So many projects, mine included, call for hot glue. I feel like hot glue is the duct tape of the craft world, because we use it for SO many things and it does a great job keeping unusual things together. If you're new to the idea of using hot glue, the way it works is we use a special tool called a "hot glue gun" to heat a rod of special adhesive with a continuous heating elements that melts the glue and then pushes it out through the tip when you pull the trigger.

I have several glue guns for us to look at in this video! I separate glue guns into different categories:
1. The first category is CORDED or CORDLESS. Corded glue guns are the most common, and honestly, also the most reliable. That's because most battery-powered glue guns tend to run out of batteries just when we need them, and I also notice that they sometimes struggle to get hot enough fast enough. The biggest advantage to a cordless glue gun is that they can go anywhere and you don't have a cord dragging around, messing up your stuff.
2. The next category of glue guns is SIZE. Some glue guns use mini hot glue sticks, while others use regular size glue sticks. There are even some jumbo sizes, but they are pretty rare. You should know which one your glue gun uses so you use the right size when it's time to get more glue sticks, yes, but there's more to it than that. The mini glue guns can deliver the hot glue in smaller amounts, which can be really useful for smaller crafts. The biggest downside to a mini glue gun is that the glue options are limited. The best mini glue gun I've ever used is the Cricut Glue Gun. It comes with the best mini glue sticks I've found -- they aren't anywhere near as messy as others I've tried. Fewer drips and less strings. It doesn't have a stand, but you can just lay it down like this and it doesn't cause any arm nor does it drip. Another thing I like about this glue gun is the the trigger has a more controlled output than other mini glue guns I've tried. And the tip is a really small diameter, so I don't get huge globs of glue.
3. The third category of glue guns is TEMPERATURE. You can get low temp glue guns, high temp glue guns, and even dual temp glue guns. So then the question is -- what does temperature matter? Low temp is good for more delicate things, like foam, lace, lightweight fabric, that sort of thing. Low temp is also a little more forgiving if it gets on your skin, to be honest. Low-temp glue has a higher viscosity, so it melts at a lower temperature, at about 170 to 250 degrees farenheit. That's still pretty hot! But the lower temp does give you more flexibility and it will let you reposition things a bit before it cools, too.
High temp is better for heavier materials that need a strong bond, like metal, wood, plastics, and ceramics -- basically, anything non porous. High temp glue melts at around 380 degrees Fahrenheit, and some high temp glue guns can go up to 450 degrees Farenheit, which is super hot! If you get that on yourself, we're talking third degree burns, so be careful if you're using one of these. I find that this is the most common glue gun -- the Cricut glue gun is also a high temperature glue gun, for example. If a glue gun doesn't give it's temperature on the package, it's probably a high temp glue gun. So when you go to get new glue sticks, you'll want high temp or dual temp glue sticks for it.

I have a Hot Glue tip: If you are glueing something that the glue may seep through such as burlap or cloth, use a baking silicone spatula to press your pieces together so you don't get burned.
I bought a large ceramic tile on which I keep my glue gun when I use it. If I should get glue on myself, I immediately touch the tile to it and it cools it down enough so that I can remove the glue. This is alot less messy than keeping a bowl of ice water nearby and prevents any spills.
I’ve been using hot glue guns since the 70s, even before low temp was invented, and these tips are very helpful. I even learned something new! Thanks, Jennifer!
To glue gun or not to glue gun.... I couldn't think of doing without my glue guns. Thank you, Jennifer, for your glue gun knowledge. The silicone finger protectors are a must. I like the Dollar Tree silicone spatula, too. I have a cordless glue gun that I really like. When I put it down it sets in its own stand that continues to charge the glue gun. I have never run out of a charge during a project. You and your crew do an amazing job bringing us so much valuable information! Thank you and have a blessed day!
Thank you Jennifer and the crew for all you do to make our crafting interesting.
Hello Jennifer, I can not thank you enough for all the wonderful things i have learned from you in this last year alone. You are truely a wonderful teacher. I have some ornaments i would like to make today for gifts and they will be two sided after watching you video. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I love to quilt and make cards with my Cricut Maker. I enjoy crafting with my Cricut and learning new things from you, Jennifer! Thank you for sharing your crafty genius!
My favorite type of craft? One I have supplies and time for! Usually with paper (and Cricut) or origami, then also I love all sorts of "string" crafting - knitting, crochet, tatting, macrame, all sorts of weaving - I could go on...
I got a cricut 3..still trying to do the layering. I've had it for a year and half..some things I can do, some I can not. I like watching Jennifer.
I love knitting mittens to give away. I also love knitting in general, crochet, making cards with stamps, dies, and digital cut files!
I am getting hooked on Cricut! I love this and owe it all to you Jennifer for showing us how to do this!
Thank you for the review. I kept purchasing mini glue gun after mini glue gun. The ones I got are messy as you have to lie them down. The cord gets twisted and in the way. I ended up with fluff and glitter etc. all over the glue end and side. Hard to keep clean. I end up throwing them away. Thankfully they were inexpensive. But last year I decided to get a better-quality glue gun. I purchased a Surebonder CL-195F Cord/cordless high temp glue gun. It has a stand with a non-stick glue pad. The cord plugs into the stand and not the gun. It has an ON/OFF button. YAY! I love this thing! Cleanup is easy. I just put the stand and glue gun away while leaving the cord attached to my work area with a cable holder.
Hello Jennifer and crew. Thank you for your wonderful craft ideas. My favourite, so far, are luminaries.

