Please report the guard. If he’s speaking in such a threatening manner, what is he going to say/do to someone in a shitty position that’s maybe alone in life? It’s worrying that he’s so nice until he’s deeply nasty and threatening. Use this to stand up for people that might be able to stand up for themselves

I'm wondering if the guard who threatened him is the same whose clip was shown in this video. It's strange how he was being super nice to him then snapped after he had a confrontation with someone completely different. Dude even said he was a fan and watches his videos and what not, how absolutely weird.

If you look at the guard as he’s talking when he “threatens” him he’s giving a warning look like ‘dude the owner is breathing down my neck I ain’t got no choice’ but that’s just my opinion on the matter cause it feels like something else is going on behind the scenes that we weren’t shown/couldn’t see

Yes. I was thinking the same thing. If he behaves like that on the camera (and what he said specifically is very concerning), then it is entirely probable that in different circumstances he would do things that are completely not acceptable. He should not be in working in the position.

If a security guard threatens to "kick your teeth in," especially when you're such a nice person, they need to be reported to their company. Nobody has the right to threaten anyone.

The management involved is once again sketchy and I have a feeling they’re going to be preying on residents. If the grand opening was listed as public but you kick out the people most likely to expose you when you do bad, then they’re already up to something. For example, that is not low income housing, that’s a leech tank so those people can never get out of financial trouble. No one making under 24k a year can easily be able to pay a min of $900 a month to be in a dorm room

Limiting residence to 24,000 a year but charging 900-1200 a month sounds so predatory. If the residents are paying 50% of their income on rent, how are they supposed to save enough to move away from it, assuming if they get a job that pays higher they will no longer be allowed to live there. Sounds like anyone that lives there will be stuck in a cycle of paying them.

I think they are using this as a ploy to make it so tourists come, to see who still has interest in staying here...and as grim as this comes off..they are using those on skid row as beta testers....to see if the portals are still there. If they aren't....they may remarket it to the public again which brings the "for profit" part of their company into it. If it does still exist....then they can write it off as they went crazy in the hotel and they did the state a solid by cleaning up the streets of skid row, at least for the time being.

I live in a very expensive city in Canada. When I first got my apartment because at the time I made less than $40,000 a year I qualified for a reduced rent because my building had an agreement with our provinces housing support. It was $950 a month and I was making $26,000 a year at the time. The studio units in my building were normally $1,400 a month. It was an incredibly hard couple of years I will tell you that but I couldn’t afford to live anywhere else so I made it work to avoid homelessness.

And still unaffordable, don't forget that part, $24k $1000 a month is half of what they make, then taxes. That leaves them with $600~ for food, gas, utilities, everything. Price of living is insanely high there too, $600 gets nothing. Thats assuming they make the max $24k too far more likely to be less. We're talking about they barely make it or break even. Thats the goal though, force them to be stuck in the cycle so they never stop paying, clinging on by just enough to breathe and become a wage slave to fuel your pocketbook. The interesting thing about adaptive reuse is that, specifically for the parts of the building from an earlier era that they're keeping the aesthetic of, since it is a historical landmark--the developers/property managers are not allowed to use materials that aren't the same as what was originally used for upkeep and repair purposes. I work for a property management company, and we own a building in the historic district of Sacramento, CA. Because this area of town dates back to the California Gold Rush, with the newest part of it having been rebuilt in the 1920s due to flooding, we have to find very specific types of brick and other materials that aren't what we would use in more modern buildings, in order to repair the facade. It ends up being more expensive to do that, so I'm surprised they're using a historical landmark like the Cecil for low-income housing.

Since its low income, market rent can be $900, but the person living there will only pay a percentage of that, based on income. A government entity, HUD, Urban/Rural Development etc; will pay the remainder of the rent. They can steadily raise the market value. So, I would say you're right. They're gonna make their money this way, mostly from the government. Its great that's it's become low income housing but, kind of sad that no one can just rent a room and ghost hunt for a while.

New subbie here! I love this so much! I’m so sorry that guard was being a dick. You’re such a sweetheart and for him to try to bully you like that just showed how much of a coward he was/is. Sending love from Seattle, WA.

The guard seems off. At first he was friendly and actually made good conversation with you then after some silence he turned into a different person. Could it be mental illness or maybe the other dude just pushed him too far and he has anger issues or maybe something spookier? Like possession?

Not possession. He probably thought the two guys were there together or something. Guard probably took offense. Decided to take it out on this dude.
