: “We were born together. You parted us!” This line makes no sense coming from Erryk. It is he who fled King’s Landing to join up with the opposing side. Erryk left, not Arryk. Erryk gets free during the struggle, Arryk moves toward him after recovering and is impaled on Erryk’s sword. Erryk, in his grief, apologises to his Queen before killing himself.

I like that it's difficult for the audience to distinguish at a glance which is which. It's amazing symbolism for what the Dance is: a family tearing itself apart. It ties in with Viserys' obsession with family cohesion and love.

We get banger after banger each episode, talk about fantastic pacing. The "Rat catchers" and the "Twin battle" were absolute highlights in the books, that they include both in the first two episodes surprises me. At this rate they would be aiming for three seasons, maybe four. I love it

It definitely isn't that but it really was a memorable minor character death like when Yoren died trying to fight off the Lannister soldiers or Luwin stabbed by the Ironborn. I feel people forget how impactful Ned being decapitated was. Killing off your main character in the first season was unheard of and it was one of the major reasons why GoT became the cultural zeitgeist it did.

Arryk last words of “I still love you brother” is no doubt one of the many factors that played on Ser Erryk taking his own life. Haunting words to remember, and more haunting to live with.

Ngl I absolutely loathed Criston when I read Fire and Blood,but Fabien has somehow made him even more despicable in HoTD God I want Caraxes to turn him into a chew toy 😂

Would have been a fitting end for him for sure but if I remember rightly spoiler alert, he’s shot full of arrows is he not? Definitely one thing I’d love them to change in the show though

@@Spadzz98 spoiler alert I swear in the book they said he cut the guys throat or threw him out the window so him killing the council member is in line with the book they made it more like an accident if anything, but yeah the whole alicent thing is just for the show but gives both characters more depth and the way they make him project his own self hatred on others is fantastic writing, I hope they do make his death more climactic and I’m here for it too lol who knows how it will pan out in the show that’s what makes the show so interesting from a book readers POV Some things will change and hopefully for the better!

@@Jamesmac95 I actually think that's a fitting ending **SPOILERS** One of Criston's main obsessions (in both show and book) is to be seen as this honorable knight. By refusing him the heroic ending that he so clearly craves (he challenges the leaders of that army to a 1v3 fight) you take that away from him and he dies unremarkable. There's a reason the final quote they say is "No songs will be written about you"

For those who are confused about who is who: Erryk was the one who said that they were born together while Arryk said that he parted them, Highlighting to Erryk joining the blacks. So Erryk killed Arryk and then himself.

Imagine he says "your grace, forgive me!" and stabs himself with a spring loaded dagger and falls. Rhaenyra runs towards him shouting "NOOOoooOOo!!!" and he stands up and beheads her, revealing he was indeed the Imposter and not the Crewmate.

One word for this scene "sentimental". 🥺😭

The twin that died first was Rhaenyra’s protector. The slash on the leg that the assassin grabs is what gives it away.

I think it was Erryk who killed Arryk then himself. They both slashed each other on the leg. Ser Erryk wounded first at 1:53 and Ser Arryk wounded at 2:17

In the book it was Arryk who dies first too. Erryk doesn't kill himself in the book though, he dies from his wounds days later.

Ser Erryk was a man of strength and honor killing your twin brother to save the rightful Queen and he ask forgiveness before ending his life cause he couldn't live knowing what he had done

scene had me feeling very emotional

The saddest part of this for me was what looked like the "embrace" between the two. Even in the midst of everything.

This episode was one of the best episode in the entire series

The clanging of the swords and the sounds are amazing

This was epic asf the first time I saw it. Brutal.

When a war causes 2 loving twins to take up arms against each other and cut each other down, you know that no matter how it ends, it wasn't worth it.

The entire episode was amazing with the acting.

The one with a wound on his right thigh is Erryk (Rhaenyra King's Guard) Arryk (Aegon's King's Guard) killed himself after being overcome by grief after killing his brother. "Forgive me" is directed to his brother, and for attempting to assassinate her.

Well for one thing, the showrunners said that arryk (the assassin) was the one that died and for two, the wounds are more than likely a continuity error, because the words "we were born together, you parted us"only really make sense coming from arryk, because Eric is the one who chose to leave King's landing, therefore he would be the one who parted them, even if the wounds are inconsistent (which can happen sometimes, I think it was intentionally confusing so that the audience could sit there and wonder who won, but the showrunners confirmed that the brother who was trying to protect his Queen was the one who won the fight)

After rewatching multiple times: I think it was Arryk(Greens) who "won" the duel against Erryk(Blacks). Erryk was cut on his right leg, Arryk was cut on his left. Arryk(Greens) dug into Erryk's right leg wound to free himself from the choke hold. Erryk(Blacks) recovered after falling, picked up his sword, went to attack Arryk(Greens), and then was killed by a thrust by Arryk.

