Thank you for the lovely explanation of the Percheron and why they make an excellent horse to begin with, their placid intelligent nature makes them very attractive as a horse to own.

I am an inexperienced rider looking to purchase my first horse next year, and I am wanting a draft horse because I’m tall and over 200 lbs, so I believe this would be good for me. Great video

I would ride one before you buy one. They are magnificent horses but the costs will be higher. Big horses should have bigger stalls and will eat more.

I rode a Clydesdale for years. She was smart, fast, nimble, smooth, and her big hooves allowed her to bushwack through snow and swamp. Quite a hothead, though. Fortunately she was small, barely 17 hands.

I'd worry about the stress a purebred heavy horse would put on its joints. Draft crosses have long been favored for fox (or drag) hunts. Most horses can function outside their specialty a bit, but none are universal.

@@sanniepstein4835 The genetics of the specific horse is what I'd worry about. Percherons we're used in war, they are very sturdy animals. No, they won't jump very high but a horse that breaks it's own leg doing a simple, natural maneuver has health issues. It would be like if I blew out a knee walking down the stairs, that just shouldn't happen to a healthy person.
