I grew up staying at little motels like this with my family on vacations, so I have a soft spot for them. I'd probably love staying here - its a cute little place, even with its flaws.

Our family of four (plus dog) stayed here a few years ago, and the spirit of hospitality was so evident. Very caring proprietors. Love this place, bought the T-shirt!

Housekeeping practically chased me across the parking lot to ask if I needed fresh towels when we were leaving for Cedar Point the first day. They really couldn’t be any nicer.

I really enjoyed my stay when I went back to Sandusky to visit family. The owner is fabulous and it was nice fun stay, the sound of the trains didn't bother me because I am from Sandusky and used to the train noise. All the other places were booked for the summer, but I loved the quietness and good time I had at the pool. Great place to do what I needed it to do, sleep!

@The Elevator Channel *I love it! It makes you think of the "good old days" gone by in America when travelling was more of an interesting adventure in and of itself. Very simple, and extremely basic but in a nice homey sort of way. I only WISH I could go back in time and live in the 1930s,40s and 50s. America was better back then in most ways.*

It's fine for passing through or if you're not spending most of your time in the room. It appears to be a clean place to sleep and shower and that's it.

Wow, love the older motels. When I was younger we stayed in motels like this.

This motel brings back old memories of my family vacation trips each summer with my mom and dad from the 1950s up until getting married in 1976. This was a typical motel where we stayed. Sandusky caught my eye because our 2 week vacation trips included a week stay at my grandparents house in Warrne, Ohio, and I remember we seemed to visit Cedar Point at least one day each trip as we included seeing sights in the North and East. Ee included time at the Lake Erie beach, which I think was included as part of the admission. I did take my own family there once on one of my own family road trips. From St. Louis

I always try searching for these types of motels/hotels you don’t see a ton of them anymore glad to see a few of them are still around.

I LOVE THIS! Your channel came up with a recommendation regarding your Amtrak trip which also was great. I grew up in the New York area in the 1960s and it was at motels like we would stay when on the road. The style and wood here is really nice except perhaps the spooky looking prison shower pipes. But the tiles in the shower just fine. Also… your elevator (called lifts in most of the rest of the world) are interesting too. I went to college at CUNY 23rd Street (Baruch College) in an old decrepit building when NYC was broke. There was an old manual operated elevator using a big hand crank with an old guy named Tony who was probably the happiest man in the world and loved by all the students. Anyway… now 67 years old I have been living on the other side of the world more than 30 years. We have some old French elevators still working here in Saigon being the kind where everything is exposed and from the hallway one can see into the elevator shaft with simple doors at each level. Anyway… these days my visits to America are by way of videos like these. Thank you! Ps. I love the color TV sign at the motel. It wasn’t till I was married that there would be a color TV in our home!

Love that "Color TV by RCA" on the sign! Even when I saw those as a kid in the 80s, I knew they were kind of dated...

That somewhat thrown together shower reminds me a lot of a shower in the locker room of an old YMCA branch, especially with the tile which just screams 1960s. As for that sink that is like a one way trip back to 1959, but what really stuck out was that they had a remote for a Roku streaming player next to the remote for the TV. It is really interesting to see some of these old school motor inns still in existence in my home state of Ohio.

It’s kinda cool really. You don’t have all the hustle and bustle like a modern motel. It’s in a more peaceful setting too. The bathroom could use a bit of updating, but still it’s not really that bad. I’d stay here. Looks like you will not get woke up from the morning routine of people leaving like in a modern motel. It would feel more homey to me.

@5:23 'The Big One' is actually a Kohl's brand. Being that it's an independently-owned motel, they likely choose to save money by buying residential items for their rooms. That bathroom reminds me of the "master" bathroom in my grandparent's beach condo. It's so small that there's barely enough room to move around (the shower is also tiny). Luckily in their place, there's a hall bathroom that's of an average size.

That is a cute charming motel, the sad thing is even though it's run down it looks like it's ran better then some name brand chain hotels I've stayed at which is sad. Aspecaily when some of these name brand places charge you an arm and a leg. I hope you had fun on your trip though

You should come to Lamberton MN the Lamberton motel that is a classic.

Now this place is a legitimate old school motel, very very cool. They did not upgrade much which I guess is why it stands as it is. I have spent a few nights on the roads here in the western states at a few motels and there are some amazing places but they usually are a hodgepodge of renovations.

Around the 1 minute mark there was some glitching in the video when you were opening the door to go into the room - I'm pretty sure that was not on my end. It was likely either your camera or the exported video after editing it. Anyways, interesting that you found one of the few remaining hotels/motels to use a traditional physical key. It looks like this place is using the same key tags as the Aquarius Inn which I visited earlier this year in Bicknell, Utah. They both have the "drop in any mailbox, postage guaranteed" message on the tag. Though, I've still never stayed at a place with ungrounded power outlets before. It seems like small independent places like these tend to have early check out times at 10 30 am, usually the earliest you see is 11 am. May I ask, how much did you pay per night at this place? It doesn't look bad, although if I had to pick on upgrading anything it would be the bathroom plumbing.

The *only* reason I'd give this place a pass is the lack of decent locks on the door. As a small woman traveling alone most of the time, that's a deal-breaker for me. Otherwise, everything about it tickles me. I love old-school motels like this! As long as the rooms and beds are clean, I find them super comforting :)

Man that motel almost reminds me of my apartment very old a tad rundown but yet in very nice Condition and a little charming. But as far as that password is that’s the worst Wi-Fi password I’ve ever seen just cause I can’t stand the geek squad since I’ve gotten so many computers they have screwed up into my shop for repair

My first thought was the lock issue. As a point of interest, are you tall or were the bathroom fixtures low? You weren’t holding your camera too high up but the sink seemed pretty low. I’ve been a subscriber for over a year, maybe even two, and your content is always enjoyable.

I’m about 6’2. But yes, the fixtures were mounted pretty low.

It looks like a decent motel. Could be renovated to bring it into the 21st century. Also, I'm not 100% sure but I think the Big One brand is from Kohl's. Also, didn't know Sandusky was a real town in Ohio. I thought it was made up by the Tommy Boy filmmakers.

The business has existed for about 100 years, but the motel wing where I stayed went up some time in the 1950s. There’s older units behind the owner’s house that appear to no longer be in use.
