HoTone Ampero Stomp 2 - This SURPRISED Me

Музыка

For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ I've been asked about this a ton. To be honest, I wasn't super interested as most of what I've seen from it seems to be paid demo stuff. So plugging it in for the first time today, and I was actually really surprised at the quality of the tones and variety of amp choices. The touchscreen is in my opinion the only part that is a bit funky, when moving stuff around the signal chain it can often completely change the order of blocks etc. Aside from that, this to me seems like a really good piece of kit?

Really glad you picked one of these up. Got mine on Reverb to throw in my carry on when I travel as I don't care for computer based plugins (bias, etc). Have been really pleased with it. It takes very little time to learn the touch screen interface (have never found the need to even download the software interface, whereas on Axe, Helix, and Kemper, I completely depend on the software interfaces), love the signal chain templates and the fact that you can move anything around in the signal chain as well as the scads of effects and amps. This is definitely a gigable device from a sound perspective. Lack of snapshots is a bit of a downer but hopefully can be added in the future. I prefer this to the HX stomp and while it is not in the same league as an Axe FX 3, which I also own, I think when you consider what you get for your money, it is very close. Looking forward to more videos!

I purchased one of these recently. I also own a quad cortex. Considering the price point and size, this thing holds its own. Pretty versatile and fun to play with, i also love how easy it is to use. Fairly straightforward. Worth the money in my opinion if you’re into the world of digital amps/modelers. Thanks for the qc videos, and now, thank you for the ampero videos too!

I've had mine since it was first released. Absolutely love it. It replaced my Fractal FM3, which sounded great but was sometimes difficult to use and couldn't do dual amps. My only 2 gripes were I wish the Ampero Stomp had more fuzz options, and the processing power is (understandably) limited. To the second point, I ended up offboarding my reverb and delay to discrete MIDI-controlled pedals and now I can do pretty much anything with the remaining processing power on the Ampero. I still haven't found a suitable solution for the first issue, especially since analog fuzz pedals tend to be temperamental in signal chains and with modelers, so here's hoping Hotone release more firmware updates with more models.

I have the original Hotone Ampero and prefer it to the Line 6 Helix and other similar modeling units. I recently released and album and all the guitar and bass tones are from using the Hotone Ampero recorded direct. The only pedals I used were the Boss SY-2, the Mel9, the EQD Afterneath and the Astral Destiny. I'm interested in getting the Ampero 2 as well. These units are very intuitive and user friendly. I've never consulted the manual.

OMG! My prayers have been answered 🙏 I bought one of these last week. HX stomp is very hard to get hold of here in NZ at the moment and over ‘twice’ the price. No kidding! Anyway In my naiveness I thought right, I’ll get one of these & I’ll set it up like Jonathan would an HX. (no litigator though! ohhh it’s a line 6 creation that’s why. Darn! Didn’t know that till later😅) I was finding it a little hard to figure out stuff with this stomp for a bit…as Amps & parameter names etc. were a bit different but this vid has helped a hell of alot! I’d been thinking geez be good if Jonathan looked into this latest one because I know you have looked at the others. I’d wonder what you’d think of it. I’ve been watching other KZreadrs and they’re really great people but they have their own style & approach! Anyway Low & behold Jonathan to the rescue! 🖐😅 Now I’m not alone. Thanks for the review! I’m pretty influenced by your logic & sound. A fan of your playing style for over 2 years now I think. You’re channel is my go to channel. Hey great sounding track and improvisation for this review by the way! Kudos!

Love mine! Its simple, easy, and sounds enormous. Fits in the front pocket of my guitar bag. Run it into the FX Loop of my Stageright 15 and its a killer budget rig that will hang with most drummers, and sound insane while doing so. My only complaints are that the volume jumps on my unit, just past noon. Also, the reverbs could be better. Finally, the software has this bug that still hasn't been fixed since launch, where if you touch anything on the floor unit, it will completely reload everything in the software. Its super annoying. But aside from that, the PC editor is actually very good. No other complaints. Also the touchscreen is generally far more intuitive than most other modelers (FM3 AHEM).

I got this modeller around new year when I got back into guitar. Something I like to do with just a serial, single amp patch is to choose a pre-amp block and pair it with a power-amp in the amp block. With the separate power amp you can choose the type of tube simulation, sag, etc. Sometimes I get a little bit more tactility when using it that way. BTW, there is an auto cab-matching option in GLOBAL>Controls> AUTO CAB MATCH. That can save some time fiddling around. The computer software is decent but it comes with a massive quirk in that it doesn't like you using the physical unit when using the software. As soon as you touch the unit (a button, or knob) the software needs to reinitialise again to be used, which is something everyone has complained about since launch. Pleasantly surprised that you picked this up. The things holding it back right now are DSP optimisation and maybe the absence of a scenes/snapshot function. Also, I can completely agree that the footswitching needs some work, especially with MIDI. I got the Ampero Control MIDI footswitcher and you can only program to blocks (A1,A2,A3, etc) instead of assigning it to RVB, RVB2, DLY, DLY2 which would be easier to use. Requires a lot of memorising and fiddling to get everything set up. Otherwise, the MIDI functionality is pretty good in my newbie estimation They're updating it more and more right now so hopefully it can be a serious competitor to the HX Stomp within a year. Cautiously optimistic. Although, if an HX Stomp 2 came out and had more features and more DSP, I'd probably trade up. (ALSO, HOLY SHIT THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME THIS HAS A HARMONISER)

Quick question: it seems there is a decent-looking editor app with the thing. Curious if you find that easier to work with that the touch screen (which looks a bit finicky in your videos). This thing is so convenient and can be carried around the house and just plugged in anywhere, effects are way off the LT (Can stick my HX effects in the loop though if needed) but amp models are on par...dare I say better. Personal preference I guess but it's now my go to thing for sitting down and noodling around with. I'd be interested to see what you could achieve combining it with the HX effects.

Battle of the Stomps coming soon I guess? It’s £60 cheaper than than the HX at Andertons, so not worth anyone switching and considering all the Helix knowledge and patches out there, perhaps not even for a noob

Maybe, I guess there's a lot of choice out there - one of the things I like in this is the variety of amps etc and drive pedals seem to be a little bit different to what you get on some other modelers? But yeh, I couldn't see making a full switch for anyone already owning a modeller, and exactly the community is a big part of what makes the Helix work!

Tried the Ampero. For my money, I’d rather just get a Line 6 Pod Go. The editor felt cheap, to me.

I opened one of this yesterday. Tried to make a signal chain preset: compressor, volume, wah, amp, cab, rev, delay, modulation. It couldn’t handle it, it started freaking out something about dsp. Put it back in the box and it’s going back to the seller. Rubbish.
