Horse breed 101 - The Percheron
During the ten days of Calgary Stampede you will encounter a wide variety of horses. Here's a look at one of them. The Percheron is a breed of draft horse that originated in western France. Usually gray or black in color, Percherons are well-muscled and known for their intelligence and willingness to work.

Thank you for the lovely explanation of the Percheron and why they make an excellent horse to begin with, their placid intelligent nature makes them very attractive as a horse to own.
Sweet horses and strong. Beautiful too.

Beautiful guy!!! Love him!!!
Beautiful horses
Just got back into riding...the stables I use has a Percheron and I love that big boy. So much so that I bought a properly sized saddle and a new bridle with his name on it.

What size saddle did you get? And what size Girth or cinch?

@@luredab I got a King draft horse in 15" seat and a 40" girth I believe it was, but now that I'm using latigos on all four corners I'm going to need to shorten it up to get it centered

I bet you really love how you stick out on the trails on him!🤪
Nice! Wish we could get more info of the breed, but still good to know. btw, you need a ladder to ride that horse! :))

I've ridden these before and I've had to climb a fence or use a mini flight of stairs to get on. They are one of my favorites. It's like riding a tank.
I am an inexperienced rider looking to purchase my first horse next year, and I am wanting a draft horse because I’m tall and over 200 lbs, so I believe this would be good for me. Great video

I would ride one before you buy one. They are magnificent horses but the costs will be higher. Big horses should have bigger stalls and will eat more.

I would highly recommend that you take a lot of riding lessons before you even consider getting a horse!
Ooohhh he is just too handsome 🥰
Amazing horses! ermehgerd there are 7 at the barn I work at. I rode them bareback too. almost got kicked though.. :P and really hurt my toes when I jumped off cause it was cold af. :P oh well.
These comments are from Anne!!! What a simply gorgeous gentle giant!!! Would love to be sitting upon his back!!! That would a total gift if I ever could!!!😊
Forgive me for being a breeding heretic...But I wonder if anyone has considered crossbreeding Percherons and Friesians.:DD

Anne Signiski. ❤

lose some weight and any horse can be good with little training

@@SAJ.GAMING hes athletic, that 250lbs is muscle not fat and having that amount of muscle is impressive therefore he should just get a bigger horse.

I rode a Clydesdale for years. She was smart, fast, nimble, smooth, and her big hooves allowed her to bushwack through snow and swamp. Quite a hothead, though. Fortunately she was small, barely 17 hands.

ReddyforLenny lmao you realize that lebron James weight 250lbs and is 6’9 rights xD and he’s huge! There is no way a healthy 5’11 person would weigh 250lbs. I’m not trying to be rude but it’s the truth
Question: Why is his tail and Mane so short?
Is that breed used to as horse meats at 17~18th centuries?
Is the coldblood breed of horse to pulling wagons and farm work
I Like the Old Percheron style 16 to 17 hands 1900 pounds for workings in the fields more traction and power !!!!! Friend mind have crossbreed Canadian ( Morgen ) & Percheron. 16 hands and 1700 pounds looking so good low to the ground Little head big chests and big back muscles.. Just the way i Like !!!!
Rode one in RDR2. Straighten my back up.
Would they be decent at jumping?

I'd worry about the stress a purebred heavy horse would put on its joints. Draft crosses have long been favored for fox (or drag) hunts. Most horses can function outside their specialty a bit, but none are universal.

@@sanniepstein4835 The genetics of the specific horse is what I'd worry about. Percherons we're used in war, they are very sturdy animals. No, they won't jump very high but a horse that breaks it's own leg doing a simple, natural maneuver has health issues. It would be like if I blew out a knee walking down the stairs, that just shouldn't happen to a healthy person.
Can he run fast?
Horse for tall, strong man and woman 💪
His head is as big as the woman wow
Do people still use horses for working? Feel like a tractor would be cheaper and less cruel
