I hate it too. I feel like dragons develop certain bonds with their owners. Anyone who has a pet can feel that bond. That's why it sucks to watch dragons die.

The saddest part is that Vhagar was the dragon of Rhaenys' daughter for so many years! She associates that dragon with her beloved child. Maelys and Vhagar probably even spent a lot of time together in Driftsmark.

Can't leave, she was sent to protect the castle. Although meleys can't kill vhagar, she is capable of fleeing from vhagar if needed. She died because vhagar's rider happened to be smarter.

This is what absolutely killed me about the fight scene. She carelessly flew low, not knowing where the largest dragon alive is, over the exact spot that she previously used to cover her approach. It was careless and it hurt that her character came to an end in such a way. Rhaenys was my favorite.

She was my 2nd favourite character. One of the most wise.. she was queen. I hate Aemond now.. I hate him

Still don’t know where vhaegar biggest dragon alive at that time is able to sneak into a position to strike the killing blow without anyone noticing. In the books, aemond had a whole 2-3 minute fight with rhaenys on his dragon where both dragons sustained injuries(vhaegar to a small extent but still) before vhaegar struck the killing blow and that’s without talking about it was an 2 on 1 dragon fight with sunfyre also involved and rhaenys being the one who shot sunfyre down before vhaegar struck the killing blow

She just can burn a lot and break things because of her size. And she's intimidating. The entire point of this was to cripple her. And she is harmed in this battle. She was ripped open. And again, she's OLD. This is the last fight against a dragon that Vhagar is successful in.

One of the best episodes in the entire franchise.

I hated this scene. Cole should be dead not Rhaenys and her dragon. She is one of my favorite characters.

I cried when she died. I loved her character.

"Meleys attack." Rhaenys was a ganster. Crippled the King and his dragon, gave Vhaegar a run for her money, and still stood on business.

she's the worst character if you think about it. Could have stopped the traitors from taking her family's throne, doesn't (but kills a bunch of innocent people), then could have escaped twice but turns back to face 1v2 against the biggest/scariest dragon of all. Terrible writing. She's a dumb character, thanks writers. Dragons are pretty valuable, but I guess she wanted to go out a "dragon riders death" LOL

I agree. In the books, she stood against 2 v 1 as both vhaegar and sunfyre were waiting for her in the sky. The 3 were entangled in a battle to the death with only aemond emerging relatively unscathed. I think she died a more well fought battle in the books than having both dragon and ride make decisions that doomed them both.

Sunfyre is alive for now(he dies much later from his injuries in this battle and two separate battles he takes part in towards the end of the war (both of which he won)but by that time war was pretty much over)

Contrived deaths are for GoT Seasons 4-8, HotD is supposed to be a serious show & they already had the Last Jedi / Clark Griswold comedy of errors that led to Prince Lucery's death in Season 1, rather than Aemond just being a strong character that doesn't just fall into convenient situations

@@PeteyWells I also think because of the size and age she must be slower, so actually should struggle against faster, smaller opponents. So she compensates with wits. Of course we are used to stereotypes, so big must mean going tank and berserk etc. but i sort of like that they made her differently.

I said this on another video as well that this was one big tragedy.Vhagar and Meleys once belonged to Prince Baelon and his wife Alyssa(parents to Viserys and Daemon). The dragons spent quite the time together because of the couple.

I still don't understand how the biggest dragon in the show has 2 kills from snack attacks. How can you miss that large ass dragon?

For me, Vahgar is way to big and heavy to be that agile and stealthy in a fight

Didn't read them either, but I'm assuming it's because her job was to protect Rook's Rest to the best of her ability. That meant going back and trying to get rid of Vhager and Aemond, even though I'm sure she knew it was a suicide mission. Even Daemon said it would've taken both of them to kill Vhager at King's Landing early on. Also, she used the excuse that it wasn't her place to start a war when she could've toasted the entire Green clan during Aegon's coronation AND she could've gone with Daemon to King's Landing and killed Vhager, but didn't get involved a second time. Suppose she figured she's all outta excuses for not finishing the job.

Went out like a badass. Can’t wait to see how Aegon looks next episode.

That's the one of the most fascinating deaths I have ever seen in tv history including jax teller and Walter white

Caught a preview of the next episode and it looks like he survived ala Anakin Skywalker style...maybe? So bummed. He was pretty much useless.

This show is amazing for the emotional impact it leaves on viewers and the different levels of sympathy you can feel for the different characters, I think at some point in the show I’ve felt sorry for all of them, but in this particular episode as Meleys and Rhaenys are some of my favourites, I hated Aemond with a passion

rhaney shouldn't fight a huge vhagar that has 160 years of war experience. She should have left and came back with more dragons to whoop vhagars butt. smh

She was an amazing Dragon Rider and Warrior that was a true Dragon that will be very much missed. She is very much like the Queen of Thorns a fierce grandma.

her death served a purpose. it was a wake up call for rhaenyra that there is now war without casualties without death. she could have escaped and even kill aegon when the dude hit the ground but still her sacrifice was mean to motivate rhaenyra to fight for the throne.

I want to see episode 1-3 first

I know they needed to do this for the story to progress and I'm okay with that. What I didn't like is how dumb strategically it is to fly so close to the castle. For a battle-hardened dragon Rider this makes absolutely zero sense and is insulting

On the upside, at least we don't have to hear Rhaenys lecture about how killing is so wrong and how she could never kill another mother after genociding a bunch of innocent peasants at the temple crushing them under her dragon and the collapsing walls during her escape. Her book counterpart was so much more compelling by comparison.

Heres a fun fact: Meleys was the only dragon capable of beating Vhagar in a fair 1v1 because of her size and her also being the fastest dragon. If they had seen Vhagar coming it would have been a different story

How is something as big as vahagar always sneak attacking without seeing it. Maybe since the dragon has been alive for so long that’s the way vahagar chooses to fight since it has combat experience already or maybe aemond flys him sneakily.

i think plot will bill different , In the tv series lady catelyn stark died at the hands of house frey but in the book she came back to life under the name lady stoneheart and hunted down one by one the members of house frey who were involved in the murder of his son Rob stark.

I hate that she died without knowing the truth about her son's survival.

They nailed the dragons, even sunfyre that we had never really seen before is full of life and personality, you could feel his youth and bond to aegon. Such an improvement over Dany’s dragons. Hurts to see them die like this

Sunfyre was so pretty and had the cutest roar. Rhaenys didnt strap in untill vahgar pulled up. That was her prize, she was either goijng to die or bring aemonds corpse to rhanyra.

Felt cheated on this one, no ripped off wing, sunfyre was the one to do the dance free fall, also made zero points to Aemond to burn Aegon…he’s been in his bros corner since day one

Aegon was kinda dumb to try to kill his brother because now it’s literally a 1v4 with him and the other dragon riders instead of what could have been a 2v4
