About this video:
This week I hosted my local garden club for a garden tour of my garden. While I do garden tours all the time here on KZread, it was alot of fun to get to show my garden to people in person, and to talk and answer questions about my plants. I had a wonderful evening with my guests. Hope you enjoy this video, and that you are all enjoying your summer garden. Thanks for watching - Steph (Gardening in Massachusetts zone 6b). #gardening #gardentour #plants

    Ok there are so many things!! 1) YOUR DRESS!!I have a dress this color similar style and I love it and It looks so BEAUTIFUL on you!!! YAY FOR GREEN DRESSES! 2) When you purchased all of the orange family flowers earlier this season I thought “Oh no”. I was completely wrong because they all ( containers)have such unique charm and are so pretty. 3)So much diversity! You both have done an amazing job to create interesting colorful diverse gardens! You both should feel so accomplished and proud of this creation! THANK YOU what a wonderful way to spend a Friday night!!!

    Hi Steph! Perfect color dress to wear for a garden tour😊. You’re doing a great job with layering, textures and colors in your garden. Laura at Garden Zander spoke about the redbud recently. I purchased the pinky winky hydrangea last yr. It’s small and the deer keep munching on it. 😅

    Hi Steph - you and your garden look so gorgeous. Boy can I relate to the redbud struggles!! My arborist calls them “Deadbuds” here on Cape Cod because the winds cause them to break so easily. I have had better success by pruning them back quite a bit and not letting those branches arch out a lot. I have also learned to plant them in a more sheltered spot and that seems to do the trick from me. You really have developed such a layered, beautiful foliage garden. Love your videos. ❤❤

    If your blue suede shoes salvia is getting too big, id take a few stem cuttings and propagate them in a terracotta pot. Also your hyssop has the same square stem, so cuttings would be easy to propagate too. Anything that is flourishing and has lovely blue and chartreuse colours, would be worth planting in other gardens on your property. Looking fantastic!!! Great night for a garden tour, Jo😊

    Garden tours are the bomb aren't they?! I just had a garden tour this past Tuesday which was themed Chaos in the Garden. Of course there was food and a raffle and lots of chairs so people were able to sit around and just enjoy the surroundings. I had between 45 and 50 people attend. It was quite the experience. I felt like I was at my own wedding. So check this out, I did the DIY fountain and the pump that I ordered which was the same one that you were using was not strong enough and the fittings did not fit on the tubing. So I ended up sending that back to Amazon and I got another one but I didn't know that I had ordered two of them so my sweetie and I put one together and it's great and for the other one I just brought home the materials to make the second one. Who knows where that one is going to go! So many possibilities

    Your gardens are lovely. Thank you for the tour. I can't believe you have dahlias and snapdragons in the same bouquet! BTW, the feverfew I planted last year came back gangbusters this year and bloomed earlier than the new seedlings I planted in the spring. Hoping for the same next year, such a great filler plant. I thought it was an annual, but apparently a perennial. Zone 7a, NJ.

    Coneflowers have been a real challenge for us here - believe it or not - in our small patch of New England Rabbits can eat them down to the ground - head clipping weevils can take out flowers - and in rainy years, botyritis can be an issue.. What is working for us - the native species like pallida angustifolia purpurea etc and nativars recommended by Mt Cuba - leaner soil and/or leaf litter mulch

  • @HookedandRooted

    @HookedandRooted

    Hi Emma! I hear that from many gardeners. I have to say we have lots of bunnies this year, and I also found some buds on the ground. I try to spray repellent regularly but I sometimes don't get to it on time if its rained etc. I agree the native varieties are a great option and a bit stronger. I have many coneflowers planted in a bed that stays pretty moist, and they are supposed to like a dryer well draining soil. I have lost some of the cultivated varieties due to this but the purpurea comes up each year (so far!). I'm looking for a variety called pretty parasols, but pallida is also a very pretty option. I like the delicate look of the downward facing petals. Thank you so much for your comment 🌱
