HOS: 30-minute Rest Break

This video is the first in a short series of four covering the new HOS changes that go into effect on September 29.
We encourage you to use this for educating your teams - drivers, safety, and dispatch.
We start with the 30-minute rest break. Look for follow-up videos on changes pertaining to sleeper berth, adverse driving conditions, and short-haul.

If I'm on on duty yard move, (which allows the truck to move without recording drive time), can 30 minutes or more constitute a 30 min break? ( I have keep trucking)

I have a question that I have not seen the answer for. If I "drive" two hours and take my break do I have eight more hours of "drive time" before I have to take another break?

Yes. Requires a 30-minute break after 8 hours of driving time (instead of on-duty time) and allows an on-duty/not driving period to qualify as the required break. Visit www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hours-of-service to learn more.

It dosnt make sense.i work local.i clock in at 3am inspect the truck and go. From orlando fl to miami, wich is a 4 hour trip.get there untarp and unload and come back to the company.load again for the next day. So going to miami and coming back its 7 hour drive time. And reloading and tarping again for the next day thats the 8 total hours full day for me dosnt make sense to get my break time when i am done working and ready to go home, what the hell its that? If onky by goiing to miami and untarp all the load and roll back the tarp.iam exosted.tired. and need the 30 min break. Not when i am done. Who ever invented this.its on a favor of the companys.and if dosnt change ill better get back to the fork lift job that i will be able to work 4 hours and get 30 min break ans finish my day with last 4 hours.
