I was expecting a joke game at best but this game is surprisingly scary. The buff doge is pretty standard danger you run away from, but the rooms that keep changing their layout makes you unable to keep a good idea of where you're at. And the monkey...

@@SobaYatai Because those made by big corporations are cliche, which let's them sell the franchising of the game... while indie horror are straight from the mind of the creator, with no expectation of actual income after creation. This was why FNAF 1 and the early FNAF games were good, but eventually got stale. An Indie game by Scott became corporate.

That's the nice thing about text to speech programs is you can keep making more of those.

This game feels like a fever dream, and i mean a bad one at that. The Monkey spouting random bullshit that ocasionally turns disturbing and ominous for no reason at all while following you from room to room even when dead is in itself something i can't explain why i feel so uneasy towards. Buff doge is dangerous, but predictable. He'll find you and run you over, end of story. Monkey however... nobody knows what the monkey will do.

I already lost it right at the beginning with "WHY IS THERE A MONKEY?!"

Fun fact: monkey that follows you from the gifs and stuff is from an actual tv show from Japan called “Ōkiku naru Kobut” that ran from 1959 to 1988 that was also shown in Latin America. But here’s the odd/creepy thing about this: the original Japanese version is considered lost media; meaning that there is no known saved or archived episodes from the Japanese version, but some clips of the Latin American version are still floating around which is where we got the viral gifs of the monkey from. For a meme game, this is surprisingly well done. I was unsettled before the doge even appeared.

"You should go straight." "Straight to Hell apparently." the best part of the video

That effect of getting punched through 4 walls is better than anything I’ve seen in triple A gaming in the past ten years.

"Can you unshoot me please" caught me completely off guard. I love the creators humor

For such a simple concept, it does put me in a sort of unease. The constant moving between doors and corridors without knowing what can be behind it

It's disorientating because of how frequently you move from room to room, the often tiny size means you never see far, and knowing that Big Doge not only can smash through walls and doors, but frequently teleports around, with the monkey often getting in the way while spouting "moral support", yeah it's hard to relax.

7:38 Ive seen this on a myth debunking video actually, when someone's head is decapitated, their neurons dont stop right away, but basically after a few seconds the head is "alive" but more or less brain dead, bc the neurons that process higher thinking (like thought processes) are among the first to die out. So basically the brain STEM might function for up to 20 seconds, but the person wouldn't be AWARE of anything beyond maybe the first 5 seconds or so-beyond that, its essentially just nerves twitching. IDK if Manly will actually see this, but hopefully I can answer the question for SOMEONE at least!

Manly keeping his sanity during this is genuinely amazing

The decapitation thing is actually true, we figured it out during the french revolution when a scientist was guillotined, he set out to keep blinking until he died to figure out how long it took decapitation to kill you, and he did it for around 20 seconds. Like, we obviously did some more studies and whatnot after the fact, to determine more specifics, but mainly on other decapitated animals, since ya know, pretty hard to sew a head back on when it's already dead. So the french revolution test is still our standard awnser. Also I can't believe how fucking scary they made buff doge. Like obviously there's the ambiance and the confusing layout, the unreliable UI, and the fact its voice is never subtitled, but also the fact it can knock you through several walls in a *maze*, that then the walls regenerate is scary in its own right because it's a consequence for failure that isn't just a restart, and in the already disorienting rooms, it's an arguably worse punishment then just starting over.

The toy monkey really makes the game here, its constant presence this combination of annoying and unnerving. It's not the threat, but it almost feels more disturbing than the actual giant doge.

Buff Doge is best doge. The ultimate doge that not only attacks and defends, but definitely gives the best hugs as well. If you count punthing you through walls a hug. Buff Doge is cool. Be like Buff Doge.

You have no idea how tense I was when Manly started shooting at the Doge. It felt like a genuine scene from a horror movie.

I love how the monke takes your focus off of the real threat by being annoying and aggressive. Then he starts to threating you, which makes you think hes the threat. Then he 180 to make a random joke. A very well deigned game with little game play mechanics

I love the harmony between him and the monkey "don't shoot me" - he shoots him "boo" - "stop."

