I remember, (can not forget) taking 4 hours to drive 70 miles on a Friday while living in Southern California 20 years ago. I DO NOT miss it! I get a laugh when I see the Traffic Reports where I live now, every street in the Report is Green with very seldom a Yellow section. I lived 1 mile from the 10 Freeway and the constant noise from all the Traffic was deafening. When I moved back to Ohio where I grew up I was amazed at how silent it was. So silent that I developed Tinnitus or so I was told by an Ear and Throat Doctor I went to see. He told me after living with the noise my brain is now causing the Tinnitus so I don't think I'm going deaf. Not sure if I had the Tinnitus while living in California, the Noise never stopped long enough to hear the ringing.

High School Auto Shop instructor ran his 1955 Chev. at Irwindale. Claimed he got into the 10’s with it, (in the quarter). I remember helping put the 427 CI together, not much else. {Torqued the rod bearing caps; (why Gary / the shop instructor trusted me with this action; is why I remember this part of the build)}. Only failed part was the manual 4-speed transmission, not the engine). 😳

@Merlin So, Parker AZ. was my aunt and uncle's town, and by default my cousins' town. Uncle Elroy worked for the government during and after the construction of both the dam and Gene (spelling?) pumping station. He was a carpenter by trade, and was a part of the team of men who built all those homes over in Gene Village and some of Parker too I guess. I've been inside the pumping station a couple of times on "The Family Tour" back in the day, and everyone waved at him and knew him by name. Very Cool. They later moved to Kingman Az.for their retirement, I'm currently trying to get a hold of their property and if I do, we will hopefully meet in person one day. Also my Father was a machinist in Irwindale Ca. and my oldest Brother Jerold used to work at Miller Brewery there as well. A very good friend of the family, Chuck, worked his way up to being Chief of Police of Irwindale Ca. also. (now retired) So thank you for this. EDIT: I almost forgot the most important part! My brother Mike used to race his Pontiac Tempest out at the original Irwindale Raceway, which was my introduction to "Wrenchin'&Racin'" Which got bulldozed for a certain Brewery to be built in it's place. :-( EDIT #2: omg I didn't know you were going to Po-Mona too! Pfffft! Pomona Fair, for many years, Pomona Computer show/swap meet every month for years, Pomona Swap Meet, The freakin' Winter-Nationals! with big brother Mike, bless his drag racin' soul! (second New Year & Christmas without him) Are ya sure you're not gonna just pull in the driveway of my childhood home or something?! "Power Tour West, A Slice of my Entire Life" Geez! Thank You So Much Merlin, really.

Regarding GM keys, the door AND ignition keys for my 1959 Pontiac would work in my Dads 1964 Chev, no problem. The ignition key for my 1965 Chev truck would work as an ignition key for my 1988 Freightliner. Welding ball joints is a new one on me. lol