I enjoy all your advice. You have helped me become a more confident crafter. Thank you!
Love your videos, books, patterns and tutorials. And thank you for sharing freely with everyone. I love my Cricut, I’m getting ready to make the copper wreath you shared recently.
Thank you Jennifer for your efforts to educate us with new ideas and all the product reviews you do. I am almost ready to get started with sublimation printing and to buy Cricut maker 3 and Easypress. Just waiting for the boxing day deals to kick in 🙂🤗
Thank you Jennifer for all your hard work.
I love sublimation, paper crafting and sewing!
Hello Jennifer ,watching replay . Thank you so much for all the help you have given me.
I was at church and missed the live. I’m watching the replay. I love sublimation, paper crafts and vinyl. I want to learn embroidery but need to use some of my supplies and materials I already have on hand. 😂
Love sewing and learning new things with my Cricut! ❤️❤️
Thank you for all your ideas! It is so great to watch you and try new things!
Thanks Jennifer this vid was so helpful and knowledgeable. I've only used a glue gun a little bit. I burned my thumb a few months ago so bad I kept in ice for quite awhile and then work a bandage to bed it was awful!! That's a great tip about having a bowl of ice water close to your work area. Aloe Vera works amazing on a burn as I know most people probably already know this, but thought I would share it anyway. Thanks for being such a great teacher! I always enjoy your video's. Merry Christmas to you and your family,🙂❤
Great sharing of hot glue guns and hot glues experience and tips. Learned many things. Thanks very much.
I love love watching you make things! It can be something I already know how to make, but I will still watch your videos just to see how you teach us to do them!! Thank you for all you do for us crafters! :)
Right now I am in love with personalized stickers!
Hello Jennifer! My favorite craft to do is (right now) is sublimation on tempered glass cutting boards! I'm making them for Christmas gifts for family members. Thanks for all your wonderful informational videos! 🙂

