In this episode, we travel in our converted Ford transit campervan, with our dog, to Horsham Victoria, Australia. We camped at Horsham Riverside Caravan Park Victoria, which I show you around in this episode.
Below lists the places we visited in this episode.
Horsham Riverside Caravan
The Giant Koala
Horsham Regional Art Gallery
Horsham Botanic Gardens
Silo Art
Myth Making exhibition
Horsham is the largest city in the Wimmera wheat growing and sheep grazing district in western Victoria. It is located between Stawell and Dimboola, on the main highway linking Melbourne and Adelaide. Horsham features a large commercial centre that lines much of Firebrace Street and extends into adjoining streets. Located within the town centre are a number of cultural attractions including the Horsham Art Gallery which specialises in Australian photography, and several performing arts venues.
There are several attractive parks and gardens in Horsham such as the Horsham Botanic Gardens, towards the southern end of Firebrace The Botanic Gardens, were established in 1873 and occupy a 16-hectare site along the northern side of the Wimmera River and consist of formal gardens, wetlands, shaded lawns, woodlands, a lake and recreational facilities.
Surrounding Horsham are vast wheat fields, pastoral land, and colourful fields of wildflowers. To the south-east, along the Western Highway, are the Wimmera Lakes which form part of the Wimmera-Mallee irrigation system. Green Lake, on the southern side of the highway, has a picnic area overlooking the lake and includes a boat ramp, jetty and swimming beach. Taylors Lake, a few kilometres north of the highway, is a recreational lake suitable for fishing, boating and swimming.
Horsham is a handy base to explore the region's nearby natural attractions. The northern extremity of the Grampians National Park is located 25 kilometres south-east of Horsham, while the the Little Desert National Park can be accessed via a number of small towns to the west and north-west. Mount Arapiles, less than 35 kilometres west of Horsham via Natimuk, is widely regarded as one of the top rock-climbing areas in Australia and is also a great location for bushwalking and camping.
Horsham Riverside Caravan Park
Horsham Riverside Caravan Park has a wonderful mix of outdoor activities in a range of wide open spaces. With cultural, recreational and leisure activities close to town, they’re perfectly situated to offer quality family accommodation at affordable rates in the Horsham area. They are per friendly too!
We also visit the Giant Koala, which is situated midway between Stawell and Horsham. The Giant Koala is one of Australia’s iconic “Big Things”. You can take a break, and stop for a snack or meal at the restaurant. There is a large range of savouries and gifts inside the Koala.
We hope you enjoy our channel. We enjoy part-time van-life, creating weekly episodes that are live at 5pm (AEST) Sundays, and sharing our experiences on our travels with our cavoodle, Twyla. The big Koala looks like a Big Dropbear especially if it has glowing red eyes. The silo art look really good, great to get tourists to visit the towns. Is there any advice for a solo female caravaner? Did you find that post about the Max trax in community section? I got them from Ebay 121cm length 34cm width. Capacity 10ton. If you use the Ebay discount they are $65.00. Red 10T Recovery Tracks 4WD Off Road 4x4 Sand Snow Track 10Tons Max Loading

Hi Michelle, We're loving the silo art too, it's great for small towns. Adam did read bout the max tracks, thanks for posting that info for us. Re safety, if you're free camping, make sure that there's no alcohol bottles strewn over the place - that may indicate that locals visit regular for late drinks... also a pair of boots left outside your door hints that a guy is with you too. Also, if possible, have your car facing the exit when parked so you can leave easier if possible (and maybe hitched up overnight). Deano

I will not be going to Horsham in the foreseeable future. Thankfully there are enough alternatives that are dog friendly. 😟

Hi David, fair call. We were annoyed that Twyla couldn't enter the Gardens. Not sure if you're aware we do have many episodes that show dog-friendly locations around Australia. Adam
