Hot Doe in January? Deer Everywhere | Late Season Bowhunting | Day 5

Hot Doe in January? Deer Everywhere | Late Season Bowhunting | Day 5
Back in the same stand as the previous night, conditions are great for a late season bowhunt. As the deer start to move, I hear things breaking loose a hundred yards away. I spot my target buck moving through the trees running other bucks away from what I think is a potential hot doe.

    I also had similar action here in SE Ohio. Noticed Jan 6th some doe fawns being tended by one of the bucks I was hunting. Heard him grunting and tending morning of January 9th and I killed him Jan 10th but he was alone probably looking for another doe to breed.

    I saw a few hot does that same time in Northern Missouri. The buck:doe ratio is way out if whack where I hunt. I’m guessing it takes a few months for the bucks to breed them. I’ve never seen a mature buck chasing this time of year though. Another great video!

    I've seen it before but definitely not very often. It was cool to see just an increased amount of buck activity too in the area that night presumably because of that doe. Chasing, grunting, sparring, etc

    Unreal how many deer you saw on this hunt. I don't think I see that many deer total the whole year here in Indiana. I like the slow motion footage of the hawk. Very cool.

    Yeah that's not a typical hunt for me but for whatever reason they were stacked up in there this night! And I think that was actually a juvenile eagle. That was one of the cool things about that spot is the eagles were pretty thick in there too, so I got to watch and listen to them almost every night.

    looks like time to shoot some does to better the ratio. here in Michigan its common to see late breeding in January due to late fawns dropped. I've seen fawns with spots on in August here.

  • @jaredmills

    @jaredmills

    Жыл бұрын

    That's kind of what I was thinking but I also wonder if maybe he had something else going on with that side and it grew funky too. It looked like there was a decent amount of kickers at the base of that antler while the other side was pretty clean. It also looked like it grew back and out more so than a normal antler too. Hopefully he sticks around and we can see what he grows next year.

    I’m thinking that goofy buck would have been shot. But that depends on how many buck tags you can have wherever u r. And wow! plenty of does to choose from. We r allowed 4 does and two bucks and one buck mule deer. Deer meat ain’t no problem. Just draw back and let er rip!

    Hey Ken- I won't ever shoot something just to shoot it, or for the show. It's always about the hunt for me. If it wasn't, I'd do things a lot differently for sure. In this case, trying to catch up to a pressured mature deer with a bow from a treestand late season is a great challenge in my opinion. In addition, because some of the better antlered deer on this property are young, it'd be great to take out one of these older deer before going into next season with the hopes of keeping some of the better bucks around. Thanks for watching as always

    Come on Ken, you know Jared better than that!!! The guy had a 180” 8 yr old deer he could have killed 100% with a gun yet he went in with a bow knowing he prolly wouldn’t get a shot at it. Jared has nerves of steel and isn’t afraid to let a deer walk!
