For awareness, King Viserys hasn't slept with Alicent. They've only talked in his chambers. In this show, when characters have slept together, it's very direct. Nothing left to interpretation or guessing lol

Hm… then, why is Alicent wearing the very same dress as the previous day in the Council Room? The show does not make this type of mistake… it’s subtle but deliberate. And of course, Viserys immediately asked for her hand to her father the next day, because she is a noble woman and he is a man of honor. This is why Alicent looks so nervous and Otto so happy.

King Viserys and lady Aliscent wouldn't have had sex in episode one, for two main reasons : First, he had just lost his wife and was obviously in grief, and second, they're not married. What would it look like if she became pregnant? What a shame it would be. Plus, that kid would be a bastard, so he would not be considered has legitimate heir.

I find it Adorable that it is confirmed that Caraxes (Daemons dragon) was singing love songs to Syrax (Rhaenyra's dragon) quite a cute thing!

both alicent and rhaenyra are between 15-16 yrs old in the show during this episode (in the book their ages were different) , also NO alicent didn't have sex with the king as that would practically ’ruin’ her in that time period having sex out of wedlock is a HUGE frickin deal, Lastly, no alicent doesn't want to be queen, she has no love for a higher position, but she was doing what she was doing out of duty and according to the orders of her father (otto) poor alicent :(

This episode is six months after the first episode so NO, Alicent didn't sleep with the King then. NO Alicent is not pregnant in this episode! They HAVE very much just been talking at this point.

Rhaenyra is one of the few people Daemon actually listens too. Otto was about to leave Dragonstone as ashes if it wasn't for her. That scene was a great moment in the season.

To answer Sam about Aerys the Mad King: the Mad King was actually a pretty rational guy for most of his reign. Then he was taken hostage and held in a castle by enemy forces. His troops were ready to sacrifice him and leave him to torture and death due to the risks involved in trying to get him out alive. One knight, Barristen Selmy (the old knight in GoT that ran from Westeros and switch sides to Daenerys later on), rescued him all on his own like a baller. But Aerys was never the same after that and grew super paranoid and ruthless, that’s when he became the Mad King (not excusing his behavior though that mf went full tilt crazy).

I think someone poisoned Aerys with the poison that makes people have hallucinations. Also they drugged him with milk of the poppy to help him with heal and with his ptsd.

I have no idea why you think Alicent and Vizzy were having sex. You literally watched them talking yet you randomly made up something that wasn't even implied.

I thought the scene between Viserys and little Lady Laena (who is 12, not 8) was very well done. In different directorial hands, with different writers, it could have been over-melodramatic or sensationalized. It was sensitively done, the performances of the young actress (who I believe was 12 at the time of the filming) and the great Mr. Considine were perfect, conveying the absurdity and 'ick' factor behind the girl's beautiful outfit and her pretty speech. No matter how she's presented, and Laena is packaged like a gorgeous little doll, like a scaled-down version of Marie-Antoinette, and comes across as a bright and poised young lady, she is still a child, regardless of whether she has officially passed puberty. You can see, via Viserys' expressions, that he is very uncomfortable with the situation; he is trying to be polite; Laena is his cousin and he does not want to hurt her feelings or insult her parents (since he knows she will report their conversation) by an unkind word, but this potential marriage is not what he wants. He can barely put even a slight smile on his face; and he manages that much, I think, to be kind to the child. His heart and mind are probably screaming that it doesn't matter that Laena Velaryon is the best match in the world for him, politically speaking, Viserys cannot think of marrying this tiny little girl, even if he waits two or three years to consummate the marriage. He just can't go there. Alicent isn't much older (in the show, she's 15), but she is physically mature, almost completely grown to womanhood, and looks to be capable of having sexual relations and pregnancy without endangering her life. Plus, Viserys already has formed an emotional bond with Alicent - he likes her; he feels comfortable with her, and that is half the battle. He may never come to love her, but he can appreciate and respect and like her, and be at ease with her.

the legal age of adulthood in Westeros is 16...in the books. The TV show says it's 18 in the TV verse. But girls can marry younger if they've already started menstruating and can have children. Daenerys marries at 14 in the books, at 16 in the TV show.

To be fair to Princess Rhaenyra and spite the Queen Who Never Was, being a cupbearer was a high ranking of the royal court because the king trusts you to deliver drinks which can easily be poisoned.

I mean even a dolt would know by now that Daemon truely loves his brother and Rhaenyra.

Daemon was just trying to get his attention; Otto has watched attentively and knew thus yet, he told King Viserys he would be in danger if he went personally to see his brother which is not true. Otto keeps them apart because he has planned out carefully how he would get his bloodline on the throne. Nothing he does is truly for the realm it is for his own personal gains. The man pimped out his daughter to the king. Why do you think Otto recommended Viserys name Rhaenyra as heir? He felt the realm would never go for it and he was trying to Viserys to impregnate his daughter, he felt getting them married would secure his bloodline sit the throne. Daemon is a spoiled brat that feels he doesn’t get enough of his brother’s attention as clearly displayed when he took the egg. Daemon is despicable but he loves his family including Rhaenyra. You ladies are correct, the more prudent choice would have been for Viserys to marry Laena Velaryon although she was very young. He was pretty much disgusted at the possibility of marrying a child and he wanted to marry for love; by Otto pimping his daughter out to him, he had time to fall for her which was Otto’s plan. Corlys should had betrothed his son Laenor to Rhaenyra rather than his daughter Laena to Viserys. With everyone playing the game of thrones, everyone tries to outmaneuver one another so do they truly care about the realm?

