The 1989 batman looks the best out of all the batman suit's in my opinion just looks badass .

I have the DX 09 Batman 89 and I think it's the most awesome figure Hot Toys has ever released and worth every penny. Oh fun fact: in 1989 there were some legal issues with the bat symbol so Burton had to modify the symbol in order to avoid legal issues. Hence the funny shape.

For me it's all about the cowl , Returns is perfect he looks scary looking better than anything in any of the DK movies hands down.

GREAT VIDEO! just what i needed.

I have both but prefer the Returns outfit because I think the cowl is sleeker and the outfit looks like a smoother design than the sculpted abs on the '89. Both are tremendous pieces though. I will never part with either of them. When I purchased the Returns, I picked up the set with Bruce Wayne. I doubt we'll ever get another chance at Keaton in this scale from this company. He looks stellar as well.

I have both on a shelf and my eyes gravitate towards the Returns version. I think its the Bat Cowl that draws my eyes to it

awesome comparison deano ' i love the look of both & tbh i think even now the 89 has stood the time really well for an old figure ' & given the many figures hot toys has released through out the years ... i do think the 89 still holds that classic appeal compared to other hot toys even the returns

Both look great. If I had to settle for one I would pick the 89 version.

They are both awesome but I still prefer the 89 suit better. For some reason the 89 suit looks darker scarier and since the suit is a little more rough looking he looks more creature like while the Returns suit is more polished and because of that it looks like he is wearing a suit while the 89 one he didn't.

I'm lucky enough to have gotten both as well, still don't kno which I like more tho.

I know this comment is VERY late but the symbols are different because when they filmed the 89 film they would not receive the rights to the logo until a few months AFTER they were scheduled to begin filming. So they simply modified it. By the 92 film they had the rights. Also, Tim Burton has stated the 92 suit was inspired by the sleekness of Art Deco and Automobiles. So good eye sir.

I have always liked the 1989 cowl the most. I have to go for the Dx09 although I also love the Batman Returns figure which in fact was the one I first purchased.

my dx09 is arriving today so excited for that.

I’ve wanted a Keaton for a couple years now dean. I was happy to find this review you did a couple years back. I went with the returns version but no doubt I’ll eventually get the 89. After all it’s the year I was born in

Dean, The Bat symbol was always the 2 pronged version for the movie logos, in the original 1989 movie however, it was always 4 pronged. I think it's one of those instances where they redesigned it post production.

I watched the making of '89 batman and the team who made the suits cocked up the bat sign on the suit & they never changed it :p

Great video, dude! I still like the 89 version better though. Its the details in the torso that does it for me. With that said, the thighs on the 89 version is a lot more plain than on the new version. A hybrid between the two would probably look damn awesome! I wonder if the parts are compatible between them? The cape should be just fine to swap over, and maybe the cowl. I also agree with you on that they should have made a seperation in the shoulder and hip areas for better posability. Now, IF I could afford to get two of each of these figures, I would try to customise a hybrid of these two, and simply make a more posable version. I would have put the cowl and cape from the returns version on the 89 body, and made a seperation in the shoulders and hips. I would also have swapped the bottom half of the rubber suit from the returns version over onto the 89 version. It wouldn't be accurate to neither of the movies, but it would probably make a better looking figure in my opinion. Now, depending on if you want to put the figure in one pose and leave it like that forever, you could possibly use a hairdryer to warm up the suit enough to get it into a more extreme pose. But that would result in some warping of the suit, which in turn would never make it look good in any other pose after that. The question is; Would you risk your figure to do this? Well... THAT depends on your wallet! Personally, I would have gotten a extra figure, or at least the basic body with the suit, before I'd attempt such a thing. Anyways! I wish that they had found a way to make this suit in layers, stretchable material or something, so that it was more poser friendly. Its kind of a shame to have to leave such a beautiful figure in a simple museum pose...

deanknight333 Well, its just stuff that you kind of have to expect with a rubber suited figure like that. Its always the esthetics or the posing that will have to suffer. But as you were talking about in a previous video, they could have made some cuts in the rubber suit to give it more posability, or done the suit in multiple materials that could move with the body. There is probably some materials out there that looks like rubber, but is actually fabric. I bet there is tons of other solutions for it, but rubber was simply the cheapest way to go and easiest to work with as far as mass production goes.

