My parents used to watch this on British TV together with other epic American shows such as Dallas, Fantasy Island, Dynasty and The Love Boat back in the 80's. It truly was the Golden Age of TV and having reached the age they were back then, I can truly appreciate the greatness of these shows in comparison to what we get on TV. I always used to dance silly to this intro though as a kid whenever it came on until my parents told me to just sit down on the couch.

Henry Mancini score excellent

I never really watched the show. But the feeling I get when I see this intro was that TV made you feel good and was SOOO much better than now.

I loved this show as a kid. I could listen to that intro repeatedly.

Ohhh the most wonderful time in the world to have lived in the USA!! This song would come on tv as a teen and I would dream of the day I could go to see San Francisco in all its glory!! In 2020 it is now the Detroit of the golden state....

She show was a huge success and very popular in Germany! I grew up with it in the 80s! Amazing guest stars, too! ❤️ I could binge watch it right now!

For both James Brolin and connie sellecca on ABC: When one series ends, another cool series begins. Brolin did Marcus welby MD (with Robert Young) and sellecca was fresh off the greatest American hero (with William Katt and Robert Culp)

And for this years Brollin started Scruples with Lindsay Wagner and a great cast.

One of the best theme songs for a tv. show. I want to find a tv themes cd with all the best songs and I would play it in the car, house or office. I liked santa barbara, general hospital, young and the restless, one life to live to name a few.

One of the best 👌 Too bad we no longer have shows 😪 like this on network TV!

No wonder I love this theme so much - Henry Mancini wrote it! The music and the stills of the cast members go together. I love the glitz and glamour of the 80's!

Shows were better back then than what we have now

The Last Theme Henry Mancini Did, was the Short Lived 1990 Version of TIC TAC DOUGH.

I remember hating this show as a kid, it replaced Knight Rider on Thursday nights on ITV, when the series finished. My dear old Mum loved it though and the music brings backs so many memories.

Nice ending. That CD version goes straight to Newhart and in that three segment themes with Remington Steel as well. Sad because those themes deserve their proper ending.

Great chapter! marvellous guess stars! Mary Crosby, Steve Forrest and Robert Stack worked together in Hollywood Wives mini series by Jackie Collins. Dina Meryll and Heather Locklear a luxe! Hotel was or is a really nice t.v. series. The glorious 80s fabulous decade for luxury t.v. series and miniseries with casts full of talent, glam and beauty.

Thanks for posting this. I wish it were available streaming. It’s not even in iTunes. At least Dynasty is - I need it in quarantine. BTW I worked in a 5 star hotel for 36 years and the Arther Haley book “Hotel” is a hoot with fake but funny behind the scenes. (A maid fakes an ongoing pregnancy past security with a daily ham or turkey hidden). The book is so much better than the theatrical movie. The TV version of HOTEL was obviously a riff on the Love Boat but who cares. I didn’t. Unfortunately no one has posted even the pilot with Bette Davis.

I have a cd named Mancini plays Mancini and it has this theme. This sounds like it came from that cd.

This series presented the Hollywood version of hotel life. In 2022, with civility long having checked out, the glitter has forever turned to tarnish. Working as a front desk agent is no longer a position to aspire, but a stop along the way to obtaining a career.

Id love to see a documentary on how they did these credits manually. Quite literally cut and paste.These were the days before computers were as advanced.

Strong and promising first 15 seconds... then the theme collapses like a yeast dough. That's how I felt about it back then, and the series itself, it never could meet my expectations. Maybe I was just too young and not mature enough for it...

I see that the old building is very beautiful because I remember every night when I was in bed they've aways Aird this series because I've always like listening to the musical intro that followed because I had school that morning & all of us children had to be in bed by 9:00 P.M.

The wonder years of post war 20th C when America seemed lights years ahead of the UK at that time. Glitz and glamour we could only really dream of. Globalisation has in some ways removed that in the 21st Century and it is not for the better...Love this theme, so upbeat, aspirational and American.

This show was filmed when San Francisco was a classy city, relatively clean with nice restaurants, upscale shopping and safe. The last few times I’ve visited San Francisco, it’s been horrible. Mentally ill/ homeless people everywhere including Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, North Beach and Golden Gate Park. The city is filthy and no one seems to care.

L.A. was the same as S.F. despite the traffic and smog, with the riff-raff pretty much confined to Skid Row. Now it's so bad that even Venice Beach (including Muscle Beach) is crawling with filth and disease.

The book it was based on, and the 1968 film were both set in New Orleans. Robert Stack and Dina Merrill would play a couple in Caddyshack II, one of the worst movies ever made.

Heather Locklear was like in every shows in the 80s

Great cast of up and coming stars of their day mixed with who's who of Hollywood legends from the Golden Age. Heather Locklear should have been a big star of the big screen with those looks but seem at home of the small screen instead. Pity.