The subtext in these interactions with her and Viserys, the nervous nail scratching thing she does and all, was slum dunk. Quite a few sad and conflicting bits. Lots to unpack. Like Alicent Otto scene before Dragonstone.

Its not because Viserys is dying off of cuts from the Iron Throne, its because his cuts are not healing due to him suffering from leprosy

As far as I know the dragon egg is unfortunately a prop and not real. It would be cruel to take an egg from a dragons nest especially when they are endangered.

The opening sequence shows the family symbols with blood flowing through the family tree. Watch closely as this season progresses to see the changes when one lord or another dies.

The intros do change and they also the blood represent the blood lines!

Btw daemon wasn’t in the wrong for choosing that egg even if he was having A kid, baelon died so the egg isn’t his they were just emotional about this

5:33 Rhaenyra is now the heir to the Iron Throne and no one on the council respects her and just see it in the scene, Otto cut Rhaenyra when she was talking and Viserys did nothing in that situation If it was Daemon he is already shutting everyone up, mainly from Otto, in the scene with Rhaenys it's Rhaenyra everything Rhaenys said to Rhaenyra is true, Rhaenyra is heir to the Iron Throne and even so she continues to give them wine, but the truth is she's participating in the council, but like Rhaenys said they won't want a woman Viserys shouldn't have married Alicent he made a wrong choice and now there will be consequences for his choice, viserys should have married Laena in the book she is At least Rhaenyra's age different from the series they put a child I don't know why they did that Probably to be more controversial because it's a child, but either way he should have chosen Laena and not Alicent and you'll realize his choice was a mistake when you watch the rest of the episodes.

Nah its they other way around caraxes is way bigger and bloodthirsty than syrax everyone on that bridge would've died if daemon said the word but he loves rhaenyra so they were lucky.

Alicent is 16 and it is a big difference between 12 and 16 12 is a kid before puberty, 16 at that time was almost an adult

2nd mistake choose alicent over Laena

Lord Corlys Velaryon was pimping his daughter to the King. Ser Otto chose to be subtle when pimping his daughter to the King. While I don't think Viserys got Alicent pregnant, I do think they had sex the night before he announced he was going to marry her. She was wearing the same dress as the day before.

Pre-Industrial revolution there were not many 'schools' as we know it today, nor were there laws that obligated children and teens to go to school up to a certain age. In many cases children would work and/or do what their parents do to supplement the income. Because of the culture, economic situation, political situation...etc, many times when people would marry (especially in the political/palace life), there would be huge age gaps - due to the fact that marriage was more like a requirement and a sort of pact/alliance/joining of families. Refusal could literally cause wars (as is the risk in this show). I personally wouldn't condone this in today's circumstances/culture/laws/level of modernity/govt institutions that financially support people...etc, but back then it was a super normal thing. ps, i think there are some very rare circumstances where maggots and leeches are used lol

They are victims of a patriarchal society who turn to be really power-hungry and act privileged and hurt innocent people in their wake. The book is written by biased maesters yes, but they have not shown people like Aemond, Daemon, Aegon, Dalton, etc in heroic light. The bias comes against the Targaryens because they had dragons. It's not about men vs women, but more about how history shows winners and losers. And to say, Alicent and Rhaenyra are good people after what they did later in the war is stupid.

It's so frustrating watching ppl blame Otto for "pImping out his daughter" when pretty much every noble marriage in Westeros was arranged. What other choice did he have? Like yeah, Otto is guilty of finding the best prospect for his daughter instead of marrying her off to a fisherman lol. That would be the duty of any man in a medieval feudal monarchy. Rhaenyra's position gave her the security to do whatever tf she wanted. Others like Alicent didn't have that luxury. "It's Otto's fault he married his daughter to the king cause the king's daughter might get jealous & paranoid" is not the ownage of Otto ppl think it is. It speaks more about the character of the daughter. Mfs have no understanding of basic politics blaming Otto for everything, thinking it would be sunshine & daisies if Viserys married Laena as if Corlys didn't spend his whole life complaining about the Great Council stealing his wife's throne. You switch Otto with the head of any ambitious noble house and the outcome is the same. The issue wasn't Otto or Corlys or anyone. It was a weak king making a bold & unpopular decision that he had no power to enforce.

Alicent is suppose to be around 17-19 years old in the book at least, and they truly haven’t done anything besides talk. Sex before marriage for highborn lady’s ruins their status. And Otto knew this, he knows Viserys is a genuinely nice person and could prey on his emotions just like Daemon said would happen…
