I love how you used "Monster Mash" in intro! Brilliant idea! Can't wait to play this game. Who knows, mayby one day it will be finally released in Europe.

right when you mentioned the Invisible Man, I instantly wanted to play as him, and was quite disappointed to learn that we actually battle the monsters, not play as them. Still, looks like a great game, may have to buy this one!

I literally couldn't get the song out of my head when i started writing the review :)

And yes, the intro is a reworking of a very very old song, the Monster Mash. And yes, I am as ancient as the mummy for associating this game with that song.

This reminds me, I used to love the TV show "Monster Squad" when I was a kid. I even owned the board game! boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/11956/monster-squad-game/

Well, the monsters are from "classic" movies, and that song is a classic too (although from a later time period: 1962), so the pairing makes sense.

Monster Mash is 1962, The last classic universal monster film is 1960, so it's like a homage to the end of the era i guess :)

Speaking from experience, this game is fun, great, super tight, and encourages cooperation in the best way. It's a perfect party game.

Great review Jarrod! Thanks for reminding me that I have to give Ghost Stories a try.

Bobby Boris Pickett and the Crypt Kicker Five would have loved that intro!

This is the game that has gotten my girl and I absolutely addicted to horror board games. Heavily debating on whether to get the Aliens board game, or Nemesis.

Fantastic. Its such a good game, and Nemesis is amazing, but expensive. I have the Aliens game, but still have to assemble the models

@@3MBG Quite expensive, but seems like so much fun. Failed at trying to find the Zombicide core set as well lol, which is also expensive. I saw the whole model assembly deal while checking out the review for Aliens, are they something that requires glue, or are they snap pieces?

Ha, it's all good. Simple and easy get mixed up all the time. Chess in a way is "simple" when you think about it.

No, and i plan not to sorry. In general I'll only be covering CMONs smaller box games like Potion Explosion as I don't do kickstarter previews and they are really only interested in that.

I wonder why there's like 8 characters to choose from but you can only have five, Unfathomable and Pandemic also do something like that

The simple reason is pacing. 8 characters in horrified, the board would have moved on so much between each players turn that it would be hard to actually make plans that work.

I liked the Monster Mashup intro. And now you can try A L I E N Fate of the Nostromo similar at face value but different in play.

I've been keen to get Alien as its one of my fav series of films, saying the gameplay compares to this is a plus too

@@3MBG I'd recommend it then. you can watch a how to play or gameplay and BGG reviews. but it's only $30 or less. Edit: note there's no character deaths either you all win or lose but that's not a big deal especially if you use the self-destruct tracker for the final mission. there's a lot of variants on BGG.

Ill probably just find the rulebook online, that always works best for me. I can scan the game in a few minutes and not have to listen to someone slowly explain everything. I sometimes wish there were 10 other mes reviewing the games i don't so i could use my own service.

Love the game. Have played solo only, with 2 monsters n 3 heroes. BARELY won 3, n lost once big-time. Gonna up the odds 3 on 3.....poor humans.....

3 on 3 was the standard game I was playing. My best result was winning with 7 turns to spare, so its doabale.

@@3MBG the one thing I ran into one Hero had both the soul and the hunted emblems and Both wolfman and Mummy were in the same space. Same space. got to go toward the mummy but wolfie is there and I need to go away from it. Two monsters same space! Three options possible: hero moves half of required spaces towards them to reflect two spells conflicting, hero stays still in place until a monster or hero destroyed, or hero just drops dead and hope monsters get separated by time he gets out of hospital. Too much fun.

How is Horrified compared to Pandemic in terms of strategic-ness? In Pandemic you need long-term planning. Does this game require long-term planning?

Very similar, probably more so as you have clearer and more obvious long term goals in solving the weaknesses

It has a very clever difficulty adjustment. 2 monster is easy, anyone who's played pandemic should win that no sweat. 3 monsters is about normal pandemic, perhaps a little harder, but about that level. 4 monster is really really tough, approaching ghost stories levels of tough

Matt Crawley if it's too much money to get licensing, than they can create their own cool terrifying monsters and backstories. The old school universal monsters are not intriguing anymore. I know lovecraft horrified would be an easy choice and I can't get enough lovecraft but there a lot of lovecraft themed games already. Would I get lovecraft horrified? Yes.

bought it, found it way, WAY to simple in its mechanics, sold it. A good game for kids, but not for me.

I definitely recommend ghost stories then. For me, this is about the same level as pandemic, and that's sold a container ship or two worth of games.

How is it any simpler than the Forbidden Island/Desert/Sky games or Pandemic? Seems like it's exactly the sort of family level game you find in Target (where I saw a copy) as opposed to your FLGS (where games you and I might prefer). That's where it is marketed toward. (BTW, I think it's a bad idea to only have heavier games. They make for an intimidating introduction to the hobby. I love and own Spirit Island, but I'm not introducing it to casuals. Horrified might replace something like Forbidden Island for me - if I owned it that is.)
