HOUDINI FX TD SHOWREEL 2022 - Nabil Jabour
Hey all !
Here's my Junior FX reel !
After 3 years of learning Houdini (self-taught), and 2 years of experience in the industry, I can finally build a reel that I'm proud of.
It contains a mix of personal and pro projects.
In that order :
1) Massive Explosion Project (2021) : Just a personal project. Full breakdown available in my channel.
2) Train Smoke (2019) : My first production project during my internship at Benuts (Belgium).
3) Cigarette (2020) : Personal project. Full breakdown in my channel.
4) The Shadow in My Eyes (2020-2021) : My first big project in production. Had to do a lot of procedural modeling (alongside Bruno Pollet who was the lead of the project). Also some plane FXs.
Can't show all the shots because I still don't have access to them. What you see is from the movie trailer.
5) The Call - League of Legends (2021) : Did a lot of magic FX. Had a lot of fun ! Company is Unit Image and the client is Riot Games. #Riot #Lol #League #Legends #clip

There's one major mistake in this reel. The title. This ain't Jr. work my man. It's outstanding. "Houdini FX reel 2022 - Nabil Jabour" more like it.

Have spent probably 2 months all together trying to find a website or video that has or shows several hundred or more procedurally or randomly generated land vehicles. Maybe someone on Houdini...

Amazing work!!! I've always been weak at making magic FX... I want to know, is 1:05 there the polygons with many many primitives? so the noise applied there looks without gaps. And what attributes did you use to determine the color and intensity ramp? and 0:50 there the smoke-liked magic, I think is very very cool! how can I re-do that? is pyro sim or the particles? Thanks

Thanks ! For 1:05 , its a noise driven bu uv and yes there's quite the amount of points ! Like 150K points in total i think. The noise is used for the color and the intensity ramp. There's also an "intensit by height" ramp. at 0:50 , its a particle sim using pop curve force + pop force. Nothing else ! I have around 60M particles.

@@beardirty6081Sorry for the wait! Been very busy lately. Still planned though. I use a regular turbulentNoiseVOP running through the UVs instead of P. The noise type was Simplex !

@@njfx Yes, I also use uv, but I tried many times and finally chose original noise. Thanks for your advice, I will try simplex noise again.

@@beardirty6081 Except for Perlin and Alligator, any noise should work. It's probably a matter of tweaking the correct frequency values in u and v.
Low key flexing with the "Junior" thing eh.