Yo Manly sounded like he genuinely got hit Irl at 10:50 reminded of the times I've winced at the pain when getting slapped in MH.

this sorta feels like an actual fever dream. nothing is laid out in a way that makes sense and all the dialogue is just this jumble of weird sentences the back of your brain might spew out if it was trying to sort through memories under stress. there's just this constant panic with the doge chasing you even though he himself isn't really all that scary.

Out of everything the devs could of added to the series, they decided to add a robotic monkey that follows you around spitting out old memes and sometimes becoming creepy. I wouldn't have had it any other way. Also not sure if anyone already mentioned it, but yes the decapitated head fact is true! A scientist experimented on a death row inmate. Immediately after his head got cut off, the scientist shouted his full name, and he opened his eyes in reaction.

About the head staying conscious, we're still not entirely sure. There is a fleeting amount of EEG activity (they tested rats back in 2011 with an average of 4 seconds EEG activity after decap). But as for actual consciousness, awareness of external thought, we don't know. We only have anecdotes of people *looking* aware

I like the fact that you can "fight back". Never been a huge fan of horror games where you're *completely* defenseless. Like, you can literally come across an object you COULD use for a weapon, but you don't because for some reason your character has no clue how to improvise.

Yknow that one part where Manly responds to "are you terrified" with "mildly" doesnt really seem like much until you realize that Manly at this point has the horror game veteran effect, where it takes a lot more to scare him because hes just played so much of it

"Browser.....History......Delete......" Is the most relatable word for me,that world be my final word too

Not only did we ACTUALLY get a sequel, it feels like a proper one too. New stuff and the game is more polished too. What the heck is this timeline?

I have to admit the game is impressive. With the speed of the room generation and the effect of the walls being put back together.

For anyone who might find this game random; Backrooms can cause you to come across things that are familiar to you and cause a sense of security only to kill you with said thing.

Would have been better to not start with the monkey. Instead you find him in a room and then he follows you. This way you end up hating him more, thinking you might possibly avoid him....but deep down you know you can't....

_"Make it $50"__ The irritating monkey was the real enemy. But MBH's banter with the monkey cracked me up, like at 16:39. I loved the swole doge running and the dialogue. Funny and spoopy! On a side note, there were some studies done about a decapitated head surviving after being guillotined, but what did that mean? Studies on pigs too, and rats showing a slow death wave of electrical activity. So if your brain's neurons are still firing for 4 to 30 seconds afterward, is that biological death or the death of the self? Kinda hard to do research studies on it tho for obvious reasons... And corn cobs would be really scratchy!

I think the rearranging rooms is a really impressive bit of code that adds a lot to an otherwise pretty standard “horror maze.” It’s genuinely like that nightmare you have where a monster is chasing you in a maze that doesn’t inhibit him but you can make any sense of. It’s even more impressive that it takes place out of your sight and you almost never catch it doing so despite it happening clearly one room away. Further still, think about how much this would add to other horror games with maze like sections?

I think the Monkey keeps getting possessed by the Doge, which is why his eyes go white and he gets a lower voice, because when he's normal he actually sometimes tries to help you it seems.

This was surpringly scary! I think it unnerved me so much because it played greatly on the feeling of "uneasiness." I think thats the whole concept of backrooms in a nutshell, when we see pictures of them we get a strong feeling of "wrongness" because of all the empty space. It puts us on edge until we find something 'familiar' again. The monkey's presence and unsettling dialogue really played into that whole "I'm extremely unnerved but I don't know why." It was the little things that did the most I feel. When you're only given tiny pieces of a puzzle it makes your imagination run wild looking for answers. That's my take anyway!

Holy shit this might be the best thing Manly has ever played. The humour and horror are simultaneously PEAK.

I am pretty sure you needed to go through the doors that didn't have the Monkey, seeing as there were hints all over saying "Avoid the Monkey" Monkey_Death and such.

Wow, the animations, the art, the environments, the dialog! C'est Magnifique! 😍 It’s especially terrifying because only the Doge can die. You’re stuck in there with the 20-lines-of-dialog monkey forever.

I think the monkey is a sort of companion that lives in there but has some sort of connection to the doge, like a living puppet agaisnt his will. The red painting saying "don't trust the monkey" is actually the doge making you to kill him since if he's alive he will alert you constantly if he's near, and you can see that because when his eyes turn white it's actually doge talking. Like the monkey wants you to escape but the doge has more power
