I am really glad to hear this!!! I am so thinking about getting the G9ii because it simply does all the things I need...the overheating is the only thing holding me back. Please bring us updates whenever you can :)

Y'know what's going to happen? The GH7 will come out with beautiful, lovely, sweet, ACTIVE COOLING and you will instantly sell your G9-II and rush to get the new GH7. It's bound to happen. Don't try to fight it. It's imminent. Just letting you know right now. ;-)

Thank you for diving deeper into this topic. Following your initial video, I've purchased the Ulanzi Fan, along with 2 M.2 SSD coolers and a thin, high-performance thermal pad to place between my G9ii and the fan, which I believe will enhance cooling efficiency. While our place in Canada doesn't experience extreme heat throughout the year, I'm stoked to push these limits for experimentation. Your insights are greatly valued, especially since this topic hasn't been widely discussed in the KZread community!

How are you going to place the M2 SSDs coolers? I was thinking of adding some kind of heat sink but wasn’t sure where or how to rig it.

@@_tographer The SSD coolers and the heat pad together are theoretically thin enough (2.5mm total) that there hopefully won't be much of an issue mounting it and simply sticking the cooler as intended. And a V-mount battery plate that I'm attaching to the back of the camera would likely provide extra support. For those without a V-mount plate on the back, perhaps a bar clamp could be necessary to secure the combination in place. Clearly, this aspect needs further exploration!

You mentioned that Panasonic can remember 3 focusing points; with the help of even contrast focusing, you can focus and move to different points. Could you watch a video of how you do it?

Direct sun kills them. This is why I still have my GH5s and G9. Can't put all your eggs in one basket.

This is for the GH6 "When the temperature of the camera or card rises, [icon_temperature-rise] appears blinking on the screen. If you continue to use the camera, a message indicating that the camera or card cannot be used is displayed on the screen and recording and HDMI output will be stopped. Wait for the camera or card to cool down and for the message indicating that they can be used again. When the message indicating that they can be used again is displayed, turn the camera off then on again."

Even with the fan a GH6 can get hot. From the GH6 manual, "When the temperature of the camera or card rises, [icon_temperature-rise] appears blinking on the screen.

No remorse, got the G9II for $1500. By contrast the GH7 is $2200 + $500 for 32bit float + $200 for Arri Log ($2900 total plus tax) - For indoor use, the G9II gets the job done, and if I need to use it outside, I'm just a bit more cautious, plus that $30 Ulanzi fan does help if the heat gets more extreme.

@@_tographer dude nice! I ended up canceling my gh7 preorder and got a used g9ii. Mostly for cost savings but mainly because my main cameras are the s1h/bs1h/eva1. The gh7 would be perfect if it was my a cam but kinda not wise to use it as a c cam. Also the xlr2 would force me to use the gh7 as a main camera so yeah. I settled on a g9ii instead. No regrets

so the question would be .. being used in my studio and outdoors ... with an ext monitor... I record YT videos with my teleprompter ... in a scene by scene approach ... over maybe 10 -15 mins runs ... the question would be ... do you think it would overheat in these scenarios ... ext SSD record .... in New Zealand ... mostly its 22-25c in the house ... maybe 30c outside in summer in the extreme .... I don't record in Prores ... I don't to 4K 120 ... prob mostly short recordinging altthough my A7III has recrded the odd presentation .... GH7 or G9II >??

Can you just let the GH9 II run for 5 hours in 60p 4K or open gate even indoors without direct sunlight (this is the duration of a show): if it doesn't heat up then it's a good camera all around the GH5 and GH5s, if it heats up then it's a camera that is limited which is a shame for an M4/3 sensor. Thank you for your tests.

Being an open gate shooter with reservations about incorporating Lumix full frame on a regular basis, I think you'll appreciate Dustin Armstrong's video about the new update secret on the s5ii/s5iix, if you haven't seen it already. Having the ability to use Super 35 lenses on a full frame body really opens up lens options. That, combined with the additional update features and the fact that the Lumix s5ii/s5iix are currently on sale at B&H is enough for me to open my wallet, taking the leap myself. Panasonic has been making it very difficult lately to deny its prowess. Nikon will likely become a powerhouse in the next 10 years, but I strongly suspect Lumix is primed to displace Sony in the market as they continue to evolve their full frame lineup. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYCrz9aCo6epp6w.htmlsi=gS8Nk4f2qrc03MRV
