    Children have powerful imaginations, especially in times of trauma. And in this, she was able to conjure up an entity to help her do what she could not do alone. I like the ending, of her leaving and the entity slowly following after, almost as if signifying she will always have that strength with her, whether it be her mother, or something else. Very well done!

    I wouldn't call it strength. More like, she fantasied with a caring mother as a way of dealing with the absence of care and love in her life. However, all the abuse she was suffering created a darkness inside her, and the fantasy of a caring mother couldn't protect her from it, so the mom turned into something ugly and dark to match what was inside the girl, and so, the girl used this to protect herself by killing her aunt. This is not a strength, but rather a display of hurt and conturbed feelings, a darkness that will always follow the girl everywhere she goes.

I harbor such a deep hatred for her but at the same time, I love her as a mother. What she put me through, I will never fully forgive her. It's hard, dealing with someone that you love and hate, it causes me so much internal conflict and that anger has always destroyed me internally. This is what happens to the human mind when it's under extreme mental, physical, and emotional torture. It's opens wide to let darker forces in. The child wanted out of this situation so badly, her subconscious conjured up a demonic energy to allow her to do the dirty work needed to get rid of the abusive aunt. The girl is not evil, but a tortured soul wanting out of a horrible situation. I truly believe evil exists for this reason in the world. To do what purer, more sensitive souls are not capable of....to pull the trigger or swing the axe, when no other way out is possible.

    Bravo to all involved in this project. A very emotionally impactful tale. A friend and I were recently discussing the dearth of horror movies like the ones we grew up with. Supernatural threats were always terrifying when we were younger, but as we grew up, we realized the worst monsters were the ones we, as human beings, were capable of becoming. Or creating. What is truly heart-breaking in regards to this story is the thought that out there, at this moment, there are a lot of "Marian's," and some of them act or react in the same way. Others never make it out of their circumstances. We see that and say it should not be, that we are better. True, but only if we choose to be better, and hold ourselves and others accountable to that better nature. The bright spot is, we can.

    I think I already understand the story. The girl suffered abuse from her aunt because she became alcoholic and drug addicted due to the mother's death, and of course the monster that was there friendly was like the evil that she now imagined and the girl decided to end all this. In addition, when she takes and breaks the photo in the end, it is because the only good person she had was her mother.

    On of the best I've seen on Alter, with a striking (and heart-rending) twist and a pleasingly ambiguous ending that leaves it up to the viewer what is psychological and / or supernatural. Beautifully acted, and effects reminiscent of "Crimson Peak", only perhaps even better for their shadowy vagueness - we can see just enough of the spectre to deduce it is horrible, but never get such a good look that we can't imagine even worse...

    Been a recent fan of Alter and I'm happy to find a Filipino film in their list. The old Filipino home added to the creepy factor, too. Houses like these are so old that you will certainly hear about ghost sightings and scary stories about them from the people living in or near it. Growing up with those stories definitely makes seeing this setting feel very unsettling. Hoping for more shorts like this in the future!

    @@alexxs7evin Yes, this is the traditional houses of Filipinos. especially there's many of this in pre-WW2 Manila if only they didn't get bombed and ruined. many Filipinos associated houses like this of being haunted because of the victorian vibes it shows. but I personally don't see it.

    Abuse is uncalled for. I grew up with a Father who was physically, mentally and emotionally abusive when I was young. Keep abusing your kids or young kids in your family. There will be that situation where the child will have built up so much vent and hatred, they will let it out and with a vengeance. That ugly evil spirit that came out from under the bed and then continued to follow her. That was her RAGE. When it came out from under the bed and came up to her, she was not afraid. She was ready to shake it's hand and not be afraid anymore. She was going to let the RAGE inside of her come to a boiling point. and take revenge. A child who has been abused, can one day retaliate against you, if it comes to their boiling point and therefore work against you. Not every abused child mind you, leads to this. The sad part is, sometimes when retaliation happens, the law may not always protect you sadly. The Aunt was a druggie and had mental health issues, so would she have abused if she was not a druggie with mental health issues? Not saying that she is still not responsible for abusing her niece. Now that the little girl's rage was released and it followed her out the door. Will it continue to follow her and make her act out when things works against her? Abuse can do so much harm mentally and emotionally, those scars are harder to see then the physically ones.

    The fact that the rage monster followed her out the door tells me ... life does not look bright for Marian. Sadly she is SEVERELY DAMAGED GOODS.

  • @demijour1234

    @demijour1234

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@RPRosen-ki2fk I agree the rage followed after her and will be by her side. I don't know if I want to call her severely damaged goods bc I always like to believe therapy can help. Maybe she is still traumatized from her abuse and will not be able to function in society without help. Sadly I knew these 2 kids growing up. The mother abused them physically. mentally and emotionally. Even CAS admitted they should have been more proactive. The mother abused the 2 older kids and adored the 2 younger kids. Later in their adult life the 2 older kids sued the mother and they won the highest ever in damages in Canada. They cannot function in society bc of her. For example, he was may 12, he got lice in his hair. She pour boiling water on his head and had to be taken to ER, and once she pushed him from the basement top of the stairs and broke his legs with a rolling pin. The girl, when she was going through puberty, she used to punch her in her chest and once kept dunking her head upside down while holding her legs and dunking her head in a bucket of water till she kept passing out. That woman was sick. When I saw her and I was with my mom, I pretended not to remember her and told my mom I hope she goes to hell.