And you can see Erryk's last move is to raise his sword, and Arryk stabbed him. Also, Arrick is the one with the back towards the wall from when he dug his hand in Erryk's wound until they get up for the final blow. Anyone can say Erryk won, but what the editing and the filmmaking is showing us is that Arryk was the one who killed his brother. Then sadly took his own life, realizing this pointless war made him kill his own twin. Part of him he couldn't live knowing how far he went and why he's no longer of this world. Anyways, cheers from France! 🍻

⁠What the filmmaking shows us is that Erryk won. After they both collapse on the floor, Erryk stands up facing the table as Arryk circles around having it now behind him. Then they fight and Erryk cuts Arryk and pushes him on the table. Arryk pushes back and then after a short struggle, pushes Erryk towards the wall. Arryk gets pushed back and gets stabbed after standing up. The scene would make no sense if Arryk was the one who lived. Why would he even call Rhaenyra "Your Grace" after just killing his brother out of his loyalty to Aegon? And earlier, why would Erryk accuse Arryk of parting when he was the one to do it?

@@Jericho2488 I'm not (although I'm not sure now which one gets pushed on the table, they do some trick shots there to confuse you). It was officially confirmed by the showrunner and the actors that Erryk was the last one standing. Also, in the BTS for the episode the choreographer explained that wounds are not a clue because they both receive the same ones. He even specifically pointed out Erryk's leg wound and how it won't tell you the truth.

It was Arryk who killed Erryk. Him turning to Rhaenyra asking for forgiveness is a reference to the source when he prayed and ask for forgiveness before setting out on his mission. On a more obvious note, Erryk got hit on the leg and punched on the right side of his head. You can see that the brother who got stabbed had a bloody upper right part of his head.

Joffrey Baratheon: Vicious and idiotic. Crispin Cole: Vicious, idiotic, greedy, lewd, irresponsible, and hypocritic.

This was so hard to watch. I also love how intense and heavy their swings were vs other fight scene or GOT. To me it really emphasizes how much these two set themselves apart in shear strength and experience.

When I tell you I felt emotional when luk died I felt emotional I didn’t cry but this right here broke my heart because neither of them despite the sides they were on were bad. They just felt differently about each side and was loyal to their sides. Unfortunately this was the ending💔💔💔

I was finding this "twins on different sides of a war very engaging". Well, so much for that, i think.

I was expecting some kickass music for this scene but I think no music is perfect for this moment.

Arryk killed erryk. Erryk has a right leg wound, arryk has left leg. When Arryk digs into Erryk's wound, Erryk falls towards Rhaenyra. Erryk then crawls and picks up a sword and swings at arryk but gets stabbed.

Please stop paying attention to the leg wounds and pay attention to the dialogue, who gets wounded in what scene can be inconsistent, but considering this fight started with aryk ( green supporter) proclaiming that his brother was the traitor, and ends with the murdered twin making the statement that "you parted us"it only makes sense that the one trying to protect his Queen was the one who survived, the wounds may be inconsistent but the dialogue makes it clear, that arryk died first ( because eryk was the one who left King's landing and therefore would be doing The parting)

I genuinely don’t understand why people are complaining about this season being “slow”. Why? Because dragons aren’t fighting in big cgi battles? The past two episodes have been nuts.

These last two episodes have been the best thing in tv right now maybe followed by the boys, fuck the acolyte though man, we get hour and a half episodes on max but Disney can't be bothered to have an episode past 25 minutes? Gross 🤮

You know when I frist watch these I was hoping lord commander Westerling would appear to save her, and know that isn't what happened in the books but come on it would have been awesome.

No one will probably read this comment but i think those who say arryk won are right, asides of the injury on erryks leg there is the fact despite them being twins erryk (Elliot tittensor) has fuller sideburna than his brother arryk ( Luke tittensor) and if you've seen pictures of them luke is a bit shorter than his Elliot, so can see it in the end when he looks at rhaenyra he's sideburns aren't as full as erryks, also i think i might have misspelled the actors last name, (never mind I've corrected😅)