But I'm extremely happy they decided to release this figure. I missed the release of the 89 batman. Now he goes for a ridiculous price of like $600.

+shellsbignumber2 the texture on '89 is movie accurate and done on purpose. That suit, unlike the smooth sterile Returns redesign, was alot more rough and grittier. Also the height is more accurate to Keaton's true height, he's not a tall guy. I like Returns, but I dont need another bats. I have the duo of Nicholson Joker and '89 bats so I'll keep them as a set and wait to get Reutrns and HOPE that they release a penguin or catwoman as his companion piece.

The 89 cowl is definitely more iconic and it helps that you used one of the faceplates that really captures Keaton's Likeness. While the Returns suffers from making him look like he has no neck &/or putting a bit of weight on I have never liked the 89 abs - at least the HT version. They look so cheap, and while I love the whole design of the Returns suit, especially the torso - I was disappointed as I expected this figure to be not just one rubber suit but made up of multi-parts with the abs section similar to the Iron Man, overlapping. Both '89 Bases have always suck IMO, Such a bright colour being so vivid is ugh! Returns got it Perfect. The BR logo is one of the best! Dunno if I will get this or not. you never said if you like the PERS over the new joystick system? And who has the better accessories?

+Stiffkittens Keaton did actually weigh more for Returns. The '89 suit didn't fit.

92 for me!

They are both great. I still think I prefer the 89. I just prefer the suit. It's more iconic and classic. Also this was my 1st ever film I watched in the cinema so it will always hold a special place. Look forward to some good photography :)

gypsycatcha79 this is a very nice memory. i wasn't born when the movie came out but when i was a kid i loved it and still do ! tim burton did a great job ! what do you think about ben affleck ? i have to say that he looks awesome as batman because he looks like a classic frank miller tdkr bruce wayne / batman and i am very exited to watch it.

My favourite is the Enterbay 1/4 scale Batman begins figure. But out of the ones you mentioned, i would pick BvS Regular suit atman.

I do agree buddy that both are done real well ..I am a bit torn though..I like the Returns cowl better and the fact it fits more flush to the body makes it visually more appealing ..Even the cape is better then the 89 but when these two figs are together the cape is only slightly better..I hate wired capes period ..Still not a fan of the Returns suit , its too sterile and unnatural looking , not organic like the 89 but like you said it comes down to personal taste ..Some like blondes some like redheads , I prefer just a pulse ..Love Bro

man dont be biased towards an opinion ...at the end its a matter of taste as you already said in your video and in my case i see that returns is more realistic ..thats all...enjoy them both mate:)

yea they changed the logo because the 89 batman logo looked like laughing teeth lol.

I prefer the 89' bats body suit but the scowl of the Returns bats looks far better imo.

Hello, I watched Ric's (theclipperking) review on Batman 89 and Batman 92 (Batman Returns) Hot Toys figures and I have to say that I don't agree with Ric's review. I think that the Batman Returns figure is much more movie accurate than the DX09 figure, to me, the Michael Keaton likeness on the Batman Returns figure is amazing. The DXO9 figure looks a lot more cartoonish to me.

there is a reason why the two bat symbol are different.

when the first film was done...thay did not have the rights to the bat symbol.....so thay made one that looked similar. time when thay came to make the second film in 1992.....thay had the rights to use the bat symbol. That's why thay are both different.

This is true, however, by late 1988 after filming was completed and the press materials were being printed and the trailer constructed, a deal was reached between DC Comics, Warner Bros, and Polygram to use the copyrighted trademark. It was too late to change the costume, but a deal was made so they could at least use it for publicity materials including Anton Furst's magnificent poster.

I like them both. The 89 mid section calls out to the child in me with his super hero abs while the 92 pleases the adult with the sleek 50's art deco look. As far as the cowls go, 89 is more iconic because 89 movie is more iconic.. but the 92 just looks mean and may be the best BM cowl of all time with those killer long devil ears. I'll be owning both as well I suppose. Thanks for the vids.

+Carlos Tejada Hot toys copy people and other companies all the time. From eye moving systems, to the way they now promote their figures with photography. I have very little to no respect for the company.
