I was refreshed with this drama from all the korean historical drama I've been watching wherein the king always are weak and has to bend over officials and their mothers. The king here brought justice. He knows what to do to gain the goal he wants. He maybe cruel but that's what a ruler in their era is supposed to be. Just minus the fact he chases a girl who doesn't like him and has to force it first

You're right. I also noticed from korean historical dramas that most of the kings doesn't have a real power of their own and always controlled by the powerful ministers, etc. Well, maybe it is from the difference of the countries since China has richer history and naturally more powerful
