My conspiracy is that USAP approved the paddle without realizing how controversial it would be and that's where it stemmed from. Whether they lied about the reason or maybe they spoke with Joola before the ban, who knows

The biggest suit is Joola going after USA Pickleball for 100 million plus damages! So if Zane can’t out hit Jack, then Jack can’t play with his paddle and Zane has to provide him with one of his paddles…..sounds like if you don’t win then you have an inferior paddle, maybe you just need more training/drilling.

The problem with the hot mic situation is not that Ben was trash talking Tyra's drive, the problem is that he was mocking her behind her back. Ben could stand by his assessment of Tyra's drive, but still apologize for mocking her to get a cheap laugh out of AL and her mom.

If Ben wants to offer Tyra, an apology in private, that’s his prerogative. But here’s the deal. Good players recognize other players weaknesses and they exploit them. For him to be caught on a hot mic was just him being honest and you don’t need to punish anybody for being honest. If it hurt her feelings then maybe he does need to offer her a private apology but he doesn’t owe anybody anything else. Ridiculous cancel culture.

This is my theory and may be backed up by information John Kew got via Vatic. USAP has an equipment standards manual. When manufacturers submit their paddles I believe they are supposed to describe the makeup/content/design of the paddle. USAP tests the paddle but does not cut it open and relies on the manufacturer's attestation/form/signature that they paddle is within the standards. Then the results of the tests (which are point in time as opposed to over time) determine initial approval. When paddles get a lot of publicity/marketing as being like a trampoline, using compressible foam, etc and becoming way to "hot," USAP then cuts them open to determine what is inside and if it violates the equipment standards manual (specifically prohibited features "2.E.6.f Springs or spring-like material, flexible membranes or any compressible material that creates a trampoline effect." and "2.E.6.b Rubber and synthetic rubber.") and if is has prohibited internals they take the paddle off the approved list on this basis and that the manufacturer knowingly submitted paddles in violation of the standards and didn't disclose the full internals of the paddle to USAP when they submitted the paddles for testing.

Pickleball is at a similar spot to where UFC was in the early 2000's. Yeah it has been around a lot longer, but people are coming to the sport that have backgrounds in other raquet / paddle sports and the cross training / knowledge is going to lead to an evolution in sport and massive growth in technique and strategy. The game in 10 years isn't going to look like it does today and the competition will be at an insane high level. Ben Johns is like Ken Shamrock, you haven't even seen Anderson Silva or Jon Jones start playing yet.

My theory: USPA certified the Alpha paddle. Joola did make a mistake and submitted the wrong paddle for Gen 3. USAP decides it should not have allowed the Gen 3. Joola argues it is really the same design as the Alpha. USAP then realizes this is true and removes the Alpha paddle also. Joola argues USPA has to use the same standards for all paddles or they will sue (and win easily). USPA doubles down and removes all paddles using similar cores. All these companies will sue USPA for changing standards without notification. USPA is in big trouble and will have to change or get sued into bankruptcy. The whole thing is bad for the sport!

Most of the people who watch pickleball, play pickleball, and they are not all junkies that follow all the pods and hub bub. Very sad and concerning to hear about your friends’ injuries. Most states would not allow recovery due to assumption of the risk. If it were not the case, there would be no tennis without mandatory eye wear as those balls have more mass and come off the racquet far faster than a pickleball. Getting hit while standing near the net by a blistering drive from a tennis ball is every bit as dangerous. That being said, prudence would dictate that eye protection may be advised in pickleball.

Theory: The intent of all of this was intentional from Joola. I also think PPA/UPA is associated with this scheme too. They wanted to be sued, and they knew that their paddle was illegal. They intentionally sent in the incorrect paddle so they could create this issue with USAPA and in the end sue them. Causing USAPA to fall in the long run and UPA to take control (which is basically the PPA). Which also is a terrible thing for the PPA to be the governing body of pickleball in general as the only thing the PPA is concerned with is money, not the wellbeing of the sport. USAPA actually seems to listen to the people when there are actual complaints about things, obviously since all of this is happening. It may be slow sometimes but in the end they are trying to keep the integrity of the sport in tact. Now for those of you who are going to say that the UPA has been backing the decisions made by USAPA with these paddles. I am willing to bet they are doing it as a fake sign of "respect" so when USAPA does crumble down, UPA will just come swoop in and save the day and no one will think anything when they do. I think the PPA/UPA is corrupt and has some sort of deal with Joola to where they will be powerhouses together dominating the sport as a whole. And in the long run with possibly be the worst thing to happen for the sport and it just turn into body bag central when we just get to the point of not having control anymore. Just my idea though. Thanks for reading all the way through!

I love this $200,000,000.00 lawsuit against the USAP, it's long overdue!.They have no transparency, and no accountability, they're a black hole. What independent body is overseeing the USAP testing model, holding them accountable, making them more timely, more responsive to their clients? The USAP is the problem! Who is the third party tester, what exact test's are they doing, what exact scientific equipment are they using, where are their detailed, published, scientific test results for each paddle tested? The USAP collects too much money, tens of millions of dollars, to be shrouded in such secrecy. Sunlight is the best disenfectant. Pickleball is going soft with all this talk about injury, liability etc. There's a simple solution, wear protective eyewear, this is a simple, cheap solution. Don't dumb down pickleball more then it already is. Be progressive, continue to evolve, keep an open mind, remember your fans/viewers.

If the pb community tries to limit ball speed to protect those who do not fully understand the risk, isn’t it actually beneficial to all of us? Moreover, mlb bans aluminum bats that can be manufactured to be lighter, faster and more powerful than wooden bats. Doesn’t mlb still retain adequate appreciation by baseball fans despite this rule?

@@MLB1212 comparing pickleball to MLB is laughable, MLB has been around forever, is one of the big four major pro sports, is considered America's past time, and by the way, at all levels, both pro and amateur they wear protective helmets. Pickleball is desperately trying to gain traction at the pro level, and if it's not considered exciting and dynamic to watch(both TV and streaming), then they won't get major TV contracts/sponsors/eyeballs. Protective eyewear is as cheap as $1.50 at the dollar store, you just poke the lenses out. There are also many skill levels in pickleball at the amateur level, so you can pick your skill/speed/comfort level.

The inclusion of the word "unless" means that if anything you're wearing DOES land in the kitchen during a volley, the ball does not remain in play - because the point is over due to a kitchen violation.

Your recollection of games is lacking. Take notes! James and Anna were playing Dylan and Tyra. Ben and James were playing Gabe and Riley.

Joola has dug a deep hole. They admitted they had it administrative error whatever that means. They now need a refund probably a half $1 million worth of paddles will now be worthless and now they will have to spend a bunch of money in legal costs. Not a good situation for them.. And now they have to put more money in to defend against class action suits. The one good thing they did was offer a full refund, which is probably their best response to remedy the damages, but you can claim damages outside of the cost of the Paddle itself. They may be frivolous claims but they still need to be addressed and that cost money. The other thing they did was to not allow anybody to sell the GEN three Paddle in the first week other than themselves so now they have to deal with the lion chair of these paddles that will be banned and need to be refunded or replaced at a greater cost. This is not the first instance of something like this happening. Gage had a similar issue a while back, pro light had an issue as well Crbn Paddles, etc..

Yes, Joola files $200,000,000.00 lawsuit, I love it! You wanna mess around USAP, let's go, welcome to the real world, pickleball is a real sport now, not your private backyard treehouse/playground. Your actions now have real world consequences! :) Go Joola!
