From the looks of it they had a well involved garage fire with extension to the attic. Initial line pulled to base of fire while getting a game plan and manpower in order. Then line transitions interior to cut off fire spread and roof is cut to aid in the same. Blast of water exits roof as soon as hole is punched so we know they were pulling ceiling and cutting off the attic fire. To say they "burned it down" is a stretch. Could a second line of gotten to the garage during interior ops? Maybe, don't know what all was going on. Would it have made a difference, probably not, garage was already lost focus on search and cutting it off. And when is it a problem to ask a resident if everyone is out? That doesn't mean we don't search, it's just a valid question.First line went interior at 2:42, but we have no idea who else may have already been inside to search and close door to garage. All I know is the bashing of fellow firefighters is way different than learning from what we PERCEIVE to be a poorly fought fire. Use it, learn from it, do "better" than they did, but the "brotherhood" displayed in the comments section is disgusting. In my 20 year career I have been first due on 5 decent fires. That's right 5. I've been to other fires, but first due and in charge 5. I train, study, attend classes, lay awake at night thinking about what I will do on a run, saturate myself in the trade as much as I can and none of it will compare to making calls. You have no control over how many fires you get in a career, that's up to the municipality you work in. Do I think they all went perfect? HELL NO. I made mistakes, I hope you never make the mistakes I did, I know I never will again. I'll make new ones, and I hope I live to learn from those as well. I'm envious of those of you who have apparently made more jobs in a day then I have in a career and made no mistakes while doing so. I'm off to hand in my resignation because I'm not worthy to wear the uniform. I will add this, I noticed one of the guys had a Piglet on his waist. This tells me a few things. 1. He has great taste in tools 2. He obviously spends time learning and being proactive and open to new concepts. So even if they don't see many fires in Salinas, I have no idea what their volume is, some of their members are committed to the trade and that is to be respected.

I am a trained firefighter and there are a number of assclowns that are posting pejorative commentary. Is the attack perfect no, is it a total fail also no. There are also a number of factors that KZread videos do not show for example time of ignition to time of discovery. How long from time of discovery to the time alarm is raised to have the FD respond. The distance the fire crews had to travel from the hall to the scene. All of these the firefighter has no control over. Now for the on scene response one firefighter trying to speed up water to the fire exceeded his abilities and had to stop and regain control which he did. That same firefighter must have had some experience as he was used to transition from an exterior defensive posture and cooling the fire to an aggressive interior fire attack. That line was also replaced by a larger 2.5 inch soon after. Fire was discovered in the attic and vertical venting is being performed

The initial attack on the garage should never have been abandon. The majority of the fire was in the garage and extending into the attic above the garage. With very little smoke showing from any other part of the structure they should have continued the attack on the garage and let the responding units enter the structure to pull the ceiling and search for the fire. Instead the entered the structure and allowed the garage and attic space above the garage to reignite, putting themselves in danger.

Brutal Bear transitional attack. I only see the one line going to work, so the thought process knocks the bulk, then move the interior to stop spread into the residence. Then when the second line comes in, they can continue to hit the problem areas in the garage while the interior crews continue to operate inside the residence. I'm not a fan of transitional attacks, except for the instances of garage fires.

But I am also confused as to why the first nozzle firefighter didn't just get everything on at one time, and then start hitting the fire, instead of hitting the fire, stopping to put one glove on. Hitting the fire, stopping to put the other one on. Hitting the fire, stopping to advance. Hitting the fire, stopping to advance again. But the way people kept talking to him, I’m assuming this may be his first fire. He was very jumpy in his movements

roguejeff1 attached garage fires are problematic for a multitude of reasons. Vehicles, flammable liquids, operating equipment, and stupidity. In America, every fire of significance is supposed to be investigated. The information is collected in a national database. This is how many product recalls originate. Several years ago, there was an auto maker that identified a faulty circuit that was attributed to starting thousands of fires nationwide. Stay safe.

@@jasonwilliams3223 I have been in the service for 23 years Jason and although it wasn't all bad to say it was an excellent attack is rather poor. Firstly the seat of the fire is clearly in the garage so if you deal with the seat there is a fair chance that you will gain control. the smoke which is pushing out of the opposite end of the garage is venting fairly well and has not flashed over so that tells you that it has not reached that point and is being pushed through the roof void by the pressure created from the fire in the garage which has gone through the garage ceiling. Had they had carried on hitting the fire in the garage with the initial hoseline and put an internal crew inside with the 2nd hoseline you will find they would have got things sorted much quicker. As soon as they started knocking down the fire in the garage the steam created would have filled the whole roof void smothering the fire and cooling the temperatures so the internal spread in the rest of the house would have been limited.. There was no need to put crews on the roof to vertical vent as if you look at the video the roof is venting from the top of the pitch roof over the garage and the window at the far end so there is no need to put guys on a roof and in danger that they don't need to be in. Stay safe people.

A deck gun from the first in engine on the garage could've greatly reduced the damage to the home, I suspect. Not sure why so many departments are reluctant to use the water cannon in situations where water supply isn't an immediate issue. They had supply lines run, so I suspect hydrants were nearby.

What a clown act. Putting out the fire was second or third, maybe fourth on the to-do list. They gave the fire more than it's fair chance to destroy everything. The rookie that first put water in the garage had no idea what to do, or next. Bust a hole in the roof so the fire there had a chance to breathe and spread... why wasn't water available at the time the roof was breached? I thought firemen were trained what to do to actually put out a fire ASAP?? I guess they figured the house was toast anyway, so what if it's burned? Yea, a true clown act, I'm glad I don't live in Salinas.

Don't need to be an expert. ANY reasonable person could see the milling around, no sense of co-ordination at actually putting out the fire. So many firemen and so little being done to actually extinguish the fire. They eventually got around to it but the delays were stunning, no urgency whatsoever. If my house was on fire these are the LAST guys I want showing up to put it out. The neighbors with garden hoses would have been more effective.

Google User I have a strong suspicion you’ve never fought a fire in your life, and if you have, I highly doubt you’d be any better. Do I know that for sure? Not at all. Just a strong suspicion. Was this a well oiled operation? Not necessarily, but we also don’t know all the circumstances either. How do you know how many of those guys are new and needed more guidance? This could’ve been the first fire for a few of them. If you ARE a firefighter, were YOU “well oiled” on YOUR first fire? The skippers could’ve given them a little more guidance, sure, but they were putting a lot of heart into it. I know, heart doesn’t put fires out, but with time, experience and hopefully sitting down and learning from incidents they work, they’ll make great firefighters.

It would be a waste if the situation didn’t dictate that tactic, but it did. Well involved attached garage with fire in the cockloft on arrival. The layout was perfect for a vertical.
