Have to come back and say, Meg ponies are always so well turned out. I always think their manes look super nice, even though they might be funky in the trimming proccess 😆 They always are finished beautifully!

Seriously, though, he's looking much tidier! It can be a bit of a learning curve for babies when they have to learn about visiting the barber, but he seems pretty tolerant of the whole process. And I'll be the first to admit that I've given way more than my share of sketchy trim jobs to horses who deserved much better. If I'm laughing, it's definitely out of empathy!

From below the ears toward the whithers! Follow the shape of the neck. Proportion is everything. Reversing you cutting direction will really help. Also will keep Hobbit from swatting you.!

Omg lol I was always taught you should neverrrrrr cut a mane, but rather, to pull the mane so it doesn’t poof out/lay thick and I never fully knew what that meant. Now I do and I don’t understand why they didn’t do the whole cute & rake technique! It looks so much faster and efficient!

Have you ever tried a solo comb? You’ve done a better job than I’ve ever managed with scissors (😂) but I find it actually gives a really accurate pulled look without having to actually pull. Could make your makeover videos less stressful for all involved 😂💀

I must say that I like his mane shorter as it makes his neck appear longer and slimmer. I personally like a clean (clipped) horse. The tufts on his ears need a little trim as well. The after makes him look more grown up and handsome. I agree with your Mom as well in that just maybe you might need someone to help you getting a nice straight line on his mane. Overall good first trim!!!

Meg get a hairdressing scissors set you get a thinning pair in the set too, hair always takes couple of days to settle after a cut

I always use scissors to meg but I would definitely recommend when you start cutting start near their ears rather than withers and keep their head up then follow the shape of their neck a bit more it helps avoiding going to short at the withers

I always cut the horse mane as well. What I do is use the comb to hold a section of the hair and cut it with the scissors upright. (Vertical) so you dont get one harsh line and gives it a pulled look without pulling the mane. Also I have a little comb with a knife between it where you can comb and cut the hair at the same time. (Mane thinning knife)

Flip over to the opposite side of the neck , cut, flip back over and point cut……poor innocent Ari 🤣

You two are so funny! You know hair grows back right? And it's not like he's getting ready for a show. One trick I use when needed is to comb a section of the cut hair with a section of the new hair to make sure my length is the same. My horse has a thin mane so I can't pull all of it to length.

The only horse I've ever given makeovers was a warmblood. My then-trainer thought that a Landgraf I-grandson was a cold-blooded trotter, because of his long mane, so I needed to do something about that. 😭😭😭

That was a wonderful video of you and Ari taste testing foods. Actually most horses absolutely adore bananas, they just have to get used to them and also they are very good for horses and ponies because they are loaded with potassium. I loved the way he tried to share everything with you and tried to have you share with him, he is a sweet boy and I am really going to enjoy seeing you ride him. I can’t wait to see what he looks like after his trim and mane adjustment, I think he will be really beautiful. Jane😍

I liked the rake sound

The horses at my barn all love bananas, but it was an acquired taste for some of them. Also if I'm using scissors to do manes and not pulling, I don't brush it out first. If you trim it then brush it out it has more natural variation to not have the bowl cut look.

I looooooooove cutting manes and tails. Just roach that jazz right off Meg🤣 The Thoroughbred people I work for here in the states cut the tails up shorter so the legs look longer on the 2 and 3 yr olds(I always chop the tails up about 4 inches before winter so my boys don't step on it in the snow and rip it out) You are doing great Meg🤩 That neck Ari! WOW