HelloJennifer and all the craters out there. Watching and making from Ohio. Love watching you and your generosity. You Re so talented!
I make Christmas ornaments for everyone at work each year. I have only missed one year since I started in 1999. I have done glitter ornaments with vinyl on the outside, this year I am making wood burning ornaments.
Can’t wait to watch all the videos. The snowman is the first project I I did of yours. Makes me so happy. Reminds me a Girl Scout leader days. lot of fun things when they were little.
Still love the snowman. Present is a good idea... lights are a great touch.
Thank you so much for your kindness to all your subscribers and followers🌷🌷🌷 May God bless us all 🙏❤️
GLue skillets are awesome for flower arrangements!
I can't wait until Christmas! I am praying the cricut maker 3 makes its way under the tree! I've never done it before and can't wait to begin crafting!
I tried to get the glass vases last year to make the snowman but didn’t find until too late. So I plan on making him this year!
My fave is the surebonder gun fine tip with the gorilla glue sticks. Also if you have a lot of dripping your glue probably isn’t correct for your gun. You need a high heat glue for a high heat gun, and low for low, etc. Also the glue gun I have is corded and cordless. The base is plugged in and the gun sits in the charger while not in use. You get about two mins of use before it needs to be put back on base.
Love these project/gift ideas.
so much to learn about glue guns...ty so much for all the info
I am new to all of this. Just got the joy and trying to learn. Your videos are very helpful. I know I am going to get a bigger Cricut..
I also do the same thing as the previous comment on the skillet . It’s also good for jewelry . I too use toothpicks with it.
Jennifer - I wish I had your energy! This is amazing!
Thank you so much Jennifer for being such a wonderful mentor! Thank you for all your generosity and wonderful gifts all year long. Thank you for knowing all my questions without me ever even have to ask them. There is sooooo much to thank you for, but I will stop with that. You are a FABULOUS person with a beautiful heart! Merry Christmas to you and yours 😘
My friend uses a skillet for making wreathes because she can dip into with her picks. She loves it for that.
I love making and learning how to make things
Hard question! I love machine embroidery first. Paper crafting second. Crocheting third and lastly sewing.
Thank you Jennifer. I just ordered my cricut glue gun from Michaels for $16.99. It was $39.99!
So many great ideas! Thank you for another great tutorial!
Just wanted to share that Michaels has the Cricut Hot Glue Gun on sale for $19.99 online. I ordered 2.

I have a surebonder cordless glue gun that has a plug in base . I also have the surebonder glue pot and I Love it
Going to try to make these tomorrow :)
Thanks for the info. I need to get a new glue gun. I do use the glue skillets for floral arrangements, though.
Thanks for the great tutorial and tips!
Great video on the clue guns as always great tips and info! Thank you Jennifer hugs Liz x
Thank you for all you do to help us all year long.
thank you for all the great tips
I asked about this at the end of the live video. I know you had to rush away to help your daughter! My question is…. I’m trying to sublimate my logo onto the bottom of ceramic mugs. I have the mini heat press, but the pointy end rests on top of the ridge of the bottom of the mug and it’s not making good contact. I’ve tried the silicone wrap thing to make the press itself tighter, but it didn’t work. Thank you!
Can you still do some of these crafts without the easy press? Also can you put vinyl on wine glasses without the mug heater? I have a cruicut air and would love to make some mugs and wine glasses without having to invest a lot more money into yet another machine. You are totally awesome and love your videos
Great information and tips! I want to try the Vaseline trick!
Surebonder makes a glue gun that’s the best of corded and cordless worlds. It’s on a stable stand where it remains heated/heating while the stand is on. The chord is attached to the stand, not the gun, so you can take it off the stand and use the gun cordless for 2 mins, placing it back on heating stand as you go along. It’s an excellent high quality product with some other good features too. After a year of use, I highly recommend it.

Skillet is good for some wreath making. Dip the pick and poke it in the wreath. Dip the end of a leaf and add it to a wreath. If you a doing a bunch of something

Jennifer, you are such a blessing to the crafting community!
Yay!!! The shoes !!! I love seeing your shoes!!!
Thanks for all you do.
Is the open and set times listed on the glue stick bags?
Suuuuper helpful Thank you. I’m looking to buy my first one so this was great. 👏🏼🧡 I’m only uncertain whether I actually need one 😆 I’m still unsure why it’s necessary or if it’s better than other string (cold) glues. Also, which are the best non-drippy, non-stringy glues. Or is that a gun issue?

you use hot glue in different applications than wet glue so it's helpful to have both🥰
My favorite crafts. Are large signs and paper shadow boxes or pictures.
Finger protectors are amazing!

Hi Jennifer, thanks for this tutorial on Hot Glue Guns. My question is should you have a separate designated glue guns if you want to use colored glue or other specialty glues?
@JenniferMaker
Жыл бұрын
I suppose you could but once the glue is gone it shouldn't affect the other glue that is put in it.
What’s your opinion of surebond glue guns
It would be great to have a video on different glue and how to use them
Well thanks to Jennifer, Dollar Tree shouldn't be going out of business anytime soon! 😂
