I'd definitely recommend a public server tho... non dedicated your tethered to the host so you always have to be really close to each other.. unless your on pc

@@ivzuqii3001 tether in ark is a super annoying setting that non dedicated server have. And what it does is that when you go to far away from the host. You will auto teleport to the host and is doesnt matter if you are in inventory och riding a beasty managarmr you will always teleport to the host if you are to far away from him. And why this hell function is in the game is because all the ark maps is super huge and filled with npc and other stuff and it would be super laggy if the game rendered this with all players. And for the game to optimize it to not crash is shitty tethering.

This has got to be the most unnecessarily long tutorial ever.

My issue with renting a server is that there's no protection for the consumer and you're basically buying it to use your own ram space

If one were to rent a server, does that alone offer you admin controls? My goal is to run my own ark without running the risks of the map resetting. I want It recognized as an official or high player capacity server as well. What are your thoughts?

You can host your own on one system but there are limits. This is due to the hardware capacity on the system.

The barrier on Xbox comes in handy when stealing eggs from wyverns my fri d was the host and I would grab the eggs while at the end of the barrier and then he would fly away on a Dino and I would get dragged and wouldn’t get killed by the wyverns

@@LemursCorner yeah me and my friends have been playing on non-dedicated for years and just starting to look into dedicated so I know lots of hacks like these lol One of my favorites is since the barrier prevents all players from leaving the area around the host when my friends die they respawn on the opposite side of the map (respawn random location in another biome) and this allows them to teleport straight to me (the host) without using beds meaning that the host is the only person who ever has to use a bed. This is great because it means that everyone is just trying frantically to defend the host at all costs because even if they die they just respawn right next to them/their stuff.

DarkEaterMidir64 nah I disagree. Conan is much better gameplay wise, and it looks 50 times better. Ark is boring when it comes to world design too. I wasn’t impressed at all. I played for about a days worth of time and deleted it when I was done. Not a good game.

@@nothingtoseehere9648 yeah in the later game like I'd 70+ (Tek) it takes for ever cuase your constantly grinding for resources and bosses and taming things just to progress. But I do love early game when you fly through wood/stone then get hit with a giant wall once you get deeper into metal.

To play with friends just host a non dedicated and invite them, one problem I had is if the game didn't load right from the beginning I couldn't invite anyone, you have to put in a different game then put in ark so it shows the wildcard screen and whatnot

No, the server exists on your other console, if you turn it off it will not be available and if you delete ark you’ll delete your server.

R6-Shroud _ nope, even if the server data was on a disk the console is what is doing the processing for the server. You can’t run two ark games at the same time on one console, that’s what you what you would have to be able to do, to both host a server and play in it on one console.

Guys just for explaining. You have to have multiple consoles because it’s the only way around a kid going into a public server just spawning whatever he wants using creative and just keeping the other guys from playing the game on that server. Think about it. It works with a pc and Xbox. I run fine

You can't. Only way is if they just kept their console or pc on the entire time while it was running. Or you literally build a server hosting system to host all your servers for different games.

Tethering accually stopped me from enjoying Conan Exiles and why i quit, even tho i loved it. Im trying to find away around this without buying a 2nd ps4 for Ark. Ark is very similar to Conan but is definitely 100% better, theres so many more npcs were in Conan you find a creature every 20 miles LoL

sad to see this game go to waste bc of lazy devs. i just want to play with my friends, but public servers are over populated (or overrun with pillars) so i can’t even build a base & there’s literally not a way to play on my own map without buying another xbox and another game disc. deal breaker.

Setup your own server with cheap PC parts (can do this with $400 or less and is a way better option than using a second xbox), invite your friends. 4. Do the research, find a server already being hosted by someone with rules/mods that you'd enjoy. I play on a server that is PvP (no structure decay) but we all progress together with the story. No raiding or Griefing. You can find something similar regardless of platform. The game is a whole different experience when you stay off official servers.

im on pc using the game pass version, i run a non dedicated server and my friend on xbox cant join, i also cant join his non dedicated server either, we have tried everything- updating games, restarting pc and console, any suggestions

if you join a non-dedicated yes there is a tether (follow the host). If you host a dedicated there is no tether.

It should auto save to your PS4. So what ever system is hosting will hold the save. If you are running Non-dedicated same thing just on the same ps4 you play on (with a tether).

You can play on a dedicated server if you’re hosting it. You’d have to host it on a PC, and then hop on your Xbox and join it. So which ever system is hosting the server, can’t play

I have the epic games ark but whenever I search up best ark server hosts, all of them are only compatible with steam. Is it possible to use steam compatible server hosts for epic games?

Without buying 2 consoles is there anyway me and my friend can have a private session that anyone can join anytime?

That's the tether on console it's only unfixable if you go to dedicated servers.

it just says joining failed connection timed out.

Mabe its how expensive computer hardware is idk, but most people nowadays around where i live cant even afford a better PC than even the specs of a ps4 Pro, 8 core cpu, M.board, psu, hdd, 8gb ram (aprox 4 system memory & 4 gpu), case, BR drive, (controller counts) this would average a $1200 or more PC. 15-20 years ago i knew lots of people with gaming PCs, but anymore i dont know anyone that has invested even close to $1k into a computer, and mabe afew that even have a PC and i have lived around this area since the early 1980s. Everyone buys consols anymore because how much it takes to build a decent gaming PC. Even myself i have a 8 core 3.6ghz cpu, 24gbs ddr4 memory, 890 watt psu, msi MB, then theres case and BR burner wii fii usb stick extra cooling fans, but my GtX 1060 Ti was over $500. My system cost about $1600 and it barely can achieve decent 2160p gaming in high settings at about 50 fps, on Ultra it drops alot at about 30 fps, but high still looks very good. Ontario computer prices are so expensive people are resorting to gaming on consols more than PCs,its a shame. Consols are alot closer to PC power than ever before though compared to how ahead PCs were in the late 90s to early 2000s , in 2014 a ps4 specs were very good, and with the Pro in 2016 it was way beyond a budget computer. Budget Pc in Florda would be a GtX 1050 but in Ontario it would have been a gtx 750. In early 2020 our budget gpus are gddr5 Gt 1030s or possibly a non ti 1050, gtx 1070s are $1000 Gpus and GtX 1080s are $1200 that alot of money, remember our Taxes are insain. We get all the top end gpu available anywhere else there just crazy expensive. Next gen with Ps5 lol a PC with those specs would be $2000 lol, and thats why no one games on PCs and consols are the top seller for gaming anymore. I play my Ps4 Pro more than my PC also after being a hardcore PC gamer 20 years.

With the second pc to run the server do I have to launch windows and basically run ark on it ???

On a PC you can technically host and play from the same system if the system can handle it. Through Steam Command

I would play on a PVE server but people continue to build walls around my home im building and I can't get out. Happened on many different servers.

You can only transfer characters to attached maps. So you can not transfer from official to non-dedicated or dedicated servers. Or the other way. The only ways to transfer are from dedicated clusters or official to official.

Try bringing your character to an obelisk. I’ve been playing for a month now so I’m still pretty new but my buddies and I found one and it had an option to upload character data. When you go to join a new map, there should be an option to download character and it should be there.

How to you get past the black screen with all the admin stuff?

So I recently got ark I’m haven’t started yet but I’m going to play single player when I am done with the game and do something else for awhile how to get back into my single player game without starting a new game on accident?

Just click on the same map that you played on in the menu, and make sure you don’t click on the folder icon to the left of the map because you will delete it, hopes this clarifies your question p.s. after not playing for about a year my worlds haven’t been deleted yet so you shouldn’t run into any problems.
