    The great thing about Hosmer's heads up base running is aside from the play at home, he realized that nobody was holding him on at third once Wright fielded the ball. Gave him plenty of room to make a dash for it

    Something very symbolic about the fact that Sal Perez was up last year and they were 90 feet short...and this year, the Royals just decided to take that 90 feet. Relentless. I'm an A's fan, but we were the first team to see how strong their will to win was...and only Madison Bumgarner's immortal Gm 7 performance prevented back to back championships and perhaps talk of a Royal dynasty instead. Well done, well earned...just try not to get your blood sugar up eating all that BBQ sauce celebrating K.C.!

    I like how everyone is blaming Duda but all of this was on Wright. All Wright did was look at Hosmer instead of getting proper footing for a throw home so Hosmer knew he wouldn't be able to make a throw home so he took off for home. Duda wouldn't have time to get proper footing so he threw anyway and missed.

  • @hagamapama

    @hagamapama

    Goes a bit beyond that. That wasn't Wright's ball in the first place, it was the shortstop's. Wright's place on that play was holding Hosmer at third. If Hosmer tried that stunt and Wright is where he is SUPPOSED to be, that's a rundown and an easy out.

    I was born in '85 but I'm glad as an adult I witnessed a Royals World Series victory. So many times they could've lost and somehow found a way to win. Even losing the year before was exciting when they swept Angels and Orioles- most of those games came down to the end and before that needing a crazy win vs As. Then in '15 the way they won vs Astros almost eliminated. The exciting win to clinch vs Blue Jays. And then Royals won 4-1 over Mets but needed to tie in 9th inning in 2 of those and another win was close too. Just amazing all that happened. A treasure to remember.

The Pistons were douchebags on the court, and let the Celtics and Lakers know it with over the top fouls, intimidating techniques, etc. I would think there is much more stronger hate towards the Pistons, who basically were a dirty team, as opposed to the Royals, who were clean much of the season, despite a few early season scuffles with a immature Ventura, and the media fueling this whole "bad guy" image every time they could, which was pure nonsense. For the record, Ventura really turned the page in the second half, and grew up a little, and helped us go forward.

    Four different mistakes by the Mets infield there. Wright should not have charged the ball If Wright is at third when the ball gets to the shortstop, Hosmer can be put in a rundown. Look at the play, Hosmer's more than a quarter of the way home before Wright even gets to the ball -- with a defender at third and the ball basically right at the shortstop, there's no way Hosmer's that far off the base and no way he can pull this off. The Shorstop should have come in on the ball, Wright moved because the shortstop was playing the grounder too casually with less than 2 outs and a runner at third in a 1 run game. Alternatively the shortstop should have called Wright off if he felt he was playing it right. If he calls the ball and Wright stays at third, Hosmer can be put in a rundown. The throw to first was also a mistake. Concede first base if necessary in a 1 run game in the World Series with less than 2 outs in the 9th and a runner at third base. Getting the out is not as important as not letting the run score. Letting the batter take first on the fielder's choice would have been a very conservative play but definitely would have been the lesser of two evils since throwing to first created the opening Hosmer exploited. Not having a defender manning third base made the decision easier for Hosmer, and allowed him to take a very aggressive lead, but they could have still caught him in a rundown if Wright goes home, and the shortstop rushes to third base. And of course, Duda needed to set his feet before making his throw, he mad an off balance throw which is why it went so wild.

    The Mets lost their perfect style of play so much in the World Series that even if they had forced Game 6 it likely would have changed nothing in the scheme of things.

    Think about what was riding on that - had Hosmer gotten thrown out at the plate it would have been the final out of the game, would have cut the Royals' series lead to 3-2 and ending a game on a play like that would have given the Mets all the momentum to carry into the final two games back in KC. They would still have been the underdog but they sure would have had a good chance.

    +Meek Jahye Wrong. They were one out from losing the game and he knew his run home was their best chance, particularly because the Royals' scouting report had said the Mets' first baseman tended to be inaccurate if rushed into a throw to home plate. Look it up - it was in Hosmer's post-game interview.Sure, it was a gamble, but he only had to beat the 2 in 3 odds (or higher) that the next guy would strike out.

  • @jtrevor99

    @jtrevor99

    +Meek Jahye You just called a professional scout who does this for a living stupid as well. You also called the Mets' first baseman worse than the worst first baseman in sports. The scouting report, and hundreds of hours of film, said that he only hit his target around 55% of the time when rushed into a throw to home plate. And you know what? 55% is less than 67%. Go listen if you don't believe me. Or consider that you didn't think about the important fact that this is in RUSHED situations. Of course any first baseman would make that throw 95% of the time when not rushed.But go ahead, call me stupid. Call the professionals who get paid thousands of dollars to do this for a living stupid. Call everyone who disagrees with you stupid. You MUST know better than both the empirical facts and the guys who get paid for this.I will give you this much, though...your misplaced narcissism and self confidence were pretty cute.

    +Meek Jahye The Royals were up 3-1 in the series. It wasa risk worth taking. And I also heard Hosmer mention when talking to the MLB post game crew about the Mets problems with throwing errors.

  • @franko8858

    @franko8858

    +Meek Jahye Disagree. There were so many variables in that sequence that you didn't get. First, Hosmer is getting a fairly big lead, second, after initially "checking" the runner, Wright throws to first, but Hosmer breaks immediately. However, I don't think that the Mets actually banked on Hosmer taking this chance and trying to take home after the throw. It was an element of surprise, which would have to do a lot with the wild throw from Duda. Thirdly, they had done their scouting report on Duda: this was a risk worth taking, and they were up 3-1 in the World Series. For you to call this play "moronic" is moronic.

    Extremely poor base running decision! Sure hindsight is 20/20 but pause the video when the ball is about even with the catchers glove. Look how far the runner is from home! Absolute minimum 10 feet away, probably closer to 15. And with 2 outs! Imagine losing the game on that play? Series shifter? Unlikely. But not a positive way to end a game. The only explanation I can think of is Duda crumbled under pressure. It’s inexcusable to miss that badly from only 90 feet ( actually a little less since he stepped into it). But hey, sometimes the worst gambles pay off the most.

    Well, that's dumb. 1) There was no one protecting the bag at third base, so Wright had no play there. 2) Hosmer did not release for home until AFTER wright threw to Duda. 3) That was no accident. Thanks to the Royals scouting report on Duda, Hosmer knew that he has a suspect arm. Before the game ever started, the Royals had decided that if they had the opportunity, they were going to put Duda's arm to the test. The Mets made two mistakes on this play, one mental, one physical. First, Wright should have let the short stop field the ball. That would have left Wright free to protect third base and deny Hosmer the big lead. That's the first mistake. The second, obviously, was Duda's bad throw. Take away either of those and Hosmer doesn't score.
